Glee Episode V: The Sylvester Strikes Back - - Part 11

This past episode had the best music all season.

I'm inclined to agree. I thought the Hot in Herre/Centerfold mash-up would be total ****, but I quite liked it.

The Hot In Herre reminded me of season 1.

And I miss half the glee kids having other things/groups to do besides Glee. I miss seeing the guys with the football group and coaches and the Brittany and cheerios actually doing something cheerio related with Sue instead of just being used as back up dancers for the guys.

Same. It really reminded me that not only has the storytelling fallen off over the years, but so has the music. Now it just kinda lacks the magic it had back in the early days.

3 of the songs from Diva are out, Brittanys "Dancing On My Own" got cut from the episode.

Yea, at least in a few episodes of S2 Beiste had legitimate storylines. Now she just randomly walks on to dispense advice.

That's how every adult's gotten though. Will is barely around anymore, and Emma is just there for an occasional "guidance counselor" scene, and Sue is just an ineffectual pest who makes her obligatory "insert string of insults here" walk-on every other episode or so, then walks back out.

It's really sad how far Sue has fallen. In S1 she felt like an actual powerful presence and a formidable nemesis. Now she's a side nuisance who's barely relevant, and it feels like they just obligatorily trot her out every couple episodes for a scene or two to drop some patented Sue insults, and then she disappears again, because they have nothing else to do with her.

It just used to feel like Glee had a larger "universe", and now it's like we only focus on glee club (or NYADA), when we could have storylines involving the Cheerios, the football team, etc., like we used to.

So sad and so many missed storyline opportunities. I hate how they never showed the Cheerios at Nationals and Sue using the UT to gain an edge over the competition by using their voices as well.

Songs are out for Diva, Santana slayed every song as usual.

Is it just me, or does Chord Overstreet seem more enthusiastic since his return than he did in Season 2?

I just think he tried playing Sam more seriously in Season 2. Now he just gets to play dumb so he can have more fun with the role.

Dianna just isnt having it anymore. You can tell she is so bored of what they have done with Quinn she isnt even trying.

Probably valid.

Look at how straight (no pun intended) Blaine started out in Season 2.

I definitely get the impression Darren is enjoying getting to be a big ole' campfest half the time these days (unsurprising considering he's a walking ball of flame IRL), but to be honest sometimes I miss the more subdued Blaine.

I ALWAYS miss subdued Blaine. It is fine to let him let loose time from time but S3+ I just aint here for that Blaine. The character has lost all its charm. And Blaine just seems ridiculous in the Diva number. The writers are trying to craft him into Kurt 2.0.

I think Matthew Morrison is officially just sick to death of playing Will Schuester, and honestly who can blame him?

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Jane Lynch is pretty bored with Sue anymore, and who could blame her either.

Blaine was really fun IMO when he got hammered at Rachel's party in Season 2, but that worked because it was one scene in one episode and it was just amusing to see someone so ridiculously perfectly put together get his slickered hair sticking up all over the place and bouncing up and down.

Darren!Blaine is best in small doses.

And yea, Blaine in the Diva number just doesn't work. It worked with Kurt because Kurt was established as being that way from the beginning. Blaine started out as a straight-acting gay man or at the very least nowhere near as campy and flamboyant as Kurt (ironically played by a straight man who is far more campy and flamboyant and stereotypically "gay" than Blaine was originally), but now they're trying to shove him into the Kurt 2.0 slot, and he just doesn't fit it.

Not to mention that since they decieded Blaine would be younger they changed his dynamic with Kurt, which is why I just dont enjoy them anymore. Blaine playing the needy jealous type just doesnt do it for me and I cant imagine how worse it will get when he goes to NY next year.

And I have never understood why they never really bothered to give Sue her own competition besides Coach Roz. There has to be a cheer coach out there who is tired of always coming in 2nd place to Sue and her team.

At first I thought they did that to keep Darren around longer, but since Lea and Colfer are still fulltime regulars, it wasn't necessary.

I guess they wanted someone with a big fanbase on the McKinley side, but I agree, it was Glee at its most contrived.

I liked to imagine there was gonna be some running plotline about Kurt and Blaine growing as individuals during their separation, with Kurt learning to be less self-absorbed and Blaine learning to live for himself instead of making his existence revolve around Kurt, so they could reunite as a more balanced relationship and stronger more mature individuals, but since they're making out in a car the episode after next and singing Come What May the episode after that, it doesn't seem like we're getting it.

And we will probably have Blaine just be weepy about his love for Kurt and how much he misses him. Which is why I want them to move on from each other for a while.

As much as it'd be healthy for Blaine to learn to be an individual instead of half of Klaine, I'd also have liked for St. Hummel to realize he isn't World's Greatest Boyfriend either.

But so far no sign of that.

Who was supposed to join forces with Sue and topple Figgins this season before she disappeared, never to be seen or mentioned again.

You can thank The New Normal for that.

Glee sucks at setting things up and following through with them.

Just like I dont get why Sam never rejoined the football team this season. He liked football and being popular. Plus they couldve used him to bring in Ryder instead off Finn.

And I wont be surprised if they get rid of the ND part of the show and deciede to just focus on NY since Marley and co. just arent strong enough to carry that part of the show imo.

Plus they are talking about going on tour again this summer....which I was all ready to go to a Glee concert last year since I missed the first one, but I would not want to waste my money standing around hearing the newbies sing for majoirty of the time.

You can thank The New Normal for that.

Which they dont even use her that much in. The most she has had to do has been in the last two episodes. I am guessing RM just doesnt want to "overwork" NeNe.

Because Finn has replaced Will as our Fearless Leader who is the only one who can accomplish anything.

I agree. They're adequate at best as supporting characters. I don't think of them as lead characters at all.

I think them steering away from McKinley would probably be the best thing for this show since it would take the writers out of their comfort zone somewhat since they wouldnt be able to rely on reusing so many storylines. Election/Sectionals/Regionals/Prom/Regionals/Graduation/School Musical get old. And that is at least 7 episodes we get that can be dedicated to something new.

As a Finn fan I consider that a step up from the feel sorry for himself all the time Finn of season 3 and early season 4. Finn, imo, has benefited from being ND's coach. At this point I wouldn't care if Will never came back.
