Gotham Gotham Season 5 Episode 12 - "The Beginning..." [Series Finale]

With Gotham over, can we now bring young Bruce and Selina over for the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover?

It wasn't even David in the suit. It was just his face CGI'd onto the other actor.

That is why I didn't care that much for the finale, knowing that Camren would be recast and David's chin would be all we could see of him. David is the best Bruce Wayne I've seen, and when it was leaked that we would not see Bruce and just Batman's shadow, I didn't look forward to the finale that much.

That being said I think there are some highlights of the episode though, namely Selina/ Bruce and Selina and Alfred's interaction (though unfortunately they aren't portrayed by the original actors), as well as Oswald and Ed.

With Gotham over, can we now bring young Bruce and Selina over for the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover?

That question would generate more discussion in the Crisis on Earths thread perhaps?

Well that was awful, its kinda funny that they topped Bane's bad look with Joker's worse look and they topped THAT with Batman's ugly look. So in a way kudos.

I respect Camren for stepping aside and letting an older actress in. The same should have happened with Batman. As horrid as that costume was, it could have been better if they hadn't CGI'D the scrawny face of a teen on a man. I honestly dont care about staying loyal to the actor, these characters are bigger than the actors and neither Camren nor David even signed up to play either Batman or Catwoman in the first place.

Joker was godawaful and unneeded, not just in this episode but the entire season. Everything about the character was anti- climatic.

Most importantly they shouldn't have bothered, this episode should have been set in the present.

Also shaving Gordon with in 10 minutes was the biggest eff you I've ever seen.

Lili Simmons was literally the only good thing about this episode.

Well, that was... quite dreadful.

That batsuit just about sums up the finale, and possibly the entire series.

To think that a regular fan can make a cosplay suit look like this.

134485-gadgets-news-this-is-the-best-batman-cosplay-suit-ever-and-it-was-3d-printed-to-boot-image2-QxskVN0dvY.jpg

And yet the producers, with the finances provided by a major studio can't make suit even half as good as the one above.

It’s just ****ing embarrassing, isn’t it? Easily - EASILY - the worst batsuit ever committed to screen. He looked like someone who got lost on the way to Comic-Con, and ended up on the edge of a building, looking a bit constipated. The hockey pads guy in The Dark Knight genuinely had a better suit.

...and to that one dude who always gets all riled up when I come in here and insult this crappy little show... don’t worry dude, this will be the last thing I ever comment about Gotham. It’s consigned to the dustbin now. We can all happily move on.

They shouldn't have shown the suit. They had a good thing going by hiding it. The payoff wasn't worth it.

...what one dude? Haven't seen any remarks in this thread about you specifically yet. Are you just yelling into the ether?

I agree with this absolutly.
The final shot sums up the series pretty good.
A shadow of what could have been but never really arrived there.

The episode itself was for gotham standards fine.
A bit lost and no real focus, but here and there not the worst.
Its again what the show always did, showing potential but missing the mark by a mile.

I said it before, the actors overall would be okay, a bit more Faithful to the canon and we really could have had a decent enough show, i believe that.
Hell even that joker would have had potential if they would have been allowed to go full out and if they would have had done it properly.
The shows huge failure was when they early on decided to show the rogues gallery ten years too early.
Keeping the show focused on the ground level and show how and why gotham needs batman down the line, that would have been better.

I did like a few parts there to be honest, but overall the final episode was like the whole show...bad.

And again, the final shot was at the same time nice and as awful as you can be.
Until the moment they showed batman from the front, it looked fine.
The suit and how they managed Batman was not bad...but god damn that suit.
Not having a adult actor in the suit fully with an adult face etc was ruining a already bad looking suit.
And it made the final shot so much worse.
It ruined the whole scene and ended on a facepalm worthy moment.
And as usual i dont get how so many cosplayers can make so great looking costumes for all kinds of characters but million dollar studios with teams of costume designers cant come up with cool looking stuff.

Google batman cosplay and you will find a ton of incredible suits.
I mean you could have easily hired one of those cosplayers with their suit for this one shot and would have been cheaper than what that awful suit has cost probably.

Im left with a sigh because i really had high hopes in the show 5 seasons ago when it started.
A show that shows how gotham fell, maybe one that transforms in a real batman show...but what we got was pretty bad that showed early on that they never had an idea where to go and just decided to butcher the whole lore left and right.
Its a damn shame because the actors and the look were fine for the most part.

Judging by everyones comments I think I'm going to let the previous episode be the finale for me and not watch the final one.

Perhaps if, rather than a full frontal- phrasing, I know- shot of Bats, we'd gotten a side view or just the back and slowly pan back, like the Season 3 finale shot of Bruce on the rooftop?

Not really surprised people who didn't like the show to begin with hated the finale (though not with a little merit). :funny:

I was not as disappointed, though I'd already read up on the leaks on Reddit, so I was prepared for it. There was no way they would wrap this up satisfyingly, even for fans of the show, in 40+ minutes. It was always going to feel rushed, and I partially blame this on WB for narrowing down the episode count as one of the main issues with this season.

That being said, I like Gotham's Joker and think his look is unique for the character. Unpopular opinion, but I don't care what people think.

That last shot was so goofy looking though, I'll agree on that. :funny:

When was the last time The Riddler used a riddle on this show ? He and Cobblepot had been portrayed as complete stooges for the past two seasons. It was just amplified in this finale, which was kind of like Gotham's Greatest Hits, 10 years later. I felt pretty jipped by the amount of Batman that we got to see, but I guess it was kind of interesting. I think Donal Logue and Erin Richards brought ALOT to this series. It was a twisted, good ride, overall.

Would have worked better i think, a shot like that also would have shown parts of gotham, made him blend in a bit to show that gotham is part of him etc.
But this angle they gone with and all just looked incredible bad.

Gothams Joker is one of the better things about the whole show.
Even his final joker look belongs to one of the better things no doubt about it.
Better writing and stuff could have easily made this version one of the best ones.

They meant me. These are the two times I threw snarky comments toward them trashing Gotham and one time I seriously asked them why they kept posting here despite hating the show (I was ignored all three times). Though I was never "riled up" until seeing that comment directed personally toward me today.

Thankfully they apparently promise to never come in here again.

Oh my god, this ****ing show.

This costume is perfect for it.

I know right? It’s so over the top and makes me cry tears of joy. Episode 8 can’t come soon enough.

Source for episode name (Episode 1 to 4): SpoilerTV

If “Miller” doesn’t get in here being condescending about “Gotham without Batman” and “tiny scrawny little David Mazouz” I will be surprised.

No one's bothered with m1ll3r right? Except me? Okay then I'll be the one who asks.

@m1ll3r Why do you follow Gotham news/ leaks so closely despite not watching Gotham and even hating it? I mean I watched Gotham religiously and I'm not as leak-savvy as you. I've been in this Gotham subforum for nearly 3 years now (it's the reason I registered at SHH, along with the BvS box office) and throughout the years I've seen you occasionally stopping by and dropping news/ leaks/ condescending comments about literally 3 topics:

1. "useless Batman prequel without Batman"
2. "tiny scrawny little David Mazouz"
3. Gotham's "trashy costume design"

I honestly don't know why you're so obsessed with the show. You clearly don't watch it, you actually don't hate it (because you don't watch it) but you hate the existence of it (because it's "Gotham without Batman" or whatever). So what motivates you to seek out Gotham news, which you always abhor, and then post those in the Gotham discussion thread? It's clearly not because you want attention/ want to rile fans up because you've dropped in several times and no regular posters here pay attention to you (I think there's only me who throw unfunny snarky comments towards you sometimes). It's clearly not because you want to "convert" Gotham fans into haters like you because no matter how much "bad news" you bring in people will still watch the show despite all that (even when they agree with your opinion to an extent).

So, why do you keep dropping "bad news" here just for people to ignore you? I distinctly remember there was a CW superfan who was obsessed with Gotham ratings (despite not watching it I think) and was always the first posting "Gotham scored record low last night" but even them got bored after a while.

I did like the modulation on David's voice for Batman, particularly when he's reunites with Selina at the end. Also thought Lili Simmons did pretty well as Selina!

I don't remember much of what Riddler was doing earlier this season with riddles, the last time I remember him doing a riddle was that time in season 4 when he did a game show in the narrows.

I think it's kinda pointless to complain about the show not being accurate to the comics. It was rather obvious they had no plans of being accurate to the comics when the show was first announced.

I think this tweet makes a good point. The show did emulate the Burton/Schumacher movies a lot. They could have just reused one of the old suits from those movies.

heh, someone mentioned Val Kilmer and that was the voice I heard.

Hmmm.....
With that pic, which is more BTS but still, I wonder if there are deleted scenes from the finale. There is one where Oswald and Edward get mugged:

Finally, let's mention season 5's original ideas: it was announced the show would introduce the Ventriloquist and Scarface, Lady Shiva, Mother and Orphan, and Man-Bat. The season was also set to feature Bruce joining a gang to infiltrate No Man's Land and adaptation of Batman: Zero Year, which featured Nygma as the Riddler. There was also a plan for Nygma to be hiding in an abandoned library, surrounded by books and talking to himself, while naked and covered in riddle-themed tattoos. And Batman's final suit was set to be a "matte, metallic short-eared battle suit", inspired by The Dark Knight Rises, said by John Stephens.

I wonder how far they got with that suit before ending up with the one we got.

Season 5 would have been so much better if they had a full season rather than just 12 episodes.

I just realized, they basically put every big Batman moment in the trailer, except the last one. :funny:
