The Force Awakens Han Solo Will Return

I'm inclined to believe they could have him return in flashbacks should they want to explore Ben's upbringing. Could happen when/if Luke explains to Rey what Kylo Rens whole deal is.

And thankfully, we're at a point in technology where they could completely de-age Harrison Ford and have it look completely legit (Michael Douglas in the opening scene of Ant-Man immediately comes to mind).

I'm glad the character went out the way he did. It was a beautiful scene full of pathos.
I was still shocked when the moment happened (even though I was bracing for it the minute I saw the doom bridge), but they could've used a bit more time to establish their connection.

The revelation of their relationship was bad enough by being a throwaway, but on top of that I felt little kinship between the two.

I wonder if people had the same feelings between Vader/Kenobi back when Star Wars first premiered, because it presented similar circumstances.

My guess is we'll see Han again in a flashback or a hologram, or Luke might know a way to communicate with his spirit through the Force.

Although from what I've read people who aren't Force-trained simply evaporate into the Force when they die and aren't conscious ghosts per se.

I suppose there's also an itty bitty chance that he didn't really die, since his body wasn't recovered and we don't really know what happened to it. But given that he took a lightsaber through the chest, that seems super unlikely.

Well considering the entire planet blew up, I consider it highly unlikely. I do wish we could have gotten a body though so we can visit his grave somewhere in the sequels.

Let it go gents, he's gone I'm hear for counseling if need be.

on a side note Its been pretty documented ford wanted solo dead since empire so I cant see why anyone would be shocked.

I don't want to see Han again in any shape or form. I just wish his body would have been recoverable. I wanted a burial scene with him, not just have him tossed off a platform like a Stormtrooper.

I was thinking about this and I'm actually glad they didn't have Han and Kylo interact before that point. The build up was when Leia and Han were talking about it...so when Han finally meets Kylo face to face that conversation calls back to your mind...the history is there. So it makes it more impactful to me when Han finally meets his son again and why he is so willing to believe he can turn him back.

I have to admit I was disappointed in some aspects of Han's return.

The scenes with him and Leia were great. I liked his banter with Chewie, Finn, Rey, etc.

But...
I feel like the whole squid sequence was so expendable, when a more effective scene showcasing Solo's badassness should've been chosen. We were all anticipating something to stick it to the "Greedo shot first" argument, not a throwaway CG action sequence.

As for his last scene...
It felt rushed. I was totally on board with Solo's demise. It does add weight to the story. It does give him something to do and a purpose. But it really felt like Harrison Ford had a busy schedule and didn't have time to shoot a funeral scene, so they killed his character off as quickly as possible. The fall off the catwalk was the worst part.

The fall is important. He signifies Kylo Ren's path to the Dark Side. The casting away of his old life, no longer redeemable as that old part of him is gone for good.

...The whole film felt rushed if you ask me.

I thought it felt rushed too, even though I'm still satisfied with what we got. I would have preferred if [BLACKOUT]he didn't get thrown over the catwalk, then Chewie could have gone and picked him up to bring him back to the Falcon while Kylo went after Rey and Finn, then he could have had a deathbed speech with Rey on the Falcon and a funeral scene back at the Resistance base.[/BLACKOUT]

I think the scene works as-is. It reminded me a lot of the Balrog scene in The Fellowship of the Ring with the way it was set up and the way it ended. I think JJ might have been influenced by that scene.

I knew he would perish in the film, well since the mid 1980's Ford has been talking
about it so i wasnt shocked, but kind of shocked at the way it happened. When he called out to his son i said well this is it.

Yeah, same here. As soon as he went down to talk to him, I knew what was coming. Still shocked when it happened though.

I saw the movie on thursday. I have been itching to see the film again, but then I remember Han's final scene...and I'm not sure I want to experience that again, haha.

I get that. But the character deserved a more honorable ending to me.

I dont buy Solo coming back, even in a flashback scene. Pretty sure Harrison Ford told Abrams that he was one and done, so unless they already shot something while they were doing TFA I think it's the last we've seen of him unfortunately.

The studio or somebody could have simply managed a way to get Ford to return in the next film as a cameo for a flashback. He many not be all that stubborn

That's where Ford returning in the next film as likely in a flash back or something comes in, Most likely it'll be young ben/kylo related and so in the long run it'll benefit the story.

That's better than just this.

It does have its similarities, but the impact is different. We knew Gandalf would return and also the characters were given a moment to grieve directly afterward.

Well yeah, we knew Gandalf would return (at least those of us who read the books) but the characters didn't. But yeah, the LOTR characters did take more time to grieve.

The whole return to the Resistance base bothered me. Chewie walked right past Leia, and then she went and started hugging Rey, who she had never met. I expected to see Chewie grieving in her arms.
