The Force Awakens Han Solo Will Return

The whole return to the Resistance base bothered me. Chewie walked right past Leia, and then she went and started hugging Rey, who she had never met. I expected to see Chewie grieving in her arms.

Yeah, it felt like a scene was missing there. This is why I think they maybe needed to just come out and SAY that Rey is Luke's daughter. Because otherwise, why would Leia hug her? It just felt odd the way it was presented.

Maybe It's for a funeral scene or something?

Unless by some miracle they retrieved his body before Starkiller exploded, I don't see how they could have a funeral.

I mean, he fell down a very deep hole, and moments later the installation they were in was set to blow, then destroyed further by Poe and then Starkiller was destroyed and returned to being a sun.

I think his body is pretty much cremated at this point.

And to be honest, I like it as is. In the grander scheme of things, he may be significant to us but the death won't have as big an impact in regards to the bigger picture. To the few people who clearly do remember him in any meaningful way, it will be a huge loss but it's clear he was on his last legs with the gangs of the underworld and may or may not have had a major place in the new Republic. Instead, we get something that is quick but doesn't lack in impact simply because they decided to drag it out. Had they dragged it out, would we be seeing posts that it was too heavy handed? Too much extravaganza when it should have been far more subtle?

No matter what they did, I don't think it was ever going to live up to many expectations. What I did like was the moment between Rey and Leia on their return. The celebration from the Resistance and the quiet grieving of these two characters alone to the side. It didn't need more than not, especially nothing like the end of Revenge of the Sith - which I'm not complaining about, mind, but it didn't need to be dragged out.

I think Han's "demise" is a red herring. It's a talking point to keep fans speculating and was a story device to move other characters in different paths. But Harrison Ford has even said just recently that, "Anything is possible." Why invite the speculation if he wants to be done with it? Don't write him off just yet.

I love Han Solo; he's probably my favorite character in the whole series. But he shouldn't come back. Bringing him back would make that whole scene feel meaningless.

He looked pretty dead to me.

Even if he wasn't, he fell down a pretty much bottomless pit. Then the planet which said pit was on blew up. They basically made sure he wasn't coming back.

You could've cut his head off with a Lightsaber and you'd still have fans questioning whether or not he died...

He's dead. Accept it.

Unless he's secretly Plagueis!

or ya know....

I remember reading an interview when TPM cameo out where Lucas was asked why he cut Darth Maul in half. He basically said if he didn't, he knew fans would still try to reason he might still be alive after falling down that pit.

Seriously

1. Light saber through internal organs
2. Fall into a vast, nearly bottomless hole
3. Planet imploded into a star

Han's dead, baby.
I totally think he's dead, but you gotta remember, Luke fell into a "vast, nearly bottomless hole" and survived.

And then the Clone Wars came along.

Loved Han's role in this, and I liked his fate more than I thought I would, it actually made sense in the context of the story and I wasn't expecting that.

But Luke didn't get a lightsaber through his chest. Han's dead. They made it quite clear.

Luke fell and was immediately rescued. Han fell and Leia acted like Charles Xavier after Storm got gutted by Sentinels. We didn't see his body. And both Leia and Rey embraced in mourning.

Wait, people think Han may not be dead? He was killed pretty conclusively. But even if he survived the lightsaber in the chest, he fell from a great height. And even if he somehow survived the fall, the planet he was on imploded on itself not long after.

Then again, I will admit, stranger things have happened in Star Wars. Darth Maul got chopped in half and also fell from a great height... and a few years later he turned up alive in the Clone Wars show. I personally think such a thing is stupid as hell, but if a character is popular enough, I cannot say that there is no Star Wars precedent.

I still think he will remain dead for future movies, but one never knows for when they start with comics, novels and shows based on the new films.

...and Boba Fett in the EU. :hehe:

And the title of this thread takes on an ironic twist from when it first started.

I do wonder why they didn't write it so Chewie could get the body so they could do a big funeral scene later on. It'd be a proper sendoff and fittingly epic in a huge movie like this. It woud've been simple, just don't have him fall down the shaft. He could have just collapsed on the catwalk. Or heck they could have just had some sort of memorial ceremony without the body, for Han and all the pilots who died.

The fact that they seem to have deliberately avoided showing the body in a final dead and buried state does make me wonder just a little if it won't turn out that somebody (say, Maz) was somehow able to catch Han before he hit the bottom and whisked him off somewhere and he isn't actually dead.

There was just something about the way they structured it that didn't seem absolutely final to me.

Guess we'll know in two years!

Keep Han dead. He had a good death...he died with a father's look of unconditional love on his face. It was powerful.

There's not much more for him by coming back. Ben is his son...whats he to do? Kill him w/ vengeance?

I really wanted more Chewie...but it was a minor gripe.

Yeah keep him dead, but please give him some kind of funeral or memorial in the next movie.
