BvS Henry Cavill IS Superman - Part 1

Well, then there's also the fact that the public hasn't really had a good chance to see Superman's face clearly. The only people that got a good chance to see his face were the Military really. So they can definitely play with that for awhile as to why no one can see through Clark's disguise for the most part.

I wonder how or what they'll do to play off his obvious attractiveness. I mean, DP Clark did look very nerdy, to me anyway, but he's still a bit of a stud. Maybe they'll counteract it by having be such an overly nice guy, he comes off as boring?

Maybe Snyder, Goyer, and Cavill they should take a page from Reeves Clark portrayals and have Clark be more clumsy. It would bring out some of the comedy in the film also by having Clark be more goofy and clumsy.

But the problem is that being goofy and clumsy could always bring more attention to him instead; plus I can't see this version of Clark going down that route for his reporter persona.

No, thank you. That was fine for the Reeve-verse, but would be far too hokey and out of place nowadays.

Snyder's lingering fangirl servicing moment in the film which should service the ladies on here. :oldrazz:

Many will probably disagree with me but that was such a cringe worthy moment for me. You might as well have had Cavill standing in front of a mirror flexing and saying "how do you like my muscles".

Yeah I'd rather see him as a serious reporter

No

And

Have you not seen Thor 2?

Hokey is alive and well in superhero movies.

I thought it was exposition of a necessary plot point that contributes to the narrative. How would you have handled it?

Relative to 300, MoS was subtle.

It was a Snyder shot. We saw Cavill roaring with effort and his biceps bulging in the trailer too, but when I saw the movie, the camera dipped to his adominals for a lingering close-up. I was surprised because you don't see that in serious mainstream studio films today. You would think someone from the studio or in the editing room would ask him to cut it out.

But then I realized it was a Snyder film. :woot: And he's like Tarantino in a way, he's a film nerd and likes to use different types to film-making grammar. You would see shots of the lead actor's muscles rippling in the Italian Sword and Sandal pics or some of Arnie's 80 action pics to show how "macho and powerful" the hero is. So it was just that, I wouldn't call it cringe-worthy, it was just like a overtly obvious "hero shot" or a "muscle worship" shot. It actually got a big cheer in the my theatre!

And like someone said, Snyder's very reserved here compared to 300. Every second shot in 300 was Gerard Butler's abs rippling (in slow motion)!

A little fan serirvice for the ladies never hurted anyone. They get a glorious shot of Cavill's 8 packso they can shut up about Wonder Woman's swimsuit costume.

I don't think there was enough.

2 shirtless shots? Just TWO?! :wow:

:p

... was I saying something?

:hehe:

In fairness, we got A LOT of shirtless snaps during the filming. I just thought that scene was incredibly short for something we'd seen so much of in pictures. Felt a bit of a anti climax.

Boy if I had a nickel for every time I heard one of my friends say that after their honeymoons.:o:oldrazz:

It does seem like they cut a lot of out that scene. I wanted to see more "$!#! Wtf?" reaction from the workers myself. :) From the soldiers too. Especially when they first meet him. Because I was thinking about it and I was like how long was he floating there? Why was Swanwick behaving like he'd seen it before? I wish we could see all the scenes that were cut in the editing room.

It is 'eye-candy', no doubt. But that shot does serve a use, in my opinion. To show it is indeed a man holding that impossibly heavy object up.

I think the shirtless scene is fine, I just don't think there was a need to pan the camera down to show his abs, as a woman I liked it, but it didn't add to the scene and took away from what was really important, the expression of the face of this "man" who is holding up think oil rig.

It wasn't long enough for me to care. I saw Superman, that finally looked like a Man and not a boy, holding up tons and tons of steel. Period. Great scene.

I will catch a lot of hate for this, but for me the only men who have problems with a scene like this (that shows of the physique of the hero) have either big issues with their own bodies, or are not very selfconfident.

I work out 3 times a week since five years and love those scenes, when they aren't overdone.
Man, I remember how hard I hit the gym the day after seeing MoS for the first time. And no, I am not gay, but there is nothing wrong with showing of a good looking, well trained body. Especially in superhero movies! Hell, Jim Lee drawings are basically nude muscular guys, with costumes painted on and there nobody has a problem with it.

I couldn't agree more with this. ^

For someone who's such a "bro", Snyder's films are filled with more homoerotic imagery than a deviantart search for Sherlock.

I'm fine with a little eye candy in movies, but it can be executed better. Having the shot start with Clark's face and pan down to his abs serves no purpose but to be an ab shot. But if they did a slow pan up his entire body from his feet to his head, the ladies would get their fan service as well as acting as a dramatic reveal shot of Clark doing something heroic.
