I'm fine with a little eye candy in movies, but it can be executed better. Having the shot start with Clark's face and pan down to his abs serves no purpose but to be an ab shot. But if they did a slow pan up his entire body from his feet to his head, the ladies would get their fan service as well as acting as a dramatic reveal shot of Clark doing something heroic.

True, maybe in the next film.

A little fan serirvice for the ladies never hurted anyone. They get a glorious shot of Cavill's 8 packso they can shut up about Wonder Woman's swimsuit costume.

Haha. Snyder is nothing if not equal opportunity. He sure made up for all the six pack shots in 300 with Lena Heady's and the Oracle's nipples bouncing in slow motion! t:

In fairness, we got A LOT of shirtless snaps during the filming. I just thought that scene was incredibly short for something we'd seen so much of in pictures. Felt a bit of a anti climax.

Well that physical transformation thing was used extensively for promotion, so I can see that you might have expected more.

But you'd be better served by Immortals, the movie Cavill did before MOS where he is half naked for half the film and just as sculpted. It has some pretty great action scenes too!

It does seem like they cut a lot of out that scene. I wanted to see more "$!#! Wtf?" reaction from the workers myself. From the soldiers too. Especially when they first meet him. Because I was thinking about it and I was like how long was he floating there? Why was Swanwick behaving like he'd seen it before? I wish we could see all the scenes that were cut in the editing room.

One entire section of the oil rig scene was cut out for which we have tons and tons of promo material and even behind the scenes. That is when he is wearing the wife beater. Its strange they are showing stunts and prep and shooting of that scene but the scene itself is nowhere to be seen in the finished film. It is not even included as a deleted scene.

It is 'eye-candy', no doubt. But that shot does serve a use, in my opinion. To show it is indeed a man holding that impossibly heavy object up.

Lol no. Honestly, that shot is just to show Cavill's abs.

I think the shirtless scene is fine, I just don't think there was a need to pan the camera down to show his abs, as a woman I liked it, but it didn't add to the scene and took away from what was really important, the expression of the face of this "man" who is holding up think oil rig.

Or maybe they could have done simply a full body shot. Like below.

That way they could show his face and abs together and it won't just be an abs shot.

It wasn't long enough for me to care. I saw Superman, that finally looked like a Man and not a boy, holding up tons and tons of steel. Period. Great scene.

The entire scene is actually pretty rousing. This is one bit of music from the score which I think is fantastic. The big BRAHHMMMMM kicks just as Cavill stops the oil rig from falling. Like I said, it got a big cheer from the audience in my theater.

I don't think so. I don't see it that way. Inspite of all the shirtlessness, Snyder has a very masculine gaze. When a woman director (with a female gaze) is showing you muscle, she will show it like 'this man is sexy'. Snyder's camera will show it like 'this man is powerful and deserves your respect'. Its like health magazine covers or body-building videos, they show you muscle to but are videos staring men, made by men, for men. Or like comic book superhero art showing muscle. Again art drawn by men, featuring men, for men. They seek to highlight physical superiority and power not sexiness.

But the alternate perspective is also fine and I have heard it from some other people.

Zack's producer on his films is his wife…so it may be her suggesting these shots.
Also a good way to put more butts in seats is by showing off the sexiness of the star…just like Marvel does with Hemsworth.

I think Zack's wife handing a hand in what goes into the film made it more appropriate for women. So Henry have the shirtless shots and having Lois wear sensible clothes for normal women to not feel threatened (that they can relate to her.) She obviously wanted to make sure the film to be well liked by women. It is my thinking that Superman has always been, of all the superheroes, very universal and well liked by both men and women.

To be honest, I think the Cavill muscle shots were more for fanboys, than girls. I think Snyder felt the need to put them in so people would quit complaining about Cavill being too small, muscles suits, etc. Girls liking it was just a secondary bonus.

And when wonder woman is shown in that silly bathing suit making ridiculous poses, I'm sure no males will complain about it and call it a "service" of any kind. Naked men is a fanservice. Naked women is just...how things are.
