I do hope that, post-death and return, he is given a certain sense of clarity or has a bit of weight taken off his shoulders.

A whole league of people would help with that.

I would love the opportunity to see Superman be charismatic. Senate hearing would have been a good opportunity. I think Cavill would knock it out.

When the weight of the world is off his shoulders, I can see that being a possibility.

Certainly hope so. Plus having banter with Batman and Wondy, guys like Barry... could be great.

I don't think the problems with the characterization are Cavill's fault. He's got the qualities necessary, he's just hobbled by the writing.

Which is why I think the Replace Cavill thing, if serious, is stupid as hell.

I think it might just be a gag.

That'd be a deal breaker for the DC films for me.

^ Ditto. Hope people aren't serious. The issues aren't his fault.

I'm out if Cavill leaves or replaced.

^ There's no way any of that's happening. :funny: Superman will return in JL1, and he'll be played by Henry Cavill.

Please don't replace Cavill. The guy is the living embodiment of Superman...outside the movies. If Superman had a british accent, he would sound like Cavill.

I still fail to see how a child couldn't watch Man of Steel or Batman v Superman. It's never quite gory, and they're about as dark as a Star Wars film.

It's not about that. It's about injecting some levity into the situation to avoid an overbearingly depressing atmosphere.

BVS pushed things further into the no levity/depressing direction than anything in MOS, to be honest. Kind of wished they had stayed the MOS course a bit, rather than spending so much time dwelling.

This is what I'm talking about. It doesn't seem overbearingly depressing at all. It was a Superman movie where Clark sticks to his guns despite everything being thrown at him. There were humorous moments and plenty of times when he smiled. I was touched by the ending and hyped when the dirt lifted off his casket.

Yup, it went in the opposite direction I was hoping for. If Snyder stays on, he better lighten things up

They said a few times BvS is going to be their "Empire Strikes Back", and Justice League Parts 1/2 are more Return of the Jedi.

It was a Superman movie that tore him down and in the end something uplifting should have happened to bring him back up. What did they do instead? Well...we all know the answer.

How did it tear him down? By putting his back to the wall and making him struggle early in his career like the last one?

Lex gives him an ultimatum and Batman provokes him. He finds a way out of Lex's "kill or be killed" scenario, brings out the good in Batman, and gives his life to save a world that fears him. He proved he was a hero to Lex, Batman, and the world and he didn't need to operate on anyone else's rules. He was finally sure of himself when he told Lois "THIS is my world. YOU'RE my world." He was portrayed as a hero through and through, and much more confident than he was in the previous film. I'm now more sure he's going to be the hero he's grown to be in the comics in the next film.

A lot of the things that make this Superman contemplative and melancholic should go away when the Justice League is formed.
