I'm curious about something. How much actual speaking time did Clark/Supes get in this film? Think about it. How many lines of dialogue are we actually shown? I feel like probably barely tops 10 minutes. I'd be fascinated to see how long a cut of just Superman's speaking lines are. I mean, they barely gave him anything to do.

How is it that Snyder can make even a montage of Superman SAVING PEOPLE look dour and depressing, geesh? I mean I don't need, or really want, full-on Chris Reeves here, but give me something.

Also how is it that he can seemingly know exactly where Lois is no matter the distance, and that she's in trouble, but cannot do that with his own mother? Or right, because then we couldn't have the big battle scene.

I thought the montage had a nice balance of striking, hopeful imagery and an undercurrent of darker ideas about Superman not being comfortable being seen as a savior with his burden spotlighted.

Saw it for the second time today and HC's Superman is my new all time favorite character. Holy lord, was I wrong to think that he doesn't get to emote all that much.

My favorite scenes of Supes showing an amazing range of emotions was when
he says to Lois "I will have to convince him to help me or.....I will have to kill him." And then when he says "No one stays good in this world" the pure anguish and pain on his face like he's almost going to burst just made me tear up at that.

Other favorite scene was when he tells Lois at the end "This IS my world" and that knowing smile he gives Lois when he tells her "You are my world" and goes off to sacrifice himself. Oh my god that was amazing. Cried like never before.
Henry is an absolutely amazing Supes and has so much more range and emotion in this movie, he's really evolved from MOS and I thought that movie was pretty much perfect so that's saying something. :)

I thought the saving montage was one of the better parts of the movie.

[BLACKOUT]"I will have to convince him to help me or.....I will have to kill him."[/BLACKOUT]

Please tell me he didn't actually say that...

He really does show quite a range of emotions during this film.

He's got like, some layers to the performance of his frustration, sadness and his "burden scenes". He ain't just frowning the whole time. He was fantastic.

anyone else feel this scene was so out of place in the sense that superman is made to look like a jerk

maybe if they had a scene where lois is doing some investigating and batman scares the crap out of her so she gets out of his business

then i can see superman being pissed at batman but without such a scene he looks like a major *****e

Supes going after Batman made no sense until Martha Kent was kidnapped. So the above sceen was so weird and random.

I know Clarke had a sudden interest in Bat's vigilante action but there should have been more explanation as to why all of a sudden he had an issue with it. The prequel comic explained that Batman had came out of retirement and was even more brutal than before. His sudden willingness to kill, where he hadn't before, should have been brought up in the movie, thus giving Supes a good reason to go after him…

That was the reason.... did you miss the whole bat branding and Clark's questioning of Batman as a reporter? Alfred telling Bruce he became cruel because he was feeling powerless. Clark showed interest right when Batman became more brutal.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this...

With superman "dead" and him returning for justice league, how awesome would it be for him to return in the most epic way with that great Christopher Reeve-type superman charm and be the superman we all hope and expect and to punctuate his arrival with a teasing slow build that leads to a full blown glorious rendition of John Williams' theme

People will lose their ****, I think.

It represents a shift in his methods. What Batman is doing in Gotham, Superman was doing on a global less violent scale when the films opens. Imposing his will on others. And it's not sudden, he has been investigating for a while.

I like this Superman and Cavill enough that I really dont want it associated with the Williams theme (and I love CR Supes). Anyone else feel the same? Cavill has earned the right to stand apart.

He's at the moment where Supes can finally come into his own.

Which is also why Snyder has to go because at this point I dont know that we'll ever get it with him on board. The only way he knows to build anyone up is by tearing supes down.

Superman pulling the tanker was a great shot.

i wish we got an actual scene that whole montage fell flat for me because i never got the sense he cared for humanity

an actual rescue scene would of done wonders

There are people on that tanker.

This iteration is just too focused on the 'moral dilemma of a god', it doesn't know or care to depict one who accepts their place in the world.

[/SPOILER]

When he smiled at her, assuredly, he looked as if he jumped out of a comic book page. 100% Superman.

It would be interesting to know how George Miller was going to handle Justice League before the writers strike caused it to be cancelled. Australian actress/model Megan Gale was already set up to be Wonder Woman, and I understand that Batman was to be played by Armie Hammer.

There's a script out there. Batman killed. So...yeah.

Miller's JL was going to be a Tower of Babel adaption with Max Lord taking Ra's Al Ghul's place. And Batman's solution to the problem [BLACKOUT]was very Man of Steel-ish[/BLACKOUT], shall we say.

The script for Mortal was really solid, I often wonder what if with that one.

[BLACKOUT]"I will have to convince him to help me or.....I will have to kill him."[/BLACKOUT]

Please tell me he didn't actually say that...

Umm, you're telling me you haven't seen the movie and are still roaming these forums which are chock full of spoilers? Why would you do that?

Also, it doesn't sound as bad as it does. He doesn't actually think about killing Batman, he just states in the most pained way that he is being forced to consider it by Luthor given that (spoilers)[BLACKOUT] his mother's life was on the line.[/BLACKOUT]

Plus he says first that he has to get Batman's help. Plus he doesn't fight with Batman and tries to reason with him before he is forced to contain the situation which leads to the fight.

An actual rescue scene did happen, he saved the child from the burning building while smiling to comfort the parents and arrives to save the family in the flood.

If you didn't feel that he cared for humanity by the end of the movie, then idk what to say. That was the point of the film. That he would against all odds always do the right thing and even [BLACKOUT]give his life for a humanity in whom he regained a lost faith[/BLACKOUT]. "This is my world" was when I felt that all come together.

When he smiled at her, assuredly, he looked as if he jumped out of a comic book page. 100% Superman.

Haha yeah, I love how he smiles when he saves that little girl from the fire too, smiles to reassure her parents while he's handing her over to them.

Why do people think he had to be smiling lifting a rocket and pulling a boat in the ice. I don't get why people have said anything about his facial expressions in those scenes aswell, in both he's straining a little and in the rocket one he has a face of someone when they lift weights cause he's lifting a rocket above his head.

Exactly. It's like people need this false sense of 'happy Superman' when it makes the least sense.

I thought the montage was beautiful in terms of message and imagery, but I still wish we could see a couple rescue scenes in which supes has actual dialogue with people. Not a whole speech or anything, but a short exchange perhaps to reassure someone.

He came off more oblivious than jerkish in that scene, IMO. He just turns up and admonishes batman, but doesn't have the sense to look at what he actually flew into, which is a skirmish over a substance that could kill him.

That scene was amazing. Perfectly acted by Cavill.

JUst going on favourite Cavill acted scenes

One of my favourite moments was when he said to Lex [BLACKOUT]I'll take you in without breaking you, which is more than you deserve[/BLACKOUT]. If that wasn't a perfect Superman moment then I don't know what is.
