that was also a thematic response to Lex's problem of evil speech

he says there was no god to save him from his father's fists

and here superman saves him from a punch

Being completely honest I'm so upset that most of if not all of the general movie going audiences/critics didn't bother to point out the deeper messages within the story of both MOS and BVS. There are both physiological and thought provoking aspects of both MOS and BVS that make me really appreciate the movies even more when breaking them down. Kal El's conversations with Jor El as well as Pa Kent, the imagery, etc. In BVS we had Batman's dream sequence to open the film, what years of being Batman and experiencing loss has done to Bruce/Batman (resulting in him comparing criminals to weeds) leading myself to wonder what exactly happened to Bruce/Batman resulting in me wanting more solo movies, Clark's really well done scene w/ Pa Kent in the mountains, and again the imagery, as well as the scene pointed out above w/ Superman saving Lex from Doomsday (that connection to Lex's speech goes over everyones head) it's so subtle and so well done, but it's things like that I wish were valued and appreciated by critics/audiences instead of a watered down product. Hopefully WB can find the right balance because I love the deeper meanings, messages and imagery from these first two films.

And after seeing Cavill's additional scenes in BVS UC, Cavill is clearly getting better and better. Cavill IS Superman to me.

That's because there was barely any. You can't expect people to see things are not there.

Very good point.

Eh, I think it's fairly obvious the imagery and dialog point to a 'weightier' symbolism than your standard blockbuster or superhero fare, where there's little to none. Whether you think they connected properly is another issue.

To this day I scoff at most analyses of MOS, but that's only because I did not at all believe the subtext were executed well. Peripherally I could spot the attempts.

As it turns out, nearly everything worked for me on BvS. :funny:

thats what i love about DC Films they aren't just comic book movies they strive to add another layer to the mythos

dont forget the cool Excalibur parallels the lady of the lake gave king arthur excalibur out of the water and it has a tint of green much like lois going after the kryptonite spear for supes

The references to watchmen, appearance of horses in the background and parallels with King Arthur and incorporating all these while still delivering a coherent plot(BvS UE),Zack did a very good job.

The UE definitely made me care more about Clark and superman's sacrifice in the end was fitting as his selfless act will drive batman to change his perception of humanity and form the justice league.

Henry Cavill is perfect as superman.

Question: why are people restricting Superman from doing anything and being relatable? Using MOS and BvS as examples, given the criticisms people give them, regardless of those movies' reasons why.

bunch of biblical references and stuff

If thats truly all you took away from it,I genuinely feel sorry for you.

Answer: Because relatable shouldn't mean constantly being miserable and forlorn, especially for Superman.

so that people can continue to complain he is boring and not interesting.

Making a bunch of biblical references and stuff means its deep, yo.:hmr:

I thought the Pieta'/post-Crucifixion allusion was really moving. I also think it was the only time I wasn't wishing for Gadot to leave the screen.

light and fun we need i suppose.

It's the circumstances though. Would you be upbeat and grinning ear to ear if the media and public were hounding you 24/7?

Answer: Because relatable shouldn't mean constantly being miserable and forlorn, especially for Superman.

I didn't mean that at all.

I mean, why are fans and audiences hypocrites? They say Superman is not perfect, yet they want him to be perfect. They would say he is conflicted, but then they would scream to the character "don't question, just DO THINGS!" All of that making Superman the things he's not: boring, too powerful, pathetic, one dimensional. Or like in BvS: they criticize Superman being "moopy", but they are forgetting that regardless of being him being a good guy who helps those in need, if the results of his actions are all negative or can even result in death, it can break down EVERYBODY.

Everyone can relate to that, Superman going through that makes him relatable. So why are people out there crying and whining that "he shouldn't go through this!, he shouldn't go through that!" Instead of realizing that, no only are those arguments dumb (and that's the G-rated version of what I would like to say), not only do they create an emotional investment between the character and the audience, but they also make the character relatable and interesting, without actually compromising the character.

Why are these fanboys causing problems when it is them who are the problem?
