BvS Henry Cavill IS Superman - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 26

Seen the Ultimate Cut?

Yes, seen it. Still think the same. While his story is definitely more fleshed in the UC, I still feel like Snyder doesn't like him. My favorite thing from BvS was Batman, by far. Superman was just... there.

well, batman is the main selling point. at least they got u to like him. :)

I think Henry is a limited actor but he is good. He does very well with his facial expressions and eyes. In BvS I heard less difficulty with the accent than in MOS. The only line he delivered that seemed flat was "did you find the spear". I didn't like that delivery but everything else was great. I would like to see how he does under a different director. And I would much prefer his deep thinking man of action Superman over the Donner version.

BvS is the best story for Clark Kent by far... at least movies wise...

Yes, I think it is. Zack really made me care about Clark/Superman. I truly believe he loves Superman and that showed in BvS.

Agreed. A lot of Zack Snyder's Superman is a little mix of Jurgens' 1990's stuff (when it comes to Clark being the real man in Superman) and New52 stuff (actions, response's, fighting style, etc). I've said it a hundred of times but Snyder's Superman story thus far is a Clark Kent one and his death in BvS is a reflection of symbolism that Clark Kent's death is Superman's rebirth. From now on, Superman will be here to stay and we'll see more iconic traits everyone loves and endures. It's sure set up that way. The 'deconstruction" if you will.

Oh, I haven't thought of it that way. Very interesting, makes sense.

does that mean more new superman films? or Arc complete... reboot... you know like spidey treatment...

I think JL will complete the Man of Steel/BvS arc. The two movies dealt with him struggling to fit into the world both as Clark Kent and Kal-EL. He never was really dealt the necessary cards to become the Superman he wanted to become, hence "Superman was never real." Even in Man of Steel, he didn't have the chance to find out who he was or have any time to ponder his heritage by being thrust into the role because of General Zod. Now with the world changing with the JL and the exposure of Luthor, he will come back to not only a different world, but a world of others like him who can relate. JL will complete his current arc and should take us into a brand new phase once Man of Steel 2 hits. By then, the League will be fully fleshed out and Superman I'm sure will have some major feats. I sure hope that will be the case. To hear the studio wanting to get Superman right for audiences is music to Super-fans ears.

"right" is the key word... there are so many types of super-fans who interpret "right" differently and can't see beyond the "right"... you know...

and it was so difficult to do... they have been trying since SII... till it sorta got it right at MOS...

It's a good problem to have. Honestly, for any creative professional in the entertainment industry, Superman is the GOLDEN STANDARD. Writers, creative teams, artists, what have you, should be chomping at the BIT to get their hands on Superman. He's so intimidating, polarizing and challenging, but yet, so worth it in terms of how the 75+ years of a fanbase and the history views him. The ironic thing, the core of the character over those 75 years never changed. Superman is a constant while others change for the sake of their own good. Costumes and interpretations may change, but the core of who Clark is never will. Going back a bit, if I was head of creative in the entertainment industry, to get Superman "right"? You'll be a legend forever. It's worth the leap.

Quick question about Clark Kent that came up in another conversation; is Clark adopted or did the Kent's pass him off as their son? He lands on earth at various ages between 0-3 in different versions; but for MOS I think he was still a relative newborn; and I recall in the novelization they tried to take him to the doctor. Someone mentioned that a fake adoption in the 30s was much easier than it would be in 1980.

If I were in their position, I'd claim she was pregnant without realizing it until she went into labor, since that can happen. I don't know that they'd know anything about that back then, though, unless they happened to know someone it happened to.

ya. you r sorta right...

but if i was an actor and has the choice, i think i would choose to play a new superhero than superman... you know... like Ironman, Captain American or Thor... ( i mean before Marvels did them) there were no baggages, and if it was a hit, the success came sweeter and it was all yours. you were that hero... no comparison...
many Reeve / Donners superman fans hate MOS & BvS because it didn't follow the same tone and story pattern... they somehow took it as a threat... it was new and wasn't a continuity of the movies they love...
therefore they wanna see Cavill superman movies failed... :(

Or because we simply think MoS and especially BvS are pretty ****. There's that.

It's not explicitly stated in the movie, but I got the impression from when Jon and Martha were talking to Lana's mother after try the bus save that she spoke to them in a manner that inferred that Clark was theirs, otherwise she would have dropped some questions about who his natural parents were given the miracle she believed just occurred.
In both bullying experiences, Pete Ross on the bus and the kids outside the welding shop, no hint of picking on him for being an adopted kid as outlet for insults.

Have you seen the BvS UC ?

And in any case, I wouldn't go as far as to say that MoS is pretty ****, but if you think so.. more power to you.

I haven't bothered with the UC yet. When it comes down in price, I may (and that's not exclusive to BvS... Even movies I liked I'm holding out on. $35 for a bluray seems excessive to me in a world of cheap streaming services).

MoS I'm 50/50 on. Always have been. Had it been executed better, it'd be the best Superman movie. As it stands...

BvS is pretty ****, though.

The point is though, it's got literally nothing to do with anybody's relationship with the Donner movies, and those suggesting otherwise are way waaay off the mark.

for you. perhaps yes.

Show me where anybody (including me, since I'm apparently the "perfect example") has tried to hate on the DCEU because they're somehow afraid they'll retroactively tarnish Donner.

i didn't say they hate it because MOS & BVS will retroactively tarnish Donner.

i said they hate it because MOS & BvS didn't follow the tone and story pattern of Donner? you know... boy scout, light, fun and bright... where everybody are good and love superman...

examples? you can get them in many of the critics...

I want to get back to discussing this movie and the aspects of it and leave the debates behind.
One thing regarding Henry that I would like to know your opinions on is his accent; how do you think he is doing with it? Do you think this might be contributing to his lack of dialogue? Or do you think he is as good as Hugh Laurie?
