"Here We Go Again" Part 4: New Welling As Superman Rumors?

For a long time I could only see Welling as Superman, but it's just because I grew up with him as being Clark Kent. I guess it's somebody else's turn to grow up with a new Superman. I'm glad it's Henry Cavill, he's a great pick, and a fan favorite. So most people should be happy. I sure am. :D

Wow! WTF?

I was in the process of formatting a post which contained links to posts made by a now banned SHH member named supes44, who predicted Cavill would be cast as Superman back in December. But all of his posts have now just vanished. I mean, just NOW! Why is that? (Rhetorical question.) Dude was already banned for "trollish" posts, so I'm not sure what the problem is/was that his predictions from almost two months ago might add more egg to face or be cause for a belated apology. :o

Anyhoo, the moral of the story is, never, say, never. Ever.

When Henry Cavill plays Superman, I hope the shield symbol will be bigger and resemble the comics version. :super:

People need to calm down about the Welling in the suit thing. Smallville's finale is in May 2011. The Man of Steel wont be in theaters until December 2012, that's 19 months in between the two. One wont effect the other.

Plus, the casting has no impact on anything like that. We've known for close to a year or more that a new Supes film was coming, and just 5 months ago WB Features gave Smallville a Superman suit to use as a prop.

All is well. Smallville will still end as it should.

That's debatable, Hulk. More than likely that suit is just what you called it - "a prop". It's doubtful that it would fit Tom.
Plus, when you say that all is well and that the show will end as it should - do you really think the ending we deserve is Tom wearing that maroon aberration from a movie most us hated with a passion ?
I know it's certainly not the end I want (and it's not even coherent with the past images of the suit/symbol they showed in the past) and like I said it's a poisoned gift.
I imagine all the Routh/Singer lovers taking pleasure that we're all have to eat more crow as not only Tom wasn't chosen to progress to the big screen in the role that's rightfully his but even if he wears a Superman suit in the end, it will be the suit of their precious Routh from the train-wreck of a movie most of us hated and badmouthed.
I hope these news at least make all the SV fans unite and tweet the producers of the show (who seem so enamorated by Singer's movie) to end it right and give Tom at least a real Superman suit deserving of that name.
And hopefully Warner will at least consider the idea of doing direct to tv/dvd Superman movies with Tom.
Not as great as a big screen movie but better than nothing.

Even though both Tom Welling and Brandon Routh are 6'3, the SR suit was tailor-made for Routh. They would have to create a Superman suit tailor-made for Welling and these spoilers about Lois' role in creating the Superman ID may lead to a new suit. The red shield jacket isn't going to cut it. We know in SV, Clark will start wearing glasses in Masquerade. :super:

Didnt say Tom was going to wear it. Tom will have his own suit, he has to as he's a bigger man than Routh and wouldnt fit into a suit tailored for Routh. My point in bringing up that was that the suit was still allowed to appear in some form. There's no embargo against it for the show. They have full run of the legend and have so for some time. Their season is mapped out (in at least outline form) and everything that they want to do has been signed off on already. People need to stop trying to recreate these Bryan Singer era conspiracy theories. They have no basis in reality any longer.

Again, Tom's not wearing the Routh suit. It's only a "poison gift" if your imagining poison.

Tom's played the role longer than anyone ever. And again, he's not wearing that suit. So the only thing they'll take pleasure in is reruns of SR on SyFy network.

 What SV producer is "enamorated" (enamored?) with Singer's movie?

Seriously man, you're getting all worked up for a conspiracy that just aint there....

The only thing I can think of saying about Cavill is that he has more of a pretty boy model look than a look than villains should fear. Though I guess the same could've been said about Welling, and he still managed to pull it off.

*Points at sig.*

It's quite a legacy. Time to savor the hours of Tom as :supes: that we have left, people. Maybe it's not the big screen, but the sheer quantity is still pretty impressive.

If the restrictions ever took place, they wouldn't show the Superman suit, future Clark with glasses, and Clark and Lois working at the Daily Planet. Tom has played Clark Kent longer than even Christopher Reeve.

A sad day Indeed. As Serene stated, now it's officially a count down to the end of an era.

I'm still having trouble accepting it. But they won't shoot for another 4 months, and it should be even longer before real news and images come out for the movie. Which means (hopefully) that since Smallville will be over for awhile, I might be more willing to accept.

There seems to be enough love out there for this choice that maybe I'll be more open than I was over SR.

I hope that's a guess and not an actual spoiler since, as you know, this isn't a spoiler thrread...

Not a fan of the casting but we'll see how it pans out. Hope to be pleasantly surprised.

He really can't be worse than Routh, can he?

*bites nails*

(I'm sure the guy is nice and I've seen him do well in other projects, I just think he was the wrong man to play Superman, no matter how much he looked like Christoper Reeve.)

I'd say it's more of an educated assumption. Nothing has really been confirmed

I kinda wish there was something we could do to show Tom how much his time and work has been appreciated.

We could try to organize a campaign to raise money for a charity for Tom. He supports several, I believe...

We could notify him via the Smallville offices or somethng...

The current producers who at Comic Con announced the SR suit like it was the best thing in the world (cut to Tom's face in obvious worry). Even Gough and Millar loved that movie and praised it. As for the suit itself you're forgetting the interview done a few months ago where the current producers are flat out asked if they were gonna do a new suit and they say they thought about it but thought it was better to have the SR suit and that it fits better with SV's world. I hoped that if Tom was chosen for the new movie that it would change their decision and that he would end up wearing the new movie's suit. Now that hope is lost.

I find it unbelievable that the SV producers were able to spend money creating costumes for the other DCU heroes and villains and they don't do the same with the Superman suit that would be tailor-made for Tom Welling. Instead, they buy it from Superman Returns. Did they expect Tom to wear that SR suit? :super:

Really excited to see Tom and Cavil donning the cape, each playing the character in distinct eras! I think Cavil looks a lot like Tom, and I think we're all going to be happy with this one.

Still, Tom Welling will always be the ideal Kal-El for me. Always.

They did?

Not that those two have had any relevance to the show in almost 3 years, but bad-mouthing WB Features while you're still employed by WB probably isnt the greatest idea, although the only things I can ever remember them saying about Singer and Co was that they were pretty cool and open to a lot of the ideas the show was going to do back in Season 5 that didnt run afoul of what the film was doing.

 I've never seen any interview where anything remotely close to any of that was said. Please, post a link.

Missed the news yesterday due to work all day/evening and didn't get online to this morning. Boy was I shocked to read the news. Totally out of nowhere did this come. But I am super happy they finally have clark kent/superman cast. It is nice it is very early too. So it gives him alot of time for bulking up/prep work. As for cavill man he is so dam lucky scoring superman now, after he lost out on it in the past, same with bond and some other big roles. Now is cavill my first choice no. But he is still a solid choice in my book. A decent actor, good looks, in proper height range give or take. I cang wait to see who else joins him in the cast. And I hope he hits it out of the park.

I agee with others I doubt there is any restrictions now just cause cavill was cast. The producers said months ago they have no restrictions on superman stuff. Plus with production ending at end of march. That is still a good 4 to 5 months before the rumored production start for superman is. . Then the film isn't coming out to next winter. So what sv does in last few episodes would have no baring on the film. Since the general public wouldn't know what happens. Plus a yr later is plently of time to move on from sv.

Ha, anyone's an improvement over Routh.

Cavill looks good and no doubt has the acting chops, he just seems too short to me. But it seems he's wanted this part pretty bad for awhile, and I'm very curious to see what he does with it and the direction they go.

It's just healthy skepticism for me...

Totally from what little I know of cavill he is a better actor then routh(my opinion).

I really wish there was too! I still have hope that I will meet him one day and get to tell him thank you in person.

Maybe we could start a campaign to have fans record their thank you's for Tom and send them in to me somehow. Then I could edit them together and upload it to youtube and send it to a SV writers twitter or something so Tom could see it? I don't know, I'm willing to attempt it even though it would be a lot of organizing and campaigning. I don't think i'd get that many videos anyway, it shouldn't be hard to cut them together into a 5 to 7 minute video. Don't know if this would be successful, lol. I'm just throwing out ideas. :yay:
