Hitman: Absolution - Part 1

I really liked Absolution, but I think it has quite a few noticeable flaws. The story is nonsense, even compared to previous games. I liked that they tried to provide a better narrative, but it wasn't written all that well and everybody over acts which I find detracts from the experience. Plus it didn't really come to a satisfying conclusion.

You need to replay the old games. This is easily the most cohesive story IO has put out for this series. We got more insight into the mind of 47 in this one game than we have in all the other titles combined. The acting fits in fine with the world IO has created. This is an over the top, darkly comedic world. This isnt something Chris Nolan has created.

I would have preferred some contracts and maps that weren't tied to the linear story path.

That wouldnt of made any sense tho, based on the story IO was telling.

I think the next game should allow a gameplay feature, that lets you take on multiple attackers in close combat. Like you execute a quick jab to the throat, that makes one character topple while he tries to catch his breath, while you take care of the other guy. I always wanted to do a double takedown, like in Deus Ex, when I saw the first two guys near the Elevator.

Absolutely. I lost track of the amount of times I wanted to take down more than one target without the use of a weapon.

I didn't suggest anything of the sort. I agree that we did get more insight into 47 (who I thought gave the best performance). I disagree that the acting fit the world of Hitman. I think they overdid it with the scenery chewing from a lot of the actors. The previous games may have had some overacting, but Absolution piles it on.

My point is that I felt the story was too invasive to the gameplay experience at times and didn't really give too much opportunity to just relax and enjoy a contract (like the previous games) without worrying about the overall plot. It always had this sense of being pushed forward and the contracts themselves didn't feel that varied and were entirely contextual to the story there and then.

This is a really damn good stealth game if u want it to be and playing the game in purist might actually be the purist stealth title offered. The main difference here compared to old SC titles is that 47 is far more capable in a fire fight than Fisher. If you botch something 47 can contain the situation before all hell breaks loose. Would deff reccomend to anyone whose a fan of stealth games
Yeah, that's what I feel like is missing, which I think is mostly a product of the SC games being a part of the last generation of stealth games. The stealth is great, but once you're spotted, it doesn't feel like you can really do much and shooting feels unnatural unless you're sniping someone from afar.

I really can't wait to pick up this game because from everything I've heard and seen, it looks like my kind of game, and it sounds like there are so many ways to go about a level/mission.

.

No, it deff fits, especially when IO says Hitman takes place in more of a grindhouse type world. Complaining about overacting here is like complaining about over the top violence in a Quentin Tarantino movie.

This isnt the previous games tho, we've had 4 of those with the exact same structure. It was time IO tried something new. That was the issue with previous games and why IO went this way, you were never worried about the plot because it was barely there.

Yea you should really enjoy it. Its one of the few stealth games that really allows you to go at it from any angle. The shooting mechanics are great if you so choose to go that way and going at it silent offers some of the best gameplay around.

It doesn't make your opinion any more fact than mine is. If all you're going to do is offer a back and forth of my opinion is right, yours is wrong then let's just leave the conversation here.

And I feel Absolution goes to the other extreme at times.

Sure it does. The developers of this game back me on this. They created this world as a darkly humorous, over the top, grindhouse type world. Over the top and asinine characters tend to inhabit those worlds.

And I feel Absolution goes to the other extreme at times.

Yea i can agree there, i tend to like more story though.

Wish it would be a little more tamed though. The other games didn't feel over the top or like a grindhouse type world. Some characters just felt silly. Like the best informant in town is a guy who gets **** on by birds all day?

I'm having a lot of fun going through different levels and seeing how professional I can be. Killing no one but the targets, subduing people rather than murdering them, etc. I managed to do the first part of the Terminus Hotel by subduing a single guard, and the second part (get to the eighth floor) without touching another person.

Admittedly this does tend to require a reload or two :D

Yea they went a little more in that direction compared to previous games, but this world has always been like this. Hitman has never been a "serious" series.

There we go, did the entire Terminus hotel and only knocked out a single guard. A friend of mine scored something like 14,000 and my new score is 21,650. Not high by leaderboard standards, but it should push my buddies buttons haha :D

Hah nice. I always end up pulling that one guy out the window. Never ghosted that level.

I chucked him out the window three times before I finally resisted the urge and did it properly haha :D

I was just looking at the rankings on each level, so far the Terminus is the only one I have "specialist" for. I did a quick Google search but can't seem to find a handy list of the different ranks, although I gather "silent assassin" is the top one. I have "veteran" for most of them, which I assume is pretty low, "shadow" for a couple, which sounds cool but I don't know what it means, and "agent" for a few which I'm going to assume is the lowest rank?

It goes:

Agent

Veteran

Professional

Specialist

Shadow

Silent Assassin

Wow, I'm better than I thought! :D

EDIT: Holy crap! I just got "silent assassin" on the King of Chinatown level and I was just messing around!

Sorry for the double post.

Is there a way to put things down, instead of throwing them? Sometimes I want to place a radio or an explosive but it seems like there's no way to simply place them down gently, you have to toss stuff. I wanted to put explosives on the King of Chinatown's car and ended up lobbing them through the windshield. Worst. Assasin. Ever.

I think you just have to press the right trigger. He won't attach it to the car, he'll just drop the explosive where you stand.

Thanks! I just tried it with a bottle and it worked perfectly. Much better than throwing things around like an idiot.

I just did The King of Chinatown level on Purist Mode because I was trying to beat my buddy's score of 172,150. I managed to knock it out the park and get Silent Assassin with a score of 208,575. The highest score in the world currently (for that level) is 273,068 and I honestly have no clue as to how you would achieve a score that high. It must have something to do with bonuses and challenges, I guess.

Yea those challenges stack the score. I dont know if my buddy still has that number one spot, but at the time he did, thats what he did. He completed all the challenges then ghosted the level.

LOL. I dont know why the image of that is so funny.

IMO if the next game can somehow combine the look and mechanics of Absolution with the less linear aspects of Blood Money while still retaining a solid narrative (and improving it where necessary) it will be the best Hitman game evarrrrrrr.

Yea its gonna be really interesting to see what Square Enix Montreal does with Hitman 6. The ONLY requirement is they bring back David Bateson.

...also Victoria :lmao:

I like the idea of having separate hits in open maps around the world. The hits could even be related, which would be the easiest way to tie the story to each one. My first thought was that having so many different hits in different locations would make it awkward for a single story line, but after giving it some thought that obviously isn't the case. There are a ton of ways to incorporate multiple hits in a huge variety of locations and still have them relate to a single narrative.

Additionally, I mentioned a while ago in this thread that I'd like to see 47 take on someone of his skill level. The idea still appeals to me, playing an intricate game of cat and mouse during levels/hits against an enemy who's as stealthy and dangerous as 47 would be superb fun. Imagine opening up a container to hide a body and finding one already in there? I think that'd blow our minds as we frantically try and figure out what kind of costume the other guy is wearing.
