Comics How do you feel about them killing off MJ

MyPokerShirt said:
yeah someone posted a thread starting (and i paraphrase):
Due to her appearance in Spider-Man 3, we all know Marvel will bring Gwen Stacy back. How should they do it?
:o Slight overeaction, non?
Non. MAJOR overreaction. I don't see them resurrecting Harry.

I've been on vacation (Grand Teton/Yellowstone National Parks - awesome!) and figured I'd come back to something shockingly BAD.

I'm inclined NOT to buy this speculation... but if it is true, I'm done with Spider-Man comics till they bring her back. Seriously.

I'm an adult with income to spend, and I've spent A LOT on Spider-Man in the past couple of years... my niece has just recently gotten into the character too (mainly because of his relationship with Mary Jane)... But I guess they'd rather throw away the fans in hand, to gamble on getting new ones. :(

The marriage has been the one thing that MOST fans seem to enjoy... so how STUPID do you have to be to want to screw with the one thing you have going for you?! I'm just glad that if they continue down this path the odds are good that they are going to fall on their collective arses.

I don't buy it, but they have been known to screw with the one good thing they have going for them before.

The problem is that Joey Q doesn't understand the difference between expanding on your existing fan base and jetissoning current fans in the hope of getting new ones. The second one's easy for a few months or so. The first one's hard but it can be done through good writing or a bit of IMAGINATION!

Gawd damn, first the unmasking then this? Marvel really got some balls...

It's not official. It's all just on the word of a comic book store owner who thinks that he has inside information.

Don't like it. But if she has to go I say kill her instead of have her and Peter get divorced.

It's a rock and a hard place, IMHO. We can have an angry, bitter, Amazing Spider-Divorcee, ot we can get a good 6 months of Emo-Spider, the lonely widower.

I would prefer her die as apposed to them being divorced, but then again, if I could pick, Spidey and MJ would stay together, Spidey would still have a secret identity, mechanical webshooters, a science-based origin, and the red&blue costume....so what do I know?

We already had that during Mackie's run.:down

Ugh...don't remind me. That was perhaps just as bad as revealing that MJ wasn't dead, and then having her and Peter get back together again just so she could leave him!!

You have to wonder sometimes why Marvel gives the "go ahead" to terrible stories like those...

I do. I wonder all the time.
For the record, the organic webbing doesn't bother me as long as they don't put a lot of focus on it. The sidekick costume is horrendous. I ignore the mystical implications of his costume, & I think that, given time, his unmasking will fade into the woodwork & it'll be like it never happened. Like Mackie's run.

Agreed on all counts.
The organic webbing wouldn't have bothered me as much if it hadn't come from a crappy storyline (Spider-man: Dissassembled) that was done for the sole purpose of tying into another crappy storyline (Avengers: Dissassembled). As it is, it's the least offensive thing that's happened to him in the past 3 years or so.

Nah-becoming a schoolteacher is the least offensive thing. I liked that angle & some would argue it's the ONLY thing JMS has done right.

Wolverine can smoke and drink as much as he does because it will never permanently danger his body.

OK so Wolverine butchering a bunch of people, innocents, SHIELD agents, and superheroes is fine . . . but smoking cigars is out of the question?

OK so Mary Jane gets killed. Then in a couple years we find out the one that died was really just:

1) An actress with plastic surgery.
2) A clone.
3) Mary Jane from another dimension.
4) Recreated using hex magic.
5) Mary Jane's bastard baby she had with lobster guy who was really a Norman Osborne toadie with the goblin formula. The formula caused the baby to grow up really fast to look exactly like Mary Jane. The baby's name is also Mary Jane.

Amazingly enough (or not), number five is the one I would expect Marvel to do. :(

I'm in no way surprised, but I was expecting something more along the lines of having her sleep with Norman so they could destroy her character then boot her.

I doubt MJ would ever. ever. ever. do that. She loves peter too much.

But no one can resist Osborn's "Magnetism" not even the so called "Master of Magnetism" but MJ dyin' would be the worst thing that could ever happen to Peter right now... although she will be revived...

The teaching thing was never even an issue to me. In fact, it seemed like a natural progression for Peter. I just wish he would try to continue working for the Bugle AND teaching.

Oh, wait, he's being sued by the Bugle, thanks to the unmasking, so it's unlikely he'll ever be at the Bugle again.

I was also hoping he'd do both. But then I think he should not live in a luxury apartment or be a sidekick.
