The Dark Knight Rises Hugo Strange

What if John Malkovich was cast along side Anne Hathaway for The Dark Knight Rises when they both were about to star in Spiderman 4!

I know eh. I'd love if that happened! It would be historic for that to happen, really.

Exactly. If you want to sit there and stare at one of their costumes, you can always refer to your comics. Nolan will be using them to advance the narrative. It's already been pointed out, but TDK was over 150 minutes long, and Joker had about 25 minutes, Batman about 20 minutes, and Two-Face about 10 minutes of actual screentime.

If Nolan thinks he can juggle Strange, Catwoman, Bane, and Batman (God I hope so) I have no reason at all to doubt him.
Hugo Strange hasn't much of a costume.
Yes, Nolan may be using them to advance the narrative (and I applaud the way he has handled the villains so far), but I feel all of these characters have rich histories in the comics, and would hate to see any of them reduced to plot devices.

Problem is, that Maroni and Falcone were really just extended cameos, neither of them are as big in the mythos as any of Bane, Catwoman or Strange. So if all three are in TDKR, one of them will suffer and not get as much screentime as we would like.

You are forgetting the amount of time devoted to Rachel in the last 2 movies. Between the amount of time she ate up and the amount of time Maroni and Falconi took in the previous films we are talking about a pretty decent chunk of extra time. Nolan can more than easily manage two villains and a love interest/villain, especially if the mob doesn't play a big role in this film.

Hopefully.
Rachel screen time - Hugo Strange (but not the love interest, hopefully).
Harvey Dent - Catwoman (neelds more than Rachel had in TDK i.e. not die 2/3 of the way through)
Joker - Bane (main villain)
Hmmm. Still leaves room for a minor villain.
I'm not saying it can't work (and Lord knows Nolan can juggle multiple villains well), I just want enough screen time for three great Bat-villains.
IF Hugo Strange is in the film, of course. Amy more info on that?

I like Bane but I'd be fine with him having as much screen time in this film as Scarecrow. Really it all depends on how much of his origin they plan to tell. I wont be disappointed if Hugo Strange isn't in this as Bane and Catwoman are both great characters, but if Strange is in this I would much rather have the focus be on him over Bane. They are both strong characters but Strange is more interesting.

Also, really time wise I was thinking something more along the lines of Batman Begins. Bane has about the same amount of time as Scarecrow, Strange has about as much time as Ra's, Selina has a little more screen time than Rachel. That still leaves tons of room for Nolan to tell his story, and put the proper amount of focus on Bruce and Batman.

Agreed re: Strange being more interesting than Bane. I feel though, that if Bane is in TDKR, he will have a good deal of screentime if he is going to 'break the Bat'. He has to have a bigger role than Scarecrow.
If Strange is in it, I like the idea of developing a Monster Men type drug called Venom that Bane uses to give him the advantage over Bats. But then, so many people have thought of this that I'm sure Nolan has thought of something more original.

EDIT: Yeah, Bats HAS to be the focus of this movie.

He really doesn't need that much screen time if he breaks Batman's back. The focus of the movie from that point on is going to be more on Bruce than on Bane anyhow I'd imagine. Like I said, it really depends on what direction they go with Bane. If they include his origin, then it will take up quite a bit of screen time, because the Santa Prisca storyline isn't something that can really be half-***ed. But if they don't then they can devote plenty of time to both Strange and Selina.

But if Bane breaks Batman's back (or something similar that forces Bruce out of the game for a while), what do they do with Bane until the final confrontation? He's not just going to leave Gotham, and having him control Gotham off-screen would be equally frustrating. What do you think they should do with him? The idea I've heard elsewhere of Catwoman taking up the mantle and combatting Bane until Bruce returns holds promise for me.

That would work. Worked for tdk.

Reg Jett's: "RW as Hugo Strange?" Tweet:

“RW as Strange? Hmm….”
Absolutely nothing. All I was doing was thinking out loud after a chat I had with an industry friend of mine. I’ve made no secret that 1) I’d LOVE it if Robin Williams finally got his wish and was cast in a Batman film, and, 2) I’d also love to see the character of Hugo Strange included in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Put those 2 together things together and, “RW as Strange? Hmm…..”

That’s it.

I’m flattered that all these outlets think that one of my Tweets is a story, but really, they’re all making a mountain out of very small anthill. If I knew that Hugo Strange was in the film for a fact -- as well as Robin Williams portraying the character -- I wouldn’t say anything about it anywhere."

Nothing but a publicity stunt for site attention.

Can't say I'm surprised :whatever:.

Oh well.

Speculating and substituting character screentime from the previous two movies onto the new one is fruitless exercise imo. The characters fuel the structure. Bane and Catwoman are not the type of characters we had previously. What I am saying is, knowing Nolan, Rises will be as different from TDK as TDK was from Begins.

Just like when you resisted the urge to make obscure Bane comments on your forums before it was announced. Right... whatever :whatever:

He contradicts himself then again to on his Facebook:

"Hay Jett whats all this talk about robin williams as hugo strange? any truth in it?"

Jett's really on a roll now...

"Glad to hear I'm that respected-- which is no surprise due to the way I run the site."-- Jett on Facebook

He sure is proud of himself.
