The Dark Knight Rises Ideas For Incorporating Characters Into the Nolanverse

MercuryEnigma, you have some very good ideas. The only 2 parts that could use some more work is the final confrontation (anti-climactic) and the ending (personally, I find it wrong to end a trilogy with a cliffhanger).

Yea, the ending def needs a bit of work. You're right about the Joker ending, but I want to through it in there somewhere. Thanks Gianakin for the constructive criticism! I surely can use it as its a rough draft.

Also, keep in mind that I wouldn't make this a very theatrical, colossal and big-stunt-oriented Batman, like Begins and DK were. I'd bring it back to the roots. Seven meets Silence of the Lambs meets film noir.

Here are some thoughts on casting for the 3rd...

Bruce Wayne (Batman) = Christian Bale ***of course***

Alfred = Michael Caine ***of course***

Lucius Fox = Morgan Freeman ***of course***

Osward Cobblepot (Penguin) = Gunnar Hansen ***I would like to see Oswald as a major crime boss in control of much of the crime activity since the fall of the leaders from the 2nd film. I imagined a glass eye in place of the monocle, smoking cigars, but very gruff - wealthy, cold hearted in his actions, and very powerful in the underworld. No waddle, no umbrellas, no penguin kinship, just a big powerful forboding guy that means business, takes charge, and gets what he wants at everyone elses expense.***

Edward Nigma (Riddler) = Crispin Glover ***I would like to see The Riddler as very OCD and while not serial killer like.....very calculating in a dark and sinister way. I see him wearing Dark Green suits, dark goggle type glasses rather than the face mask. A cane, but not a comical big over sized "?" - more of a very subtle "?" shape. Have him working his crimes so that they cause the greatest amount of damage and confusion when compared to the crime wave being set off by Cobblepot and the mob. Not have them working in unison directly, but have the Riddler playing off of the crimes taking place by the mob.***

Talia al Ghul = Olivia Hussey ***I would like to see her elusivly work her way inthe Bruce Wayne's life and try to bring him down much in the way her Father did, and she can even have loose ties and connections to Cobblepot and the mob - just for the sole purpose of bringing down Batman.

THOUGHTS? :brucebat: COMMENTS?

Olivia Hussey? Why would you choose an actress who is one year older than Liam Neeson, the actor who essentially plays her father? Other than the fact that she did the voice for Talia one time?

I believe she looks the part - could play the part very well - and I dont remember ever checking actors and actresses ages to see if it were really possible for one to be the others father, mother, cousin, step child - my god, its the freakin' movies, HOLLYWOOD - have a little imagination and let the film studio do their work. Its not like she is 20 years older than him, and I think she would be perfect for the role.

I think the best choices so far would be the Penguin and the Riddler.... I mean the penguin would fit perfectly for the Nolan franchise and how it ties in with the whole mobster/crime thing being that the penguin is like a underground mob boss.... but I don't know about the riddler.... can he be as menacing as the joker?

the riddler could be made to be like the Zodiac or the Son of Sam. Killing people and leaving riddles behind.

Mr.Freeze-A old guy name Victor who is in his 80's who needs an oxygen tank to breath, and uses a cane to get around who has a wife in her 20's that has a rare disease that has made her really sick and doctors have given her just a few weeks left to live.

Doctors tell Victor that there is hope,an experimental medicine that could save her life, but it is very expensive.

So Victor goes to The Penguin to get a suit that can make him move around, that has a breakproof glass helmet that gives him oxygen, and a high tech gun that shoots out ice.

Then Victor decides to go get the money that he needs to save his wife no matter what.

Ventriloquist/Scarface-The new leader of the mob.

The Penguin-An armsdealer who has come to Gotham to supply criminals with all kinds of weapons.

Firefly-An arsonist who buys a high tech jet-pack,and high tech weapons that shoot fire from The Penguin.

The problem with Hussey is that she looks so much older than Bale:

She's still a beautiful woman but Talia is supposed to be a love interest for Batman as well as a villain; it'd be hard to buy a man in his mid-20s/early-30s being enamored with a woman so clearly older than him.

Black Mask - Roman Sionis; owned a company that Wayne outbuys, and is also Black Mask at night and is the new mob boss. If Sal Maroni isn't dead, then Black Mask could kill Maroni.
Phantasm - A brand new character, the DA Janice Porter(from Dark Victory), and also is killing mob bosses(could work great if Black Mask is the villain as well).
Bane - An assassin/hitman that the mob hires to end Batman(someone that they know who he is, not like Joker where they didn't know about him).
Catwoman - Selina Kyle of course. Batman's new love interest, but then becomes Batman's enemy.

My top four choices.

cool drawings

did you by chance happen to read a post on the internet about how cool it would be if Penguin hung out on rooftops and beside penthouse pools all day? I saw that somewhere as well

Black Mask: CEO of Janus Industries and playboy, Roman Sionis. But, is also Black Mask new crime boss taking territory from crime families after they lose all their money from Joker. He works in the shadows ala War Games giving orders to his minions to take out and is leaving Gotham in the midst of a gang war. Freaks v.s. mob

Firefly-arsonist Garfield Lynns, employed by Black Mask to take out mob businesses as well some Wayne buildings for Sionis.

Catwoman: Selina Kyle, society girl and jewel thief. One of Sionis' many girlfriends who has her date Bruce to steal information on any corporate deals Wayne is doing. But she is has other plans she is with Sionis to get information on his plans on the gang war so she can protect the east side as well as dating Wayne to steal from him.

Sofia Gigante: Carmine Falcone's daughter taking overthe Falcone business after her father is insane/dead and Sal Maroni's 'death?' starts a full scale war with Black Mask after he starts stealing her businesses.

Rupert Thorne: a corrupt polician who is intent on knowing the identity of Batman and bring him down. Has connections with Gigante and is a consigliere for her on the side.

Penguin: Arms Dealer selling weapons to both sides and is who Batman targets to stop the gang war.

Lockup: Overly zealous guard at Arkham whos taken down a couple of pegs by Bats

Firefly: Terrorist (think Unibomber) who causes trouble with a flame thrower and protective gear (watch the beginning of Lethal Weapon 4).

Both used in exposition just to spotlight a Batman action scene a la

hahalol- now i dont know if your taking a stab at my penguin concept - but i guess your referring to his drink with the umbrella in it- just playin with an idea- it would just be a nod in case no one really wanted to see him lug a real umbrella around. and i dont know if its evident- but he's in a wheelchair. anyway thanks for the 'cool drawings' compliment

^ I was talking about the umbrella chair (didn't see the wheelchair) as well as the cocktail drink. It's because a while ago I posted repeatedly about how cool it would be if Penguin hung out on swanky rooftops all day. Girls by the pool, lunch meetings in the sun, and when it rains he has the only umbrella for himself while his associates sit casually in the downpour and listen to him bark orders while their cigarettes get wet and their scotch glasses fill with water. And yeah it was also my way of rationalizing the umbrella gimmick for an aristocrat who would realistically spend very little time outside in open air. A guy like that plays golf maybe, and walks from the limousine to the club entrance, that's it. Not much opportunity to be carrying around an umbrella on screen. And the rooftop thing is a nice way of portraying a bird-like element, close to the skies, as well as luxury and power. And it mirrors Batman in that both figures would survey their domains from high above.

So I just though it was cool you drew exactly what I had in mind. And I thought maybe you'd seen those posts :yay:

An idea for a more "realistic" Poison Ivy concept.

Insane charismatic eco-cult leader. Portrays herself as a messianic Earth Mother type figure and gains a fanatical following among Gothams disturbed and dissolusioned.

No talking to plants, or poison kiss. But does have an affinity for plant derived chemicals and toxins as part of her cult initition and brainwashing methods.

(I decided I'd do Bane, with that idea of the myostatin inhibitor)

BANE

Santa Prisca is known for three things: corruption, prisons and medical technology. The three go hand in hand: the corruption of the prisons provides thousands of test subjects for the medical and genetic companies, mostly foreign.

One of the test subjects was a then-teenage boy, known only as Bane, a bright young lad who entered prison at a young age due to his father being unable to pay the bills. Bane and ninety-nine other children were subjected to a test of a new "supersteroid" called only "Venom". The steroid was highly experimental, involving the blocking of the Myostatin-producing gene that regulates muscle growth, followed by a large dose of more conventional steroid muscle-enhancers. Ninety died from the the Venom, nine had only temporary effects, only Bane received the full effects. The once-normal boy became a hulking behemoth, and although he remained in prison, it was clear to all that it was by choice, and that he remained there only because in prison the strongest man ruled. Several years later, however, Bane escaped, and left to go another place where strength and fear ruled: GOTHAM!

The Ventriloquist... Black Mask, penguin, and bring back 2Face... have a no mans land type movie on a small scale...

Or if you wanna ditch that idea...Im hoping Nolan visits these boards and read this...
PUT SCARFACE(Ventriloquist) in the next FILM...he has the potential to be CREEPY...Bring back 2Face and have the Ventriloquist as the co Villain!!

Even though I'm not familiar with the character. I like that first thing you wrote. Sionis could work as a say, ''criminal'' version of Bruce Wayne. Where Bruce uses wealth to become Batman and fight evil, Sionis likes to play mobster in his spare time. They could even share some of those ''Bruce as a socialite'''- scenes. I like it.

What about throwing The Clock King in for good measure?

Although....It has potential to be a cool little Scarecrow-sized villain... Have another scene with a mob meeting, and then have this ****ed up twisted guy with a Ventriloquist dummy sitting there. To show the freak element breaking through. Again, I like it.

So many possibilities.

Id actually love to see a No Mans Land scenario. Just the idea of a violent earthquake rocking Gotham and then having Batman deputized (that happened during No Mans Land right?) after becoming a villain in public eye could have an interesting repruccusion (sp?)
