The Dark Knight Rises Ideas For Incorporating Characters Into the Nolanverse

I recently saw a blurp about a news report to be shown at 11, it said that the military has created a exo skeleton suit of armor that allows a person to lift 100 pounds (I think it said) on their own. They also allow a single person to lift a missle.

So Mr. Freeze's armored suit that boosts his strength isn't too far off.

I have an idea for realism :
Make Victor Freeze have his cryogenic scientific accident...and let him DIE from it! Nobody could survive at such temperature, now THAT's realism!

Heheheheheheheh I hate Freeze

Why? What is it, specifically, about Mr. Freeze that you hate?

My suggestion would be to NOT have a cryogenic accident, but instead, have whatever real-life medical condition that causes people to respond badly to room temperature.

Hey Artistsean, do you have a link, cuz if they can make that suit look like a Master Cheif's, I'd have a heckuva halloween costume next year...

any attempts at clayface, you guys seem to be taking the easier of roots...

Uh, YEAH! I tried Clayface once, and then... my head exploded!

Luckily it was able to reform itself due to the Renu-U drug I've been taking for my facial acne.

Clayface is'n't Clayface without his shapeshifting, and a reasonable reason for shapeshifting has yet to be given in real life.

November Rain, I just saw Doomsday last weekend... were you just as amazed Lois didn't close her eyes (or get scratched... at all) as I was?

I'd go for Man-Bat before Clayface... at least Man-Bat is based on a REAL animal that has DNA. Ugh.

nah, lois having her eyes open was just to dramatize the scene, 10 seconds into the film, i knew not to take anything i saw too seriously so it wasn't that much of a stretch.

Man-Bat

Dr. R. Kirk Langstrom is a cutting edge geneticist who has spent years researching bat and human DNA finally finds a feasable way to put them all together. Within a few months (or years), a big giant bat creature is tearing up Gotham city... much to Batman's shagrin. The main villain of the movie finds some way to use this to their advantage and Bruce knows Francine Langstrom (the wife) from years back. Turns out that Langstrom impregnated Francine with the spliced DNA and she gave birth a half-bat baby (traumatic), that grows very fast, and is a full grown monster within a year (or witihin ten years). Kirk Jr. just wants his parents' love, and when he dies, he shows a great deal of humanity in doing so, perhaps even outright sacrifice.

There you go, plausible science, none of this 'transforming' foolishness, true to the character's roots and storylines, and provides some real emotional grit as this family gets ripped apart under the duress of Kirk Sr's mad science... and it can easily support a taller arc with a more classic central villain.

Hmmm. Man-Bat is generally considered impossible, but removing the transformation phase is definitly a good start ^. Having man-bat as the doctors child is good because it puts the doctor in the position of having to hunt and possibly destroy his own son. along with the whole vulnerable Frankenstein type tradgey in the child itself.

Here's a dumb idea for a freaky and offbeat Man-Bat. He's basically Jeff Goldblum from The Fly, he gets the DNA splice and starts turning furry and ugly and his senses are going haywire. He's still 99% human but the rest of the transformation happens in his head. For example in The Fly the Jeff Goldblum begins imagine he's some fancy new specis of homo-insect. Likewise Man-Bat begins to "embrace his inner bat" in preperation for the day he'll take flight and roost high above the filthy masses of Gotham. He fashions some homemade 'batwings' to practice his flying and designs a headmounted radio tuner to focus his developing "sonar" ability. He's running around in a dark attic, shreiking and bumping into walls and flapping his wings. His transformation is almost complete; the Man-Bat will be the new saviour of Gotham. However he's already caused some trouble, stealing smilitary equipment, sending threatening warnings to crime figures and police or just generally freaking people out, whatever. Batman shows up and kicks his arse for being a weirdo, consequently exracting him from the plans of the more threatening central villain (as GL1 already mentioned.) I'm imagining Tim Burton directing from a Grant Morrison script here :whatever:

Its interesting to read these interpretations it can be done (BR catwoman and penguin where different from the original source) i just dont want them to be TOO different.

I am enjoying the realistic take on Batman, and expect it to last for a trilogy, which of'course means one more film after TDK. So far The Nolan team has utilized the more realistic villains from the comics, and grounded them to fit the gritty world of Gotham.

I'd rather they actually continue to use the more realist villain as opposed to completely changing around the more fantastical villains like Man-Bat, Freeze, & Clayface. In Batman 3, I suspect Two Face will take reign as the main villain with Joker having a minor returning role, and another mob boss; possibly one other villain.

I agree with you to a point. There are certainly more worthy villains, even supporting villains than Man-Bat and Mr. Freeze. But I think if TDK gives us Joker and Two-Face, then the third movie should give us different villains, with perhaps one of those two back in a supporting role.

Hush and the Black Mask need no changes.

Catwoman could be identical to her counterpart, but without the enhanced agility or anything.

Talia al Ghul would just be a simple assassin.

The Riddler would be a bomber that holds Gotham City at hostage. Near the scene of every bombing, he would leave a clue to his next target. Before actually becoming the Riddler, Edward Nygma would be a an obsessive-compulsive conspiracy theorist, and, in his research, discovers the truth behind the connection between the Arkham Outbreak, water poisoning, and destruction of the rails and the motive. However, after he comes public with his theory, the title "Ninjas Try to Destroy Gotham" is a bit of a stretch to most people, and is publically humiliated. Because of this, he attempts to take revenge on the people of Gotham City by blowing up key points the League of Assassins tried in Batman Begins. The only problem is that he would be more of a solo criminal, and since Batman 3 will have Two-Face, I don't think he'll be in any of the movies.

Firefly would be very close to his comic book counterpart, and would also be similar to the Riddler, but with more a penchant to arson than bombings. He also would not leave riddles to his target, and finding a motive for him would be pretty hard.

Hugo Strange would be good as Crane's replacement at Arkham.

Poison Ivy would be a radical environmentalist, and thus attack Gotham City for its polluting ways. She would be hard to adapt simply because of her motive is a bit...foolish.

Penguin, Killer Croc, and Great White Shark could be deformed freaks who attempt to take revenge on the people of Gotham for rejecting them. They and their army of "Freaks" would over-run Gotham the same way the Arkham inmates over-ran Gotham in Batman Begins. Great White Shark would be the head, with Penguin as his lieutenant and Killer Croc as his enforcer.

Characters like Clayface, Man-Bat, and Mr. Freeze would be next to impossible to adapt.

Spot on: Hush, Black Mask, Catwoman, Talia, Hugo Strange (replacing him with anyone else seems wrong now that you've said that), Killer Croc individually. Clayface (so impossible)

Too Convoluted/Comicbooky: Riddler (real people don't usually go on murder sprees just cuz they're publically humiliated) Firefly (real people don't leave riddles without some SERIOUS motivation to do so) Army of Freaks (nuff said) Penguin (doesn't need to be deformed)

Not Impossible: Man-Bat and Mr. Freeze. Both adaptable, they'd just have to be powered down. Making a human-bat hybrid is not scientifically impossible. Likewise, hitting someone with liquid nitrogen would insta-freeze them. They just have to be toned down, but both *could* conceivably occur in some form in real life. Clayface, no, because without shapeshifting, clayface isn't clayface.

Poison Ivy
If she is a Arkham escapee who takes up, or is a career, botanist/chemist, she might breed dangerous plants, toxins, poisons, etc... though she's not enough of anything to be a major villlain, she could function as a supporting villain with her resources (Joker needs chemicals, eh?) her sexiness (everyone loves sexiness), and deep seated desire to punish people for their injustice against the earth (not too far off from Ra's, is she?)

Riddler could be a serious psychotic serial killer who leaves cryptic an complex riddles at each crime, like the Riddle Killer in the movie Thr3e. As a child, Edward Nygma was abused by his father. His mother got in a car accident when he was little. In his despair, he found a strange love for riddles and puzzles. his twisted mind only grew as he did. After discovering that his mother was not killed in a car accident, but actually killed by his father, he snapped. His first murder victim was his father. Edward was smart enough to hide or destroy any evidence against him. A dual split began to grow in him, similar to Norman Bates (Shy young Norman and psycho killer Mother). As Edward Nygma, he was a young man who worked in a crummy job, had a crummy home, and a crummy car. He had no family or real friends. People considered him to be weird. As the Riddler, the sane hatred he grew for his co-workers and boss could be used as fuel to his next murder. Due to an obssesive compulsion, he has to leave a riddle or clue at each crime. He's crazy, he's a genius, and he's really really cocky. Although he gives clues to his next crimes, he always manages to somehow stay five steps ahead of Gotham's police. But when Batman arrived, all of that was ruined. Batman, being smarter than the police, can catch him before his next crimes and constantly put him in Arkham Asylum.

I doubt they could fit all of that in a movie, but that's just my idea.

Um, i'd like to see Mr. Freeze done well, but we almost definitely won't in th Nolan-Verse.

Gotta be honest, not many villians actually excite me enough to want to see them again...

What I mean is that villains you want to see but will definitely not appear Nolan-Verse

Catwoman and maybe Alberto Falcone and Black Mask as a cameo a la Zsasz. But that's it.

We don't know for definite that Catwoman will be in these films, thats only rumour.

But the whole point is "...but are never going to see on screen."

On topic, I would like to see:

Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, and Bane will never be touched again, simply because of how bad Batman & Robin was.

Clayface, along with Mr. Freeze, are too hard to adapt to the Bat-world Nolan is trying to create.

I would LOVE to see the Riddler, but he will not make an appearance. This series of films will probably be a trilogy, simply because the fourth installment of all of DC's films (Batman & Robin, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace) were horrible. And since it is confirmed Two-Face will be in the third film, the Riddler will not show in that film so as to avoid comparison to Batman Forever.

I would also like to see the Penguin, but Nolan said he would be too hard to adapt into his bat-world.

I'm just trying to find some motivation. And of course, it wouldn't just be public humiliation, but his entire life crumbles. He would also not want to kill all those in Gotham, but rather destroy the city like the League tried to do (has anyone figured out why a group of assassins tried to destroy a city rather than assassinate?)
Doubt he'll show up.
Army of Freaks (nuff said)
The name "Army of Freaks" is just a proto-name. It wouldn't really be called Army of Freaks. Probably something more like the Penguin's henchmen in Batman Returns.
Penguin (doesn't need to be deformed)
Can you think of any way to do him seriously?
