Yeah, it's not worth watching it.

Trust me, it's not worth it because it's not a trailer based on visuals effects or money shots. It's more of a character piece, in french where you can't appreciate the cinemtogprahy.

So basically it's the teaser all over again which I despised for completly misrepresenting the film to the public.

Of the people who I know have seen the first teaser their reactions have all been "meh" or they think it is a documentary or a history piece on the American space program. That's not the kind of reaction you want.

Nolan needs to show some of the space shots and that part of the story to get people in the theater.

The trailer is going for the emotional pull (more specifically the father/daughter bond). It builds up nicely and then they cram a few $$$ space shots towards the end.

It's a good trailer and I get what they're going for but for me, I won't rank it among Nolan's best ones.

Good. I want the whole campaign to be misleading to the point where you see the movie you're like 'hOly SHEEET. THER'ES A TALKING Cat in the movie!'

It's holding back..ALOT!

The problem is if they misrepresent the movie and make it look like a boring history piece or some film about corn and a dude crying while he drives away it's not going to get as many butts in the seats as a film about wormholes and space travel across the galaxy. Nolan wasn't even this coy with Inception.

Glad to hear it's got some money shots.

It's one of those things where, I'll agree, they're holding a lot. It could be a detriment to the movie's success, but there's a part of me who sees this as a social experiment where it just leaves everyone in the dark. Not even a tease, like with the 'Mystery Box'.

I'm sure they'll bring out the guns with the 3rd trailer a couple months from release. The hype train will be rolling.

Honestly, we live in such a spoiled movie age. People really have to unlearn the habits the internet has brought them.

Honestly, we live in such a spoiled movie age. People really have to unlearn the habits the internet has brought them.

Why tho? If people want to be spoiled or use the tools the internet has brought us why should we give that up or unlearn that? The days of only getting a vague trailer and not knowing a thing about a movie prior to release are behind us and given the average ticket price I think it's a good thing. People don't want to commit to a $15-$20 ticket unless they see something they like or know what a film is about. Back when ticket prices were $2-$4 me and my dad went to the movies every week and went into plenty of movies without knowing a thing about them cause that was pocket change we were putting down. Nowadays however a ticket price is the price of a meal so I need a little more to go on than vague marketing.

Because honestly, sometimes what you don't know won't hurt you. There are ways in which you can make an informed decision with regards to finances, reviews and word of mouth are the obvious ways, but that's not what has been learned in the internet age, it's got nothing to do with finances. What's been learned is this sense of instant gratification, that if said trailer doesn't show me something that I like I'm going I'm not going to care or I'm going to complain about it, despite not knowing the films actual quality.

The way I make decisions and the way the average moviegoers makes decisions about movies is the trailer. And yes it very much has to do with finances. I see it. Especially when popcorn at my local theater costs $9 for a small. A small 12 oz drink costs $5.34. 2D tickets cost $12.50. 3D costs $15.50. So if you've got one or two kids and a wife a trip to the movies can cost over $50. You really think people don't take their finances into account when it comes to movies?

It's not about what hurts me. It's about the fact that I'm dropping an obscene amount of money to see these films at the theater and I want certain things in exchange. One of those things is a decent marketing campaign that properly represents the films so I can make informed decisions.

I agree with this, it will definitely hurt the movie's opening if they continue hiding so much of the film's visuals. But if they deliver a movie as good as Inception, it will still find a good audience. Despite a huge marketing campaign, Inception still made the vast majority of its money through word of mouth.

watched the trailer.

what are the chances that Cooper would have kids if C. Nolan would wrotte this? i think zero. this looks and feels like a Spielberg movie through Nolan's eyes. i think we got very lucky. it would be very boring if Spielber would direct this.

a script written for Spielberg and then directed by Nolan with some changes? this can not fail.

i meant what i wrotte. what are the chances that Cooper in Interstellar would have kids. :) here he has conversations with them and they cry. full on spielberg mode. full on emotions

did it sound like i meant that Nolan hates kids in movies?

Well he did co-write the script.

I managed to see the trailer and I am really interested in it but like others said there's nothing in the trailer where you're really like "wow!" it just looks like a space drama with not a lot of space. Obviously we all here know it's not and the trailer was in French but still...

How much of the movie can we presume is actually set in Space.

would this be bad? :cwink:

For me? No as it's Nolan. But I can imagine any average Joe watching the trailer thinking "oh that looks ok". Not "holy cow that looks like an awesome space exploration drama type thing".

Obviously I'm purely going on visuals as we don't hear dialogue. But personally whilst I like what I could see in the trailer I think I like it mainly because I know what will be happening in it with wormholes and what have you. Whereas the people I live with who will barely even know the film will take that trailer at face value.

Yes you can say but then it will be awesome! Imagine if you're in the theater and suddenly Nolan throws all this stuff at you from nowhere!! Yeahhh ok but you still gotta get the bums in seats first.

That's where word of mouth can be very helpful. If everyone and their dog is saying, "Holy crap you have to check this out," it won't matter what the marketing material shows. The only thing a weak marketing campaign drastically hurts is the opening weekend.

That being said, we're still 6 months out and there is still another trailer to go a few months from now. For all we know they're going to unleash a ton of money shots in that final trailer.

So apparently someone on IMDB (!!!) posted (and deleted a few mins later) a comparison of the draft floating around and the shooting script with C.Nolan's changes and the big change was that -

Nolan removed the alien and robot stuff in the original draft and focused more on the time travel aspect. And then of course, there's that thing we know already where he made Murph a girl instead of a boy. He also apparently spent more time showing Tom and Murph's lives.

Obviously, I don't trust IMDB but given what we're seeing, reading, and Nolan's style, I can definitely see those changes being true.

Awww man. I wanted to see (MASSIVE SPOILERS;DON'T READ) [BLACKOUT]sarcastic robots.[/BLACKOUT]

A shame.

And by [BLACKOUT]Alien[/BLACKOUT] do they mean the[BLACKOUT] Ice creatures[/BLACKOUT]? God I hope not.
