Interstellar - Part 4

Damn, you are just here to hate aren't you? Not even trying to hide it. :funny:
I makes me absolutely resigned that not expressing ZZOOOMMMGGZZZZ thoughts is considered hate. The English language is much more various than that, the spectrum of human response is much more various than that. There is a universe between ZZOOOOMMMGGGGZZZZZ and hate.

I don't know whether you take offense at the word or not but this is purely down to the "fanboy" syndrome, an almost confounding kind of hysteria and devotion that seems to envelop certain celebrities and their work, Nolan being the first among them. It seems as though it afflicts you as well.

slumcat just discovering that Nolan uses handheld in his movies, my god, what a discovery. Handheld does not go hand in hand with low budget movies, it's an artistic choice, a lot of directors overdo it because they have no idea what they want and are lazy, others like Nolan do know.

I think we should stop expecting this film to be Inception 2.

Isn't that the hallmark of a great film maker? to boost originality through cinema.

Inception was a summer film, this is coming out in November. Big budget or not, this is going to be different.

I must definitely disagree. :oldrazz:
Would you say Nolan's movies are generally considered moving or emotional?

I would say he has tried that aspect in his film but it did not actually come to fruition. I personally haven't come close to be "moved" by a Nolan film. Nor do I think that it is a generally held opinion that his films are moving or emotional.

what are they holding back? i didnt read the script.

to me it looks like this is all first act that sets up the story. isnt this a great way to tease the movie?

Yup, I was thinking the same...most of this trailer feels like Act 1 stuff. I haven't read the script either (gee, what a concept! :oldrazz:), so I have no idea.

As for times I've been moved emotionally by Nolan's films...

Bruce/Alfred stuff in BB
Angier's final speech to Bordon in The Prestige
The ending of TDK
Mal and Cobb's final scene in Inception
The whole ending of Inception
Pretty much most of TDKR, specifically Bruce/Alfred's goodbye, Bruce's rise from the pit and the entire ending

Nolan's work has a more muted emotional quality which can be an acquired taste (it was for me), but his movies most definitely have a pulse. I think Interstellar looks to be wearing its heart more on its sleeve, which I think will be a nice change. I'm expecting Kubrick meets Spielberg through a Nolan filter.

Why such a comment? Did I offend you in any way? I have only commented about the trailer and that it looks like an indie, possessing some hallmarks of indie films (which are perfectly fine films by the way, win lots of awards and the word itself is not a criticism by itself in any way).

Did I offend you?

I talked about heart here precisely because Nolan's movies, although he's one of my favorite directors, are usually kind of cold, there's emotion but it stays a bit distant imo.

This trailer shows a much more sentimental Nolan, and I like that.

@slumcat: ignorance bothers me yeah. You talk about the handheld footage like it's some low indie characteristic, not even realizing it seems that Nolan has had handheld in his movies.

I would describe his films to have a lot of heart. To me they are often about a cold world, and has a lot of tragedy, yet it feels like Nolan cares about people. I find his films often emotional and moving.

Did I state that he had not used it before? Did my comment have anything to do with whether he had used it before or not?

And do you think ignorance of cinema is not remembering every tiny detail about Nolan films acquired by watching them over and over and over?

Nolan's trailers and films are not above criticism.

I'm expecting and looking forward Interstellar but I'm not going to call a trailer brilliant or flawless because of Christopher Nolan. It's difficult for his more hardcore fans to accept it but I am never ever going to praise something Nolan related just because. Never.

I can't speak for others, but I find plenty of emotion in his films.

Bah, it's starting to get a bit tiring being a Nolan fan. I hope we can all just enjoy what this movie has to offer, rather than ending up in yet another debate on whether Nolan is good, great, bad, overrated or GOD.

I only fanboy for Scorsese, Spielberg and Edgar Wright. Though if this film works out, I might have to add Nolan to the list. :cwink:

Your post in this thread come as no surprise though as I have noticed you spend a good amount of your time pumping up your fanboy love Snyder, while using any chance you get to put the boots to Nolan.

So is this more Mission To Mars or Contact ? Mission To Mars was just about entirely in space & on another planet. Contact the best stuff in the last 20 minutes or so

I know I probably shouldn't be saying this and it might be crossing boundaries but this shall be but a singular occurrence - I heartily concur with and admire the sentiment expressed by a certain poster in this thread.

And I will leave it at that.

Agreed. I am a big Nolan fan, and while I like the trailers so far, they are far from his best and have left me a bit frustrated.

The tone of your post indicate your intent, and thus you are receiving backlash. Don't try and act all civilized when you came here to complain about the man. At least be honest.

It is unclear to me how my posts here co-relate to Snyder??

Did you gauge your above "observation" from my posts in this thread or are you responding to something else I might have posted elsewhere that you happen to vividly remember?

Outside of your words here of course, your comments in the 300 and Nolan threads would be a good start.

I actually felt that the teaser was more effective than trailer #2.

I also found it a tad strange that they didn't show more of Anne Hathaway, but I guess thats a story point Nolan's keeping under wraps.

They seem to want to avoid anything from the actual mission, outside of the usual. It is frustrating imo, as it limits the scope of the trailer.

I'm imagining Zimmer's score from Trailer 1 with the some of the visuals of Trailer 2...

I like what I'm seeing/hearing in my head.

I'm surprised that there's very little talk about the cinematography. Pfister must be sweating bullets now. It won't be that easy anymore to go back to Nolan now that he has worked with yet another great cinematographer. :p

:lmao:

Well, it is definitely prettier then Transcendence. :hehe:

Yeah, after the epic score of the teaser... the music in this was pretty underwhelming.
