I think Nolan can afford to have a bomb at this point. I mean, if M. Night Shyamalan, after all his bombs, is still getting to direct big-budget Will Smith starring vehicles, then pretty sure Nolan is secure enough in his standing in Hollywood that he can take some calculated risks that may or may not pay off.
Let's not forget that Alan Horn over at Disney is probably chomping at the bit to bring him over. He's got a huge bargaining chip in his corner there, as well as options.
