Who are you quoting thegameq?
Not you StylishHokie21 -- Love that screen name, it makes me giggle--or anyone in particular.
It's a bit of sarcasm aimed at the small consensus that DB:E will actually be something special. People who are optimistic about DB:E are missing the main sticking points (besides faithfullness) that got so many people in an uproar.
The film looks cheap. The film looks like another American wannabe kung fu flick with a white guy in the lead to sell more tickets. Note: it's not about the race as much as it is about the principal.
DB should be a quirky fantasy film that would attract both kids and adults--but mainly an audience that likes such films, i.e., more than likely, not everyone. If Fox wanted a property that would attact and appeal to general audiences they should have chosen a property with more mainstream appeal rather than trying to shoehorn DB into a package for mainstream audiences.
The blue print for this film was Kung Fu Hustle - all they had to do was follow that films lead.
Look no one can truely argue with someone for being optimistic, but why just accept it? Inarguably, based on what we've seen, this is a very disappointing and lackluster adaptation of DB. As has been said time and time again when it comes to trying to adapt rich fantasy based material to the big screen:
"If you're not going to do it right, don't do it at all."
The notion of trying to make a "serious" film out of DB is like trying to take a property like the Flintstones and trying to make a serious film out of it. DB is absurd and quirky, so why try to pry it into something it isn't?
Perhaps the biggest tide against this film is the same tide that causes other lackluster fantasy films to stick out like a sore thumb. The obvious, inevitable and justly comparison to the better or greater films in the genre.
Fans have seen the better fantasy films and what can truly be done with fantasy properties when the people involved truly care about their craft and product and aren't in it mostly for the money. The difference between the two is almost night and day. Pick any of the high profile fantasy film properties of this generation and compare them to what we've seen from DB. Yeah, I know, it might not seem fair considering the film isn't out yet. But come on, do you really need to see **** even though you an smell it?
Come on, honestly, tell me this film is going to be something great and special on screen...
All the fans really ever want is for the people making these films to care about the product --while they probably won't care as much as the fans--the fans just want them to care enough to put forth a great effort, rather than making their ulterior motives so blatantly obvious.
