James Bond In Skyfall - Part 10

Looks like Dark Raven has been proven wrong. It seems it is largely possible to get the Dalton-style pose in an actual gunbarrel.

I am genuinely hoping to be proven wrong, but I'm just saying that it's possible that those shots might be for a publicity still and not the actual gunbarrel walk at the start of the movie. I hope Craig can assume that position, but it definitely looks hard and somewhat awkward to get into, and interesting that even Dalton himself didn't shoot his own gunbarrel with that pose. It seems like it would be a very self-conscious, somewhat unnatural walk if Craig does achieve it, because he'd have to be thinking very hard about where he's going to place his foot, how he's going to spin etc.

So I listened to it just now for the first time. Gave in. And... I think it is awesome! Very well done.

You you really think they put that much thought into it? Or is it the case that the film it several times and Craig just strikes a pose?

This song, I like it!

I'm sure they do put a lot of thought into it. Its pretty iconic. I don't know how thorough they are, but I'm sure they don't just say "strike a few poses and we'll pick one."

Like I'm sure its all coordinated and blocked and such, but I just doubt they analyze the entire history of the gunbarrel as forum posters, myself included often do.

I wouldn't say she can't sing either, because she clearly can. But I do think she needs better diction. Maybe she does have it, but it needs to be crisper. Perhaps she does pronounce the ends of her words, but they just get lost with all the instrumentation, so she needs to make it sound more distinct.

It really does sound like Skyfow, Crumbows etc. Or maybe Skyfaux? That's all I can hear now.

And I agree she should've belted it towards the end like Shirley Bassey. She tends to sing that song pretty much on the same level throughout and needs more dynamics.

I like Adele but I'll admit her dictation is 'loose'. It doesn't bother me though but I do notice it:

Like with words like 'again', 'moment', 'them', 'apart' and 'stolen'. Or 'zah' instead of 'at'. But hey what is art? If Cormac McCarthy can write without punuations, Adele's fine.

I really like Adele's song. Big step up from Quantum of Solace's.

Great point haha.:funny:

the new clip is awesome! classic Bond right there

and i'm no fan of Adele, but her song for Skyfall is actually really good

Watching Goldfinger last night in my marathon/retrospective, I was reminded of how they were going to do On Her Majesty's Secret Service after it initially. I can't imagine how that would have gone - after the success of Goldfinger, and that movie establishing the tone that most Bond movies thereafter would emulate (sophisticated yet lowbrow, elegant yet juvenile, tongue-in-cheek and self-aware without falling into full-blown camp), I can't see On Her Majesty's Secret Service coming after Goldfinger. Either they would have changed OHMSS too much or the shock of the tonal change would have been too much at that point. They were going to do OHMSS after Thunderball as well, and everything I just said holds true there as well. They did OHMSS at the right time (still would've been better or at least more interesting with Connery).

About the recently released Blu-Ray discs due to the 50 anniversary (Amazon.com is selling some of the titles separatelty), is there any difference from the transfers of the Blu-Ray discs that were released some years ago? Let's say a difference in quality?

Has anybody seen the Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007 Documentary?

So I've been sitting and listening to all the 23 songs now and have tried to rank them. I've seperated them into three groups: 007-tier for the best ones, Henchmen-tier for the ones I think are just good Bond songs that gets the job done. And the Felix Leiter-tier whith the ones that I dont like. In their respective groups they can change position depending on mood and such, but for the sake of argument this is how I rank them (from best to worst)

007-tier:
"A View to a Kill" Duran Duran
"For Your Eyes Only" Sheena Easton
"GoldenEye" Tina Turner
"You Know My Name" Chris Cornell
"The Living Daylights" a-ha
"You Only Live Twice" Nancy Sinatra
"Goldfinger" Shirley Bassey
"Skyfall" Adele
"The James Bond Theme" Monty Norman

Henchmen-tier
"The Man with the Golden Gun" Lulu
"Thunderball" Tom Jones
"Licence to Kill" Gladys Knight
"Die Another Day" Madonna
"Live and Let Die" Paul McCartney & Wings
"Diamonds Are Forever" Shirley Bassey
"From Russia With Love" Matt Munro
"The World Is Not Enough" Garbage

Felix Leiter-tier
"Tomorrow Never Dies" Sheryl Crow
"We Have All the Time in the World" Louis Armstrong (FRWL)
"Nobody Does It Better" Carly Simon (TSWLM)
"Another Way to Die" Jack White feat. Alicia Keys
"All-Time High" Rita Coolidge (OP)
"Moonraker" Shirley Bassey

"We Have all the Time in the World" is great, but it isn't the title song for OHMSS.

I have to agree, the theme for On Her Majesty's Secret Service is phenomenal. It also has a pretty sweet opening title sequence to go with it. Granted, the execution is as not perfect, but the and timeless looking as some of the earlier titles, but the martini glass and naked ladies coat of arms as the title appears is so awesome.

Yep, the titles are pretty great.

I can. They had the best moment at 17. :o

No way is Die Another Day stuck in Henchmen. It's Felix.

Just listened to Adele's interview with Jonathan Ross. I had never heard her speak before. Now that I have, it makes sense why she sings the chorus "Let this Skyfow, When it crumbows, we will stand taw face it aw together..."

It's because she speaks in a cockney accent!!!

And she still sings sometimes in a cockney accent - that's why her diction is so poor, because cockney people don't pronounce the end of their words or certain letters in the words properly.

So she would basically speak like this: "Aww yeh, oim goin' to be doin' the thehme faw Skyfawl. An' this Appowl crumbow is blahdy good innit? I'm 'avin' it aw to mysehwlf"

So the "L" on the end of Skyfawl is almost silent, which is why you get Skyfaw (or Skyfow).

I suspected she might be cockney after hearing the song a few times, because who else would pronounce it that way?

Went to Wal-Mart and bought GoldenEye on Blu-Ray. Watching it right now as we speak!

Did she end the interview with "Tally-hooooo!"?
