James Bond In Skyfall - - - - - Part 14

Maybe someone who has a bit of a background in action as well as drama perhaps this time?

I felt mendes' action pieces underwhelming.

I thought the intro was really great!

I wouldn't say his action sequences are underwhelming but Skyfall is more of a character piece. It's more about suspense than biffo.

I still think it's a shame Danny Boyle doesn't want to direct a Bond film. He's great at action, he's great at story telling and he's very in touch with the British psyche.

Oh well.

I thought the action scenes were imaginative with Mendes' direction. They were clear and ambitious especially the opening scenes. I think though, the pacing of the action was strangely slow despite the franticness of what's happening on the screen. I don't know.

But Skyfall's best action scene was the hand-to-hand fight with Bond and Patrice. That was just amazing and beautiful.

Better than QoS.

Yeah he would be great, he is the director of my favorite Bond film (CR). I don't know if he'd want to come back a 3rd time though?

He seems to be the man who comes in only when there's a new bond actor arriving.

I think if you can get the right mix of CR with Skyfall that would be brilliant.

Campbell doesn't mind doing more than 1 Bond flicks, he just doesn't want to do 2 in a row.

Exactly. He said he would have been happy to have done another during the Brosnan era but was never asked after he needed a break for TND.

I'm fairly sure if Babs and Michael asked him he'd agree to it.

I don't really like the idea of constantly going back to Martin Campbell. There must be lots of awesome directors out there who want to make a Bond film! Let's give them a go!

Agreed. Casino Royale is one of my favorite Bond films but I still would like to see another director get a shot at this. Just look at what we got with Mendes (one of the best Bond films ever in my humble view).

Here's to fresh blood.

Hey how old do you think Judi Dench's M would have been when she first joined the service? I assume she would have been an agent first and then rose through the ranks.

Would she have been World War II era or Cold War era? Almost worth a movie in itself...

In skyfall she said she was never a great shot so i doubt she was a field agent. Also she's nowhere near old enough to have been a WW2 agent assuming she's Judy Dench's real age.

In goldeneye she talked about missing the cold war so assuming reboot M is the same age i'd say she probably joined in the early-mid 60's and probably early to mid 30's when she joined.

She might not have been an 00 agent though. She might have worked surveillance.

Hmm, yeah it makes sense she was around for the Cold War. That would have been interesting.

It was CR where she said she missed the cold war. As for her character in the Brosnan era, all we know is, she's a law and accounting graduate.

Judi Dench's M in the Brosnan era is totally not the same as Judi Dench's M in the Craig era. Despite being Judy Dench.

I agree with the exception of the opening, which I thought was a great action sequence.

Ah you're right i believe she called bond a "relic of the cold war" in GE. Also on the subject of Brosnan M vs Craig M. I agree they are arguably not the exact same characters but i feel they would share many of the same characteristics and perhaps background.

I don't feel dench really changed her M characterization between bonds.

That was a strange inconsistency, wasn't it? I think M should have occasionally broken the fourth wall- for instance, by lowering her sunglasses when Craig waded out of the sea in his micro-trunks, and saying "we didn't get THAT with the last fellow!" to the camera.

Damn. And I was deadly serious, too. :(

Oh no I hate when Bond films break the fourth wall. It was dreadful when Lazenby did it. That really started his reign off on a bad foot and it didn't get better.

I don't know if it could have gotten worst than Q's "we don't really go in for that anymore" when bringing up exploding pens. I could have sworn he practically turned and winked to the camera.

That was definitely up there will lazenby's "the other fellow" moment.

Eh, actual spy gadgets were used.

The Lazenby quote though just feeds ridiculous codename conspiracies.

They need to have a JB movie with Dolph Lundgren as the villain and full penetration.

That would have been incredibly cheesy.

Then you get those who start screaming about Bond being a codename and all that garbage.

Skyfall had those wink-wink moments too though. Bond threatening to use the ejector seat in the car comes to mind.

Skyfall had far too many of them, IMHO.
