James Bond In Skyfall - Part 3

So now that we have our 'Q', your thoughts.

I would have prefer him to be older than 007, as Q has traditionally always been the disapproving father type figure for Bond's careless, reckless and unorthodox ways. Bond being scolded by a younger guy might seem odd...if they go that route.

I just hope they don't make this Q a silly gadget side kick character as they did with Angelina Jolie's 'Techy' in Tomb Raider

As long as he can deliver "Do try to bring it back in one piece this time, 007," I'll be happy.

2 things.

Q - Ok, so he's now in the movie. Great, I just hope it doesnt get silly again. I always found it funny that A character that hardly appeared in the books became such a big deal. Eithe3r way, I hope they keep the tech closer to reality. Like when Gardner was writing the books everything he used was real, he even went to great lenghtths with research to make sure. So the question is, which Q are we gettting? Fleming's Major Boothroyd? Gardner's Ann Reilley (Q'ute). Deaver's Hilrani ... who seems to fit close with this, younger guy than Bond, really cool guy, Indian.

Die Another Day - As a few mentioned, it started strong. They fit lots of references to all the previous movies as well as all the novels in there. If you know what to look for you'll see them all. I also liked Bond holding "Birds Of The West Indies by James Bond" since it is his namesake. The movie's failing was that they tried to smash Colonel Sun into Icebreaker because what's better than adapting one book? Adapting 2 at once! They changed the literary Colonel Sun into Colonel Moon, they eliminated the kidnapping of M (which showed up in the next movie) they took out the neo-nazi villains from Icebreaker and gave their plan and base to the guy who Kidnapped M ... only who didn't kidnap M all off A sudden.

I think Ben Wishaw as Q is kind of inspired casting. He'll be brilliant.

Wow, I did not expect this. I was pretty indifferent about the idea of Q coming back - I've always liked the character, even when the gadgets themselves were forced/obligatory or the wrong kind of ridiculous - but I didn't (don't) know if he'll fit in with the Daniel Craig Bonds. We'll see about that, but I like the idea of a young Quartermaster, and Ben Whishaw seems like great casting for that.

I think we should set aside any familiarities we've had with the Q character and think about the positives of them changing it. I mean Felix Leiter wasn't black before CR. Times are changing anyway. We all love the original Q but that doesn't mean he needs to stay an older man. We're so used to the traditional and familiar aspects of Bond we sometimes forget to embrace the potential good of change. It's part of the down side of the Bond formula. Honestly, is there anything wrong with making him younger other than the fact we haven't seen it before and are used to an older Q? That's about the only thing that stands in the way of being open to this kind of stuff.

Female M
Black Felix Leiter
Young Q

What's next..... Fat Moneypenny? :awesome:

I approve of this casting, though.

Well, he was in Never Say Never Again (where he was played by Bernie Casey).

Not in continuity. :awesome:

Nevertheless, there wasn't a female M before Judie Dench. That was a huge change. Bigger than a younger Q.

It makes sense for Q to be younger in the digital age. And it also means he can hang around for a lengthy stint. I doubt anyone will rival Desmond's run, but you get what I mean. I think they will re-invent the dynamic. A young Q really into his work, and the gritty Craig Bond telling him to get on with it. Could be fun.

Let's remember that any James Bond film made before Casino Royale has no relvence to the series anymore. This Is really Bond 3 and not Bond 23.This Is what happens when you reboot.Nothing that happened before matters anymore.

For all the talk of Skyfall being a tradional Bond film nothing so far points to that.EON said at Press conference contuning the direction with films started with Casino ROyale which doesn't scream out classic Bond films.Q's only connection to the classic Q may be
name and the fact he Is In chage of equipment.Just Like M's only connection to M of novels and earlier films Is title M.

2012 may be 50th annivarsy of DR NO's release but because of reboot they can't do anything In Skyfall to connect to earlier films. In less they are calling back to Casino Royale and QOS.

well with this bond being more realistic in character and actions. They will probably make it be more logical/real type of spy weapons then laser and invisible cars and all that stuff.

Inspired and smart choice. I can give or take the gadgets, but I have always liked the interactions between 007 and Q.

She'll probably be played by an unknown actress, but I'd love to see Emily Blunt get the role.

They haven't casted Moneypenny have they?
I actually think Helen Mcrory, who has joined the cast, will play Moneypenny - and Harris will be Eve, not Eve Moneypenny.

Here's Helen:

To be fair, Felix Leiter was never a consistent character. Q, on the other hand, was the same for nearly 40 years. As long as Ben Whishaw gives Bond a hard time about his treatment of gadgets, everything will be fine. But if he's just gonna be a nerdy kid, then they ruined the character.

She does looks quite Moneypennyish. Is she a British actress? Lois Maxwell was Canadian. I don't know why ever since her they've cast a British actress?

Raplph Fiennes as the new M
Albert Finney as the new Monnepenny.

Not a huge fan of kiddie Q.
Matt Smith copped flack for his age, and he plays a 900 year plus Time Lord. He pulled it off. Let's wait and see how Wishaw does, eh? :yay:

Cleese's version didn't really distinguish itself. I for one like that that this young casting hints we won't get a repeat of the Desmond Q routine. As said, I expect it to be reversed. Craig Bond being the impatient one.

And Dark Raven, yes Mcrory is British. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helen_McCrory

I see Mcrory is 43. I would like a younger Moneypenny like Lois Maxwell was in Dr No. Samantha Bond seems to be the one who instituted the more mature Moneypenny, based on Lois Maxwell's later years (where she was naturally older).
