James Bond In Skyfall - Part 3

Matt Smith copped flack for his age, and he plays a 900 year plus Time Lord. He pulled it off. Let's wait and see how Wishaw does, eh? :yay:

Cleese's version didn't really distinguish itself. I for one like that that this young casting hints we won't get a repeat of the Desmond Q routine. As said, I expect it to be reversed. Craig Bond being the impatient one.

I'm not sure who Matt Smith is but I'm guessing the Time lord stuff is something to do with Doctor Who?

The thing is one of the charms of the old Q/Bond dynamic was the advice and wisdom Q would try to pass on to the reckless Bond. I never cared much for Cleese in the role, however a guy that looks 18 trying to be anything other than comic relief to Craig's hardened Bond wont work IMO, and I'm really not interested in Bond doing the whole "I don't understand this tech" shtick while a kid marvels him with his Xbox generation speak, I don't think it fits the tone established for the new Bond.

So... You dont want a comif relief Q, but you dont want him to NOT be a comic relief Q?

I think he will be quirky. Though maybe not a full on comedy character. I hope he's more like the tech guys in Spooks than Desmond 's Q. Not slagging off Desmond here. He's the best. But I think it's time to go off in a fresh direction, instead of trying to imitate the master at his own game. A young person who knows what he's doing with technology. Not bothered about wanting his equipment back in one piece, etc. In any case I'm glad the character is coming back and look forward to what's in store.

So is Daniel Craig. They're age appropriate. :cwink:

What would be cool one day is having a Moneypenny who is just as hot or hotter than the Bond girls (who hides behind a dressed down visage), but somehow Bond always manages to overlook her, as he can't see what is in front of him.

I actually think Helen Mcrory, who has joined the cast, will play Moneypenny - and Harris will be Eve, not Eve Moneypenny.

Here's Helen:

Its funny that half the cast and crew Daniel Craig has already done films with. Helen McCrory was in 'Flashbacks Of A Fool' with Craig.

I mostly remember her as Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies and Rosanna Calvierri from Doctor Who episode Vampires In Venice.

That's not what I said, I said the only way he can work is as a comic relief Q and that I don't think a comic relief Q fits the tone of the Craig movies. What I was clearly saying was; is that I don't think he's a good choice.

Yeah. Speaking of which the new Q shoots Craig at the end of Layer Cake!

Ah I see, ok then. But why cant Q work as a serious character?

Not that The Sun should ever be taken seriously, but they do have this quote:
The Sun said:
"His role will be very different from previous Qs. He'll be far more serious, as is the trend with the new films."

He can but not by an actor who looks like a college kid. He's supposed to be the head of a classified department in the British secret service. I think you need an older man to make that role work in a serious fashion.

I imagine this Q might be a more talented but more junior technician. I can imagine him being the guy at Q-branch who is willing to ignore the bureaucracy and the hierarchy in order to help Bond in the field.

Hmm that could be their angle. Building a character up, and promoting him to the head job at a later date? It's a very specific and deliberate casting here, so it's obviously been thought out.

They guy is early 30s and for all we know they can go and make him a enginering prodigy from a young age.

This. Q essense has always been somewhat of a father figure to Bond. Disappoving, yet at the same time there's a bond between them. And like you said, he's sopposed to be head of 'Q' branch. I assume they're changing that now....

...a serious younger guy, who's more serious than Craigs Bond.....won't work. I can see them making him like Oswald Patton's Techy character in Blade Trinity.

I can imagine Q being a maverick technician in the same way that 007 is a maverick field agent. It has been hinted that MI6 will come under attack; if it is infiltrated, then perhaps 007, Q and M may act as a secret service within the secret service.

What I would give for Cynthia Harrel to do the opening theme for Skyfall. It would be incredible and make the movie that much better.

MGS3: Snake Eater opening for a taste:

Casino Royales theme was really good but QoS was mediocre at best so I hope they go back to that classic flavor and do something akin to this MGS3 opening which sounded a lot more like a Bond opening than the one from QoS to be honest.

A lot of people are acting like Ben Whishaw is so young that he's still wearing diapers. He may be younger than Desmond Llewelyn and even Daniel Craig, but to put it in a different perspective, he's the same age Sean Connery was in Dr. No and older than George Lazenby was in OHMSS. Not exactly ridiculously young.

I've been fine without Q returning, the character was so specifically Llewelyn. So if they had to bring the character back, I wouldn't want it to be a copy of what Llewelyn did. A 31-year-old Q can certainly work in a different way, but there have been a lot of young Q-types in things recently (Simon Pegg in M:I, Marshall on Alias, the guy in XXX), so it'll be interesting to see how he can stand out from all others.

Yes but both the guy in XXX and Pegg were/will be comic relief geeks i.e Jolie's Tomb Raider tech....i don't watch Alias.

Not bad, but personally I'm hoping for either Adelle or Muse to do the theme.

Was hoping for an old, sarcastic Q but we will see.

Adelle and Muse would be far more likely seeing as they usually pick relatively big name singers for this kind of stuff. Cynthia Harrel on that basis alone wouldn't get the job unfortunately.

Although if I had to pick between Adelle and Muse I'd go for Adelle. She would be incredible actually and give us one hell of an opening, I just hope they do something that sounds like more classic Bond instead of what we got in QoS.

Its not even that Another Way To Die was a bad song necessarily but it just didn't work for me for some reason. Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" was just leagues better which made it harder for me to like QoS theme I guess.

"Another Way to Die" would have been passable if Alicia Keys had been unencumbered with Jack White. They made a dreary duo.

I'm sure this has been said before but I think Adele would make a good opening theme for James Bond.
