James Bond In Skyfall - Part 3

As someone who has been watching Bond movies for 15 years, I'll be satisfied as long as the film is good and entertaining. I don't need "Skyfall" to be better or worse than the others.

I want traditional Bond music during chase scenes.

that's about my only demand.

It's completely pointless to adapt the novels again. The books were about the cold war. If they adapted the novels now, they wouldn't be able to use any of the material. Look at Casino Royal for example. There's maybe like 5% of the book in that movie. As someone said earlier, what makes this franchise so special is it's history. Next year is the 50th anniversary of this series. And each film, both the good and bad ones, capture a piece of world history. It's a time capsule.

I'm aware what the books were about and I'm aware times have changed but that hasn't stopped other stories being adapted into a modern setting. Sorry, I don't consider it a proper reboot unless Flemings novels are once again open to being adapted. I'm not talking about remaking the films, I'm talking new adaptations of the novels.

Well seeing as DAD was neither good nor entertaining, it needs to be better than that. Same with QOS. I don't think anyone wants Skyfall to be worse than any others. I'm sure no-one is saying "I hope Skyfall is the worst Bond movie yet!"

All the Bond films are entertaining in one way or another. "Die Another Day" had a pretty decent pre-title sequence. Bond being tortured, exchanged, and then escaping the hospital was pretty good. So, regardless of how bad it was, it still had a good 20 minutes of solid entertainment.

Other than From Russia With Love and Blofeld's plot in You Only Live Twice, none of the 60s movies had to do with the cold war directly.

I'm against any of the films being remade, but I think what makes Bond appealling is that he is a constantly contemporary character.

Well, it's still appropriate to say that I hope Skyfall will be better than that. It's not unreasonable to expect more than 20 minutes of decent entertainment from a Bond movie.

I agree, DR.

I also agree that all the Bond films, except Man With the Golden Gun, are entertaining.

My point was that everyone here seems to focused on whether or not "Skyfall" will better than "Quantum of Solace." Or if it'll match the standards of "Casino Royale." For me, I'll be happy as long as the movie is good.

Well considering that QOS was a disappointment for many, it's not surprising that people want Skyfall to be better than that. If it's worse or the same as QOS, then a lot of people won't think Skyfall is "good" and won't be happy. It's not really about trying to compete with other movies in the series such as CR. It's about having a certain level of decency, which many felt that QOS fell far below. The reason people cite CR is not because it is the yardstick, but just that it was the last and most recent decent Bond film, and also part of Craig's run, so yes, people will look to that.

Update #6 of my James Marathond

The Man With The Golden Gun.
I think this movie worked to a certain point. I think the idea of someone admiring Bond and going after him was actually interesting, but it didn't play out as I would've imagined.
In between the lack of characters, some terrible character decisions (James Bond actually slapping a lady, or throwing a kid off the canoe), and other lame plot devices, I just got lost.
The chases are getting a little bit better as the time and the franchise go by, but it just doesn't make up for the rest of it.

The Spy Who Loved Me tonight. Hope is a little bit better than this.

It's not just a little better. It's miles ahead of TMWTGG. It's probably Moore's best entry and one of the best Bond movies. It certainly is one of the most iconic films in the series.

Oh good!!
Yeah, I've been reading the topic and I've seen the movie in many users' top 10.

Yeah, I don't want CR to become Craig's Goldeneye; I want him to make another Bond film that is as great or even better than CR.

I think what they really just need is completely new writers. Why are Purvis and Wade writing every Bond movie from the 90's on? Let some other guys give it a try. Completely.

I honestly think they should've been fired after Die Another Day. Maybe not fired but I mean like, "You guys had your turn, time to get some new vision and blood injected into this."

I still think For Your Eyes Only is his best one, it's the only time he played Bond a someone who killed because it's his job, not as someone who didn't like killing.

I agree. Even after TWINE they should've gone. I'm bored of them already. They have a Brosnan-generic feel about them.

He does that in The Spy Who Loved Me too. "What a helpful chap."

Yeah. He didn't have to swat his tie out of that villain's hand. He did that in cold blood when the guy had outlived his usefulness.

Just an update on what I said before and regarding John Logan being added as as screenwriter for SkyFall.

I fully expect SkyFall to be a much better overall film than QOS and I wouldn't be surprised if it winds up being one of the best Bond films after it is all said and done.

We have a very solid director like Mendes running the show, and they have had plenty of time to polish the story and script, BRINGING IN JOHN LOGAN to help write the script and polish it can only be viewed as a positive move IMO.

Plus we get to see Craig go toe to toe with other great actors like Bardem and Fiennes! :word:

I...don't know how I feel about Bond's new scruff look. Though I know I'd previously wondered what it would be like.

I don't mind the scruff look, because I'm sure he will only have the scruff look for maybe a quarter of the film, if not less.

Bond could very well have scruff look for most of the film.Although both Danial Craig and Sam Mendes have called Skyfall tradional Bond I saw video of Michael Wilson at Press launch for Skyfall saying they were contuning the road they started out with when they did Casino Royale hinting at contuning the Jason Bourne Influended Bond films.

The Spy Who Loved Me
Well, that was actually pretty good!. And overall a better movie in many aspects, even the final act was top notch. Slowly the scope and the tone of the movies are starting to get a little bit more... blockbustery.
I think Bond was very good, his lines were more reminiscent (and consistent) of the first Connery movies.
On a side/personal note, I liked the nearly-disco soundtrack. It's my kind of thing. It may not be suitable for a Bond movie, but I liked it anyway.

Moonraker later tonight if I don't get sleepy (James Bond in space??)
