What's with having all these Milfy Moneypennys? They ought to make her young again like in Dr No. She should be a saucy secretary who is a credible flirtatious encounter with Bond, not someone he must humour in case he's accused of ageism.

You forgot Caroline Bliss, she was 26 when got cast as Moneypenny for TLD, should've been 28 at max for her almost cameo appearece in LTK, that was quite a young Moneypenny at the time.

"Another Way to Die" would have been passable if Alicia Keys had been unencumbered with Jack White. They made a dreary duo.

I agree. Without crack Jack, its actually a good song as evidenced here:

[YT]L-UNKqDGfTM[/YT]

Alicia Keys KILLS it! It should've been just her doing the song as a solo to begin with instead of the lame duet we got.

Re: Q

Another thing I forgot to mention, had they stuck with old man Q, Michael Gambon would've been great!

As said, I expect it to be reversed. Craig Bond being the impatient one.

That'll probably be the case. Bond already gives M the "Yeah, whatever." attitude.

I'm still with the Bill Nighy camp for Q. Have been for years.

I haven't forgotten her. I did say in an earlier post that Samantha Bond brought in the more mature Moneypenny from the outset, making everyone think in those terms. Yes, Caroline Bliss was a little too young and a departure from the established image (being blonde instead of brunette/ auburn). I don't mind a Moneypenny in her late 20s, but prefer her to be dark haired not blonde. Caroline seems more of a Molly Warmflash type than Moneypenny.

I actually quite like 'Another Way to Die' but that video of just Alicia Keys doing it is waaaay better

Then again I really like QoS and thing Craig gives a really good subtle performance of Bond slowly coming to terms with Vespers death (or Im reading way too much into it) I think it works really well as the 3rd act to casino royale

2 things.

Q - Ok, so he's now in the movie. Great, I just hope it doesnt get silly again. I always found it funny that A character that hardly appeared in the books became such a big deal. Either way, I hope they keep the tech closer to reality.

I did like the defibrillator and gun in the Aston Martin.

For Craig's bond that should be the limit for gadgets in his car. No rockets or submarine mode.

Q might give Bond's Sony Ericsson phone an app or something :)

Speaking of the phone Bond sure did use it alot in the last two movies.

The phone practically led him to certain spots!

When Jack and Alicia hit the high notes it sounds REALLY BAD

I'm sure people complained even more when M was cast as a woman. If this place existed in the early 90's there would have been an outcry. Honestly, what's the big deal with a younger Q? These days it would be more appropriate for the younger set to be more tech savvy anyway.

I can see the concern with the whole annoying techie comic relief thing, which is valid. But I think the change makes sense and could even shed new light on the character. Why is change such a bad thing for people?

As stated, age is a part of the character. Beyond that, just because it "makes sense," doesn't mean it must be changed. This whole "realism," trend in sci-fi/fantasy movies annoys the piss outta me.

It's a shame people see the new M as female/male rather than as "Woo! Judi Dench FTW!"

She's such an awesome talent, she more than deserves the role. Her gender really isn't that important except that it makes Bond seem like less of a sexual predator and that he's capable of talking to a woman without thinking of her as a sex toy.

Moving on though, I'm so excited for the new Q because I was a little worried after "Quantum of Solace" that the producers weren't real Bond fans and were trying to take the Bond elements out of it (like removing "the names Bond, James Bond"). The fact that they put a classic Bond character in this time makes me very happy.

The same producers who have been involved with the series for most of their lives suddenly not Bond fans?

I don't understand why some are so hung up on having certain lines in every film. QOS wasn't the first movie to not have "Bond, James Bond" in it. Roger Moore never said "Shaken, not stirred" himself in any of his movies. But if a movie leaves them out now, it's reason to freak out.

Point taken. Caroline Bliss was also the only Moneypenny to wear glasses, if I am not mistaken.

By the way I am almost halfway through TWINE and I am liking it a bit more than I remember (it's been ages since I last wacthed it). I guess it helps Denisse Richard's character comes up later onto the film, and what a thing of beauty Elektra King is .

I think they gave Caroline Bliss glasses to try to make her not be overly attractive and to seem more brainy/ geeky. As I said, she is more of a Molly Warmflash type who could be someone with whom Bond might realistically have a sexual encounter than a Moneypenny type. She could easily have played a background MI6 character (like Warmflash) who ends up in bed with Bond. I think she also starred as Princess Diana in a TV movie and she does have that kind of posh English girl feel. Actually Serena Scott Thomas, who played Molly Warmflash, also played as Princess Diana in a different TV movie, confirming how similar she and Bliss both are.

It's kinda fitting that M would be a woman. The Bond character doesn't respect women (although his three loves were Vesper Lynd, Tiffany Case, and Tracy Draco) so having one be in charge of him would give 007 more reason to be an assh*le although had the sexist Ian Fleming still been alivr when Goldeneye was being made, he probably would've had a heart attack seeing Judi Dench in the role. :oldrazz:

Deaver's Carte Blanch has Bond using his IQ-Phone quite a bit. It's filled with all kinds of great spy and intelligence gathering stuff. But still not too far from what one can reasonably expect to do with his own smartphone.

The Englishman - Bond's still a Commander. Still ex-Navy, nothing has changed, and why would it? They just changed the birth date from the 30's to the late 70's.

Moneypenny has been a largely pointless character since the `70s. The reason Lois Maxwell worked so well in the `60s was because of her great chemistry with Sean Connery. If they can't find an actress who can go toe-to-toe with Daniel Craig, then they shouldn't really bother with the character.

But Tiffany Case is a nobody to Bond in the movies. She's just another Bond girl, and hardly has the same significance as either Vesper Lynd or Tracy. You can't really go by the books, because there isn't a female M in the original Fleming novels. He didn't particularly respect Jill St John's Tiffany.

I guess M being a male was apart of the character too. Look, I'm a strong advocate for fun in movies and of this genre, I like Die Another Day for God sake, but this change isn't a bad thing. I like the idea of an older man giving Bond gadgets, but what's wrong with a younger man doing it too? We're just so used to an older Q. And as chickenscratch has mentioned, he was never really a major part of the books anyway. M's change of being a female is a much bigger departure. And that turned out fine. Times are changing. Hell, I want something new. I prefer this diea to casting yet another older actor. A black Moneypenny wasn't a bad idea either when Harris was rumored for the part. It has nothing to do with realism, it's the times are changing is all. Taking "what makes sense" out of the equation, it's a change and that isn't a bad thing.

I agree, to a degree but if M had been younger than Bond.....? The fact that she was a woman is still quite fitting, seeing as how woman are vastly taking over the workforce, compared to when Bond first appeared in the '60s.

I think age is a very crucial part of the Q character. Unless he's Q in name only, i can't see the same dynamic working. The Q of the past seemed to be one of the few ppl Bond truly looked up too, and respected. He was one of the few ppl that actually put Bond in his place. He had been there, and done that, so was in the position to lecture Bond like a rebellious teengaer. Age was crucial.

In that interpretation, but why not have a new one? Another that could work just as well? If they pull it off, I don't see the big deal. That was a different Q, this is a new one.

The fact is, we haven't seen it yet. It's fine to have an opinion, but I wouldn't dismiss it because we are holding onto what we are so used to. If Q had been younger than Bond in the other films, I'm sure people wouldn't be complaining. Though it wouldn't make much sense, given back then, a younger man telling an older man what to do wouldn't make much sense. But today, it's easier to imagine.

Who knows what this dynamic could cook up. It's interesting and fresh and there's nothing wrong with that.

To me I see the same scenario as this. Why the hell would Bond be listening to this younger man giving him these gadgets? That's interesting. We're fine with Dench as M because we are used to it and she's fit into the role fine, but let's wait to see how this guy does with Q. Why can't Q change in age while M changes in sex?

Hunter Rider just curious but are you English?

Yes but apart from football and my DVD set of Only Fools & Horses I don't watch any UK TV now that Midsommer Murders and Lewis have started to go down hill, the former actually plunged off a cliff.

I didn't think you were English, especially always being up to date with all the latest American shows, unless you watch off the internet or are actually based in the US. I don't watch really any UK TV shows either, but then I never really have except for the very odd show here and there over the years, but they are few and far between.

i'm fine with a younger q, makes sense, and could be a fun, new dynamic between the two.

Has anyone brought up the possibility that Whishaw's Q won't be a gadgetmaster at all? Young skinny guy like that, maybe he's a computer guy? That's something Craigbond could actually use. Craigbond doesn't need gadgets. He can kill you with his spit. :woot:

That's a fair point. M exists now for plot exposition purposes, as (s)he always did, but I think that Dench has become a bit...stale in the role.

1) Agree totally.

2) Aren't backing dancers embarrassing?

My choice for Bond.

Next-James-Bond_Michael-Fassbender.jpg

Only if Steve McQueen directs. He has to. Ever since I saw Hunger back in 2008 I thought he should do a Bond movie. Oddly enough, I didn't think of Fassbender as Bond.
