James Bond In Skyfall - Part 5

As I said the first time I saw her, Berenice Marlohe is the new Monica Belluci, the kinda woman that makes you believe in love at first sight! :funny:

The new Bond girl looks like a less attractive/beautiful version of Olga Kurylenko. A step back in the looks and talent of the last two lead Bond girls.

She looks different to Olga. I don't know that she's less beautiful. The problem with Olga is that she was such a beautiful Bond girl wasted on what was a rather mediocre film. She didn't even do anything sexy like take off her clothes or dress very provocatively. There wasn't even any love scene with Bond. It would've been better to save Olga for a more classic Bond film.

Well to be fair, everything was misused in QoS. Since the crew had to write certain scenes on the spot I cant imagine they werent aware of the possible outcome. If there is one Bond film I would want a remake of it certanily is QoS. It has such a great potential but I like to think it had two things going against it, the first being the writer strike and the second being it was a direct sequel. I don't think Bond as a franchise suits itself as a series of connected films. They are better of being one-shots and an anthology instead of a overarching continuing story.

With Skyfall I have very high hopes, now they have everything going for them instead, and I imagine they now that aswell.

Olga can always come back as a supporting character me thinks.

Thing is, a gorgeous as Olga is, I never saw her character is being there just to look good. Her arc was about seeking revenge [which mirrored 007's], not about being Bond's love interest.

Looks are subjective, but why do you say that she is less talented?

I think Berenice is beautiful, anyway. She is more mature looking than Olga or Gemma, but none the worse for that.

But they might as well have gotten someone less gorgeous then. If you've got it, flaunt it.

Nah, what would be the point of sullying the aesthetic with a fugly actress? ;) Olga's beauty was just a bonus.

From Russia With Love was a direct-sequel. Licence to Kill was affected by the 1988 Writer's Strike. Quantum of Solace was a let-down because Marc Foster wasn't the right guy for the job. He's a good filmmaker, but he isn't Bond material. If Barbara & Michael G. Wilson have one big flaw it's that they don't know how to pick Bond directors. Martin Campbell has been their only strong choice - with Sam Mendes still pending. Cubby & Harry Saltzman were a lot better with their choices since Terence Young, Guy Hamiliton, Lewis Gilbert, Peter Hunt and John Glen were good choices. Not all of them were "great" but they definitely got the job done.

another clapperboard still

Nice shot though....

Its neat they using old school clapper and not one of the newe digital ones I seen on some sets/behind the scenes stuff of films.

I'd say John Glen was a TV-quality director at best. He was just... there. Gilbert was only slightly better. The others were fine.

Forster was unfortunately not fit to direct action but his character scenes were some of the best in the Bond movie history, imo. And the writer's strike did ruin a big part of the movie. License to Kill was one of the worst Bond films, also imo.

But I do agree with From Russia With Love. A sequel can work for Bond. In fact, I'm of the opinion that all Bond movies should be connected, at least the movies starring the (each time) current actor that plays Bond.

Is there any spoiler-ish kind of plot summary that people might have put together thus far? How does this movie feel like to you? Does it have potential? The official synopsis sounds great, tbh.

I haven't spoiled myself too much with the leaked info (or lack of) but I'm thinking this will be a smaller film that's more intimate than the last film.

Even smaller than QoS? Really? That's quite interesting. Is there anything in particular that makes you say that?

Well it'll probably be more character based. You'll probably get to know M more and she'll have a character arc (for once). I really think, if Sam Mendes is successful, that this and Skyfall will be the Bond movies that people will talk about years from now. Not just Bond fans or fanboys, but casual film goers too.

I'm also glad that they got Javier Bardem to play Silver; he has so much gravity in his performances and I hope Silver will be remembered as a great Bond villain. One thing I miss though is the weird henchmen, like Odd Job. Maybe next time.

I think the film is focusing a lot of Bond and M's relationship is it not? A lot of it is set in England. That's what i've got out of it so far.

Yeah, it seems like there's less traveling, which is fine.

You mean CR, right? The star power of the cast for this movie is surreal. The only way it could've gotten better was if they had cast Weisz as initially rumored.

I am glad M gets to be explored even more in SF. My favorite QoS moments had M in them. Especially when Bond was interracting her.

OT: How are you, Oct? Missing you in the Batboards. Are you avoiding them?

Bond's own history and family seem to be getting some spotlight as well. Something which, if I'm not mistaken hasn't really been brought up in previous films.

OT: I'm doing great, how are you? yeah, I'm kinda avoiding the Bat boards for now. It's been too slow on the news front over there, and i'll drive people crazy if they continue to lurk there. It's for my own good and for my own safety. :p

India, though, that sounds great. The reason I always don't turn Octopussy off is because of the landscapes there.

F**k me, really? That's fantastic! And no, they haven't so much as been mentioned, let alone explored. Except for a brief moment in CR, when Vesper guesses he's an orphan.
