Well done. I'm thinking about pre-ordering the making of Skyfall and a few other Bond 50 books.

Does anyone here ever drive to Bond music in their car?

I have do so before. But don't ever drive to Danny Elfman's 'Batman's Wild Ride'. :funny:

lol why not?

I often listen to Bond music in the car. Not just the main themes but some of the action cues as well. I often wish during those times I had a rocket launcher or wheels with rotating spikes.

I'm loving the way Skyfall is looking overall, but I wish they had a costume designer who actually knew something about men's suiting. Craig's new suits are really ill-fitted. Don't get me wrong, I like slim cut suits but there is slim done right and slim done wrong. A suit jacket should never gather at the front when buttoned like Craig's does in the teaser or promo shots. In addition, these are the extreme end of trendy. They will look just as dated as Roger Moore' Safari suits in a few years. Connery's suits still look insanely cool because they were beautifully made but not overly trendy. That sort of ethic fits the character. Bond was not a dandy in the novels. He distrusted men who wore Windsor knots because they showed too much vanity for crying out loud.

As someone who ties Windsor knots, I am extremely offended.

Windsor Knots are the usual way to tie neck ties. It's not really overly vain. The other way is just sloppy and more for someone who doesn't know how to tie a tie. It's like saying that someone who has their shirt buttons correctly aligned is showing too much vanity as opposed to someone who does up their shirt wrong with buttons matching the wrong button holes.

Ummm..

No, no, he's absolutely right. I really shouldn't be tying a windsor knot anymore. Due to my sudden realization of vanity.

Thank God that the internet can make me realize my shortcomings as a human being.

God help us all if he's wearing boxers instead of briefs.

I use double Windsor knots unless I'm wearing a slim fit tie. Imo, they are too bulky for skinny ties. As for Bonds suits, that is the current style in slim and fitted suits. Personally I prefer it to the bulky styles of the 90s and early 2000s.

What the **** is a Windsor knot?

How's that for manly?

I don't know much on costuming myself but I don't see anything overall wrong with suits on craig/others for the pic. And hasn't bond films have had some solid acadmey award winning/top stylists on there crews.

I wanna see the costume designer from Inception designing a Bond movie. The suits in that film are simply....ballin. Contemporary with a futuristic tinge.

Woah, I wasn't saying that I thought that windsor knots are vain, but that Bond did in the novels. I was talking about character's opinion, not my own. So apologies to all those who took offence. I just meant as a quick insight into the character's opinion on style.

However, windsor knots are not at all the usual way to tie a neck tie. The classic four-in-hand knot is. There is a reason why it is taught at every private or public school that requires ties as part of the uniform. The Duke of Windsor after whom the knot is named tied his ties witha four-in-hand. No self-respecting public school educated English gentleman (ie. Bond) would ever tie his ties that way.

Moreover, as I was very careful about stating in my post, I'm not saying that slim is bad or that Bond should be dressing like we are in the 1990s. What I was saying is that the costume department did a horrible job of fitting Craig's suits. Craig's pants are so short that he has sock showing when standing still. Granted, there are some designers who are going for that look, but it is very much a mid-twenties, entertainment industry look. Not something you would see on a public school educated, English professional in his 40s. Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson also wears very modern, slim cut suits but his are fitted properly. Or even just see how Tom Ford, the designer of Craig's suits, wears his or how he dressed Colin Firth in A Single Man.

What is in fashion goes out of fashion. What is elegant and classic endures.

Ironically, Nolan's costume designer on the Batman films was the costume designer for Bond from Goldeneye until Casino Royale. Interestingly, Nolan didn't use her on Inception.

While I love what she has done on Batman, I'll never forgive her for starting the trend of dressing Bond in Italian suits. :P The character belongs in English tailoring. Tom Ford's designs used in Quantum of Solace and Skyfall are bringing the character back to that look, but the costume designers on the last two films have made some very odd choices. The QOS suits were beautifully cut but the cloths chosen were very shiny and seemed suited to a Hollywood red carpet.

Now, we have Bond in classic Connery-esque colours and patterns, but Craig is wearing suits fitted too small. Let out the waist of his jacket a little bit and lower the hem of his pants and Craig would look great. The reason why the overly fashionable looks chosen in the Craig Bond films are irritating is that it destroys any sense of continuity. Connery Bond had a distinct look. Other than some minor variations to keep up with changing trends, his suits had a consistent style from Dr. No until You Only Live Twice.

I'm not taking offence. I was just saying that I thought the Windsor Knot is the usual way to tie a tie. I also don't quite follow your sentence above. You said the Duke of Windsor ties his ties with a four-in-hand, even though the Windsor Knot is named after him? Why would he not use the Windsor Knot?

And I thought most public school pupils use the Windsor Knot unless they're being lazy or rebellious and just tie it any old way. We're talking about public schools which are really private schools, right?

Probably a fools hope but I really want Thomas Newman to take over the David Arnold's job.

I was replying to the others who it seems were just feigning offence.

Yeah, they call the old private schools in England public schools.

The Duke of Windsor tied his ties with four-in-hands because that was the standard way to do so. However, he had a thing for custom made very thick ties which made big knots. The windsor knot was invented by less well off imitators who wanted to achieve the same look without having to have ties custom made.

I can't speak for the current state of English public schools, but up until the 90s, four-in-hands were the norm. It is the knot that Craig-Bond (who would have grown up in the 70s and 80s) would have been taught.
