James Bond In Skyfall - Part 7

Personally, I don't have an issue with Craig's suits not being perfectly fitted. What does Vesper say in CASINO ROYALE?

"You wear it with such disdain".

I don't think he really cares about his attire that much.

Probably a fools hope but I really want Thomas Newman to take over the David Arnold's job.

That would be amazing.

Precisely my point actually. Bond's suits are too fashionable and trendy for someone who considers them simply a required uniform. I'm not saying Bond is a slob. Because of his background, he was raised a snob but it is old fashioned English reverse snobbery. He is someone who wears fine suits that are perfectly fitted but doesn't overdo it. He doesn't change his wardrobe based on the latest, transitory craze, which is how the Skyfall suits look - they are the extreme end of trendy.

I'm just disappointed because Mendes and Craig have been talking a lot about going back to the novels, reading them on set and then they hire some French woman who knows nothing about CLASSIC men's style or the ethos of the character to dress him.

Btw, consider that these boards had numerous threads about the authenticity of each superhero's movie costume, I don't think I'm too crazy for bringing this up.

I wear a suit everyday, and I have to wear black tie once in a while, but I really don't give a crap about how Bond wears his. I don't feel that it is really a significant part of the appeal of the character or the movies.

And Windsor knots are a bit...effete, in my opinion.

Newman is confirmed as scoring the film. I wonder though if Oberon is asking for Newman to score a long run of Bond films like Barry or Arnold.

Yes, that's what I ment. I'd love for him to do multiple films.

I somewhat agree with DKdetective. The problem with fashion is that it's a seasonal style that comes and goes and very rarely makes a return. Connery's suits were classic. They were/are of a timeless style and it also helps that he had damn perfect tailoring because his suits complimented hid physique exceptionally well.

The Roger Moore era on the other hand was pure fashion driven at it's best; really dating his era more so than it should.

I personally found Craig's dinner suit and the suit he wears after shooting Mr White in the leg in CR to be
excellent but those are the only 2 articles of formal attire that IMO really worked for Craig in that movie. As for QoS the Tom Ford suits in that movie were perfect. Perfect slim fit without giving it that obvious fashionable edge that some of the suits Bond is wearing in SF. However, the suit Bond wears as he's running around London and the dinner suit he wears in China or Japan do look fantastic. I'm just not a big fan of the type of collard shirts and skinny tie he's wearing. It's too fashionable and not classic, which could potentially in the long run make SF look more dated than CR and QoS.

We'll see. It's not like Craig is wearing a purple plaid suit from the 70's or anything.

David Arnold said this: "My availability wasn’t an issue. Sam Mendes wanted to continue his working relationship with Thomas Newman. I would hate to be a composer foisted upon a director if the director would rather have someone else and I have been lucky that the five directors who I've worked with on the Bond movies chose to work with me."

Arnold said he was willing to come back to the series at any point, and he is doing something with the 50th anniversary celebrations.

Well I was getting tired of David Arnold anyway. Some of his themes sound a bit stale and too much of a pastiche, but in an inferior way. All of his actual Bond songs (Surrender, The World is Not Enough, and even that Shirley Bassey one he composed for Quantum of Solace) all sound like they could segue into his orchestration of Diamonds Are Forever with David McAlmont. It's like he only has one tune in him, or has only heard one John Barry theme, and everything is a variation on that.

John Barry came up with more original melodies which were fresher. Hopefully Thomas Newman will bring something fresh to the table.

I think it would be pretty cool if Elbow did the new Bond theme.

They sound great with an orchestra.

More like men's clothier.

Nope, just a simple law student with an interest in the finer things in life. (hence the love of James Bond)

I wish I was a spy, but that gig doesn't pay well enough for one to dress like James Bond and Canada doesn't have a foreign intelligence service anyways. Our "spies" are famous for leaving confidential files in unlocked cars.

More on-topic, Deakins' cinematography is looking great. We haven't seen such visual style since the Connery days and Terrence Young. Also, I'm really looking forward to hearing what Thomas Newman has in store for us. Does anyone know if the teaser music was done by him? It ended with that distorted, synth infused hint of the Bond theme which seems far too daring to be something David Arnold cooked up in the past.

WTF!!! What the ****ing **** ****!!!

I will destroy EON for this slight! They will rue the day they made this decision! You here me, EON! I am your bane. Your ending incarnate!
