Top ten Bond villains you say? :D

1. Alec Trevelyan
2. Auric Goldfinger
3. Blofeld
4. Red Grant
5. Francisco Scaramanga
6. Jaws (In TSWLM)
7. Oddjob
8. Xenia Onatopp
9. Dr. No
10. Max Zorin

^^Yeah I'd roughly agree with that list, certainly the top 3.

A lot of people here like Alec Trevelyan as one of their top 10 villains.

I don't blame them. One of the most interesting aspects of GoldenEye was the fact that the villain was not only a former 00 agent, but also one of Bond's closest friends. In a way, Bond truly met his match.

I feel that Alec had his own emotional arc as well, in that he was as betrayed by Bond as Bond was by him.
It was like 'You're my best friend and you'd still let me die to complete the mission you unfeeling bastard.'
That's why I think the final scene between the two was probably one of the best scenes in the Bond franchise.

It has to be Savalas. :woot: He was miles better than Pleasance or Gray.

Definitely than Gray, but I like Pleasence's Blofeld - although Savalas is still the better villain, I won't dispute that. The problem with Pleasence's Blofeld is that he's so not what was built up; all of a sudden, the Number One from From Russia with Love and Thunderball is revealed to be this small button-pusher. He's creepy, but not much of a threat for Connery's Bond.

I like how you specified Jaws specifically from TSWLM. He was crap in Moonraker.

Auric Goldfinger is my number one. The quintessential Bond villain. So many memorable scenes and quotes for him. Gert Frobe was magnificent and he didn't even speak English.

Exactly. I have said this before and will say it again. Savalas' Blofeld I feel is the only Blofeld others like Dr. No, Emile Largo, and Rosa Klebb would follow. Plesance doesn't feel like that and while Grey has some of the physical features for us to accept that, Blofeld was too campy in that. Also, I'm still always confused by Blofeld's plot in DAF. It's the only villain plot that I can't explain and am always baffled by.

Oh, I'll explain it: It's something with lasers and diamonds and who cares?

That's as much as I can try to care about that one.

Personally, I'd switch Goldfinger and Red Grant.

I like Red Grant as a Russian Bond who lacks some of Bonds social sensibilities, but to me he's more linear than Goildfinger who still has the best Bond villain line in history to boot. :D

Telly Savalas?

I hate sympathetic monster stories where they turn the badass killing machine into a goofy good guy, there were zero signs that Jaws was anything but a cold blooded killer in TSWLM, and that's how he should stay.

I forgot to add with Plesances Blofeld, I will be honest and say that Austin Powers also had a hand in ruining Plesances Blofeld.

Fair enough about Grant.

Also, with Jaws, I think that they changed Jaws because this one kid got scared and wrote the director (or writer, or someone) a letter saying that Jaws should be a good guy, and they caved for children.

Is that true? Oh man, that makes it even worse.

Yep, and after research it was Lewis Gilbert that made the decision. That's disappointing, especially after how well directed his Bond movies before Moonraker were.

True, although I think Hamilton made three stinkers (there are parts of Live and Let Die that I like, but on the whole, I am not a fan).

I like Live and Let Die. I really like the style, presentation and music. Plus, even though Moore was meh as Bond, he had some great moments in it, like putting a gun to Rosie Carter's head, and the Bus chase scene. Plus Yaphet Kotto is an underrated Bond villain.

Of course, what hurts it is Roger Moore (who in my opinion got much better in the role as Bond), the overly long boat chase scene, and of course, JW Pepper.

I'll give you Yaphet Kotto, he's actually really good. I also love Geoffrey Holder as Baron Samedi. And of course, the theme is one of the best.
