With all the hair that Leto has, they better give him a dapper do in this, if the Joker isn't in jail, in which case, I don't mind him looking a bit disheveled.

ok we got this

thats how I want Leto's Joker to look like in regards to disappearing in a role. I wouldnt believe you If you had told me that was Heath Ledger playing the Joker before they made a casting announcement.

Exactly. Proof that you don't need mounds and mounds of make up and prosthetics to transform an actor into an unrecognizable face.

Sometimes I forget how much I love Heath's Joker and then I see a picture or something and am floored all over again.

But here's the thing.

Heath was unrecognizable because of the following -
The panda eyes.
The lipstick smeared across his mouth and cheeks.
The white makeup all cracked across his face and forehead.

And I doubt Jared is going to look like that, with a bit of luck. He should definitely be a Joker who took a chemical bath.
I used to think Jared needed prosthetics to hide his baby features. But I underestimated how much losing weight and simple makeup can do for him

A lot of manips that I see of him as Joker, are basically just Jared in white makeup...
When I look at him up there? I don't see him at all. I don't worry about it, because he's an actor who will literally go through hell and back in order to perfect a role, both physically and mentally. If he sees "Jared" in the mirror and not "Joker", I'd imagine he'd go back and ask the makeup people to get it right.

Snap. A timeless brilliant performance.

I don't buy this at all. For a start look at Cesar Romero:

His make up didn't have panda eyes or smeared red lips, but it was still like Heath's in that it was simple and effective, using the same basic make up of white face, red lips, and green hair, and it made him look unrecognizable.

Jared's Joker taking a chemical bath doesn't guarantee he will be unrecognizable because Jack's Joker still looked recognizable as Jack. It's all about execution. They should approach it the way Heath's and Cesar's was done.

But when you compare Ceaser's makeup to Heath's, you can see the difference. Both achieved the two actors to look unrecognizable, though.

But my point was that some manips of Jared, do nothing to change him. I still see Jared and not Joker and I couldn't put my finger on the fact that there are other manips that don't do much or even anything to change his features into that of the Joker, but he DOES look the part in some. You said it's about the right execution and that is true

This is still my favourite manip and my ideal look for him. I see Joker there and not much of Jared

Yeah of course there's a difference in their two styles (and I don't mean one has a mustache sticking out under his make up :p) but they both utilize the same basic Joker make up, it's just the execution that makes it so effective for each actor to make them look like the Joker and not themselves.

That's why I am a champion of less is more with the make up. Jared doesn't need to be buried under mounds of make up and prosthetics to transform his face because Cesar and Heath didn't. Jared has an expressive kind of face. Let him use it as much as he can. The make up should compliment it, not hide it.

Yeah some of the manips do look weak but then we are talking about fan made manips and not professional make up jobs. So I never worry about what manips look like. I mean no offense to those who make manips. Interestingly though that manip there you like best has got some panda eyes and smeared red lips going on.

I'm not huge on the lips. That could be reduced. But if you look closely to the left, it isn't panda eyes :D

I think someone has changed his nose slightly and made it longer, so the bridge sticks out, as well as the skull, making his eyes look dark because less light reaches them.

Now that sort of prosthetic would be welcome :p

Ok well the shadowing effect gives it a panda eyes look.

I for one don't think Joker's nose needs to be touched at all. His nose is like one of the last things that stands out to me when I look at the character's visuals, unless it's a ridiculously exaggerated Penguin like nose:

His nose has always stood out to me...reminds me of mine at times - aquiline :wow:

I don't think there is much you can do with Jared's in terms of making it like Joker's.

Didn't they extend the tip of Jack's nose?

Anyway, I think for the transformation to work completely they're going to have to use the slicked back classy hair. With Jack, it basically looked like they dyed his regular hair green and that's it. It worked, but it doesn't help with immersion.

This reminds me of an article I read in Star Wars Insider about Ian McDiarmid's makeup in ROTS. They said they'd spent hours sculpting his Emperor face, but even after days and days, they didn't feel they'd got it right. So they brought him in to see what needed fixing, and when they finished applying the prototype, he did something with his face and posture that suddenly made it all work.

That's part of the reason manips don't always work; sometimes the most effective visual cues don't come from the make-up but from the guy underneath.

And look what an effective iconic villain The Emperor turned out to be.

Great example. Thank you

But you couldn't tell it was Ian Mcdiarmid though :o

But it's true, actors bring to the table their spark that lights the role up.

Exactly. Ceaser lost himself to the Joker role, as did Heath.

Jack? Nah. He didn't reinvent himself.

Probably because the role wasn't that much of a stretch for who Nicholson really is. :lmao:

That's correct. People were so used to see Nicholson's roles (I liked his performance tho) that are similar when seeing his Joker they only "saw" Nicholson with a modification same role.
