JARED LETO TALKS JOKER!!!!!

Playing the Joker onscreen means stepping into some big shoes left by Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. So how is Jared Leto preparing for his role as the iconic Batman villain in Suicide Squad? By getting bigger.
"Do you mind if I eat a little?" Jared Leto asks Billboard during an interview for our new cover story, out Friday, Feb. 20. "I'm trying to gain a lot of weight. It means I have to eat every couple of hours -- and I'm terrible at eating a lot." (Case in point: Leto was eating vegan tacos during the interview, which are hardly the fattiest food on the market.)
Last December, Warner Bros. announced Leto would take on the Batman bad guy in a movie starring DC Comics supervillains. And he's not the only A-lister in the film: Will Smith also stars as Deadshot, alongside Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg.
The 30 Seconds to Mars frontman, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of the transgender Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club, explains the increasing complexity of graphic novels drew him to this project.
"The opportunity to take on this nearly Shakespearean character -- that's what graphic novels and comic books are becoming, right?" Leto says. "[He's] this beautiful disaster of a character -- what a big challenge."
Read Billboard's full cover story about Jared Leto -- and fellow musician-actors including Jennifer Hudson and Jack Black -- on Friday, Feb. 20.

I'm excited to see what he comes up with. He knows some good **** :D

"nearly Shakespearean character"....darn right, Jared.

I just know every interview Leto gives I'm going to be salivating. I really didn't expect to see Joker so soon, but getting someone of his particular ilk to take this on so quick after Heath has me beyond excited.

Curious about the weight thing though. If anything I thought he would be going skinnier. Maybe he's going for a super-ripped and physically capable Joker? Like Patrick Bateman? That would be an interesting way to approach it.

Ayers may have told him his character is going to take part in some very intense action set pieces as well, and he needs the extra weight/muscle to add some padding, literally, to his frame to decrease injury. Even with stunt people ect. it's easy to get injured on films with lots of action in them. Due diligence and all that.

When an actor says that they are gaining weight for an action film when has that not meant putting on muscle?

When an actor says that they are gaining weight for an action film when has that not meant putting on muscle?

When you're the late Michael Clarke Duncan, who was already huge muscle wise to play the Kingpin, but also needed a little more fleshy bulk, so he didn't really tone up for the part.

He could just be beefing up to look as big as Joker did in TDKReturns :wow:

Depends when he's actually due on set?

Filming is scheduled to end in September, apparently.

True enough, but is that enough time to get "massive" like that pic of TDKReturns Joker (who, looks that way more due to Miller's stylization I think than him trying to present Joker as ripped or something.)

Though if Joker's part is smaller than we assume then I guess he would have the time, or Ayers would give him the time to bulk up if that is what he wants too I guess.

doesn't bother me if Leto does put on a little weight

don't want him looking like he did in Dallas Buyers Club. besides, i know we all want a skinny Joker and we may very well still be getting that. most likely he's just gaining the weight because the role may involved a lot of physical work

I just straight up fangasmed at the sight of Aquamoa. I shudder to think what I might do when I see Leto in character.

Awesome little interview and said all the right things,I'm also a bit worried about him gaining weight but nah I'm sure he will look fantastic

The weight thing could be anything. He may have to gain muscle and not be like insanely thin. He could **** himself up if he does stunts or something and he's frail.

Yeah gaining weight is not something you associate with playing the Joker, unless Leto has just done a movie where he was as thin as a wire like Bale after The Machinist lol.

Technically, it would be impossible to come up with an actor that physically resembles what the Joker looks like in the comics; you'd have to gene splice a human being with a coathanger. Neither Jack or Heath "looked like" the Joker, but those characters were great nonetheless.

I think this version of the SS needs to have some physical credibility, as part of what is essentially a special ops team. He doesn't have to be Tom Hardy's size, but someone who can at least take a few punches without shattering into deadly shards of bone.

I really, really hope The Joker isn't part of the team.
