You missed the part where Leto said

"Wait'll they get a load of me."

This spot on. Im convinced that the tattoo/teeth detractors have their minds made up that they're not going to like it no matter what, and that's fine. But i agree with everything you've said here. This is certainly a top notch scary joker.

Well yeah, we know what he looks like. We can see it, so we know how we feel about it.

Straight after this shot we see Johnny Frost (Mr. Frost patch on his arm), with Mr. J to his right – looks to me like they're on a chinook...

Does this mean Joker's going to rape his wife, too?

Some have had their minds made up for awhile since the first photo, yes (as is sometimes the case with certain fans), but not all.

I can definitely see why some folks would not like it, whether it be due to their own preconceived notions or simply personal preference/taste. Aesthetics, like all aspects of art, are completely subjective at the end of the day.

Absolutely. And that's all that matters.

In these shots especially for me. He's the proper lunatic Joker should be and i'm loving every bit of it so far.

I'm open to a new look if I feel the look comes from a place based on character, not something they're doing just to be different or because someone thinks it looks "cool."

I wasn't a huge fan of the Heath Joker design when it first appeared. You can slog back through the hype archives and see that for yourself if you'd like. Though I never flipped out like some did (if you think the initial backlash to the tats and grills were bad, it was NOTHING like the backlash Heath's look inspired. It was insane, enough to inspire a nearly year long debate about makeup vs. perma-white.

However, as I said above, as I watched more of Heath's performance in the trailers, and saw it in action, I began to understand how the look fit with his performance. Eventually I grew to appreciate it's stylistic choices.

I feel the opposite with Leto. His Joker is a nearly perfect comic to film adaptation. It's perma-white done to perfection. However, the more I see of his performance, the more I get pure comic Joker vibes. In fact, he's really reminding me of what Mark Hamill's Joker would be like when you remove the restrictions of TAS. And the more I see of his performance, the more the grills and tats seem to not fit at all. I don't see how the look connections to the performance. Because of this, they just come off as superfluous additions done for no other reason than to be "different."

Now, if we find out that the Joker had a mob background before becoming Mr. J, similar to B89 or TAS, then that might make more sense.

This shot is extremely interesting because he seems to be wearing regular clothes. Damn, I can't wait to see all of these Joker scenes play out on the big screen.

Agreed. It make it worse for me to take perfect classic look and then put all stupid added things on it so it will look like something very new. It like taking classic Batman costume and put extra stupid designs on it that not look like they belong and make Batman look something else. Tattoos and metal teeth and all the jewelry make him look like pimp gangster and not Joker.

Jared Leto better give great performance because his look is so bad and he need great performance to save it and distract from bad look. I hope he wear clothes alot that not show much of them. But none of them hide face tattoos which look worst. Maybe jewelry and tattoos they get melted away when he take swim in chemicals again lol.

I don't think saying word toys was meant as reference to that movie.

That one remind me of way Heath Ledger Joker would go up close and hold peoples faces when he threaten them.

Agreed. I think I saw video once where Chris Nolan say he was inspired by Francis Bacon art for Joker.

I don't think him saying "toys" was supposed to be a reference, it's just that it reminded me of it.

With as big of a fan of 80s comics as Snyder is, I'm pretty sure it's an homage to 89.
