The thing with DC is that this is not the first time a DC characters is shown onscreen (I'm talking about Batman, Superman, Joker), so they cannot do exact same interpretation that has been don in older movies but at the same time thay cannot make a drastic changes to the "Look" of the characters.

A fine balance is needed, which is what David Ayer's Joker is, he looks a bit different (for the sake of freshness) but still looks enough like a Joker.

Yep. All the Joker elements are there just with a slight twist here and there to make it fresh.

As Marvolo said, there's only so much you can do.

I'm sure Leto tried a bunch of different voices and together with Ayer decided that this one was the most convincing. You have to appear natural doing the voice. Mark Hamill arguably invented the definitive Joker voice, but it would look ridiculous doing that in live action. Just look at clips of him in the studio.

The grills sound like they play with Leto's voice presentation.

idk. the problem with hamill impersonators is that they usually do it very over-the-top. there's other ways to do that. hamill's more subtle , darker performances in return of the joker or the arkham games could work.

Yea twitter is having a fit over Leto's comments..

I hope this doesn't cause a distraction for the movie/his Joker.

Cause if people go into the movie looking to hate his character..

He sent things to people you're too young to know about...

He's ****ing awesome!

I'm sure they were artificially made, I don't think he literally sent actual used condoms, etc lol... I mean it's weird and I wish he hadn't said anything (though it made his mtv intro make more sense) but hey the cast played along with it well and as Will and Adewale said, it banded the squad together and they sent back their own gifts and messages to The Joker. Jared was getting underneath their skins and helping them be more genuine in their interactions with his character. They all seemed to have had fun with it watching that video, With the way Jared was side eyeing and smiling I thought he was joking until the rest of the cast confirmed but they had good spirits with it.

"his voice is a rip off of Ledger's"
Is probably one of the most ridiculous complaints of seen so far about this joker.

jesus ****ing christ
:funny:

as a matter of fact, i remember people saying heath's voice is a rip off of jack's back when TDK's trailers came out....

Could it possibly be that The Joker is a character sufficiently well realised for him to steer most actors tasked with playing him in a similar direction?

And everybody that came after is a ripoff of Cesar Romero, so there. :o

I wanna believe Jared wore swimming trunks underneath his costume, just in case.

Leto's actions are free promotion for the movie. It got people talking.

So fun little exercise here:

If you were designing the Joker, and tattoos were a mandate, what tattoos would you give him?

The kind that rub off :sly:

I would have went with more Frank Miller. Just one big design if you're going to have one.
