Jared Leto IS The Joker - - - - - - Part 15

I liked Leto's performance overall, I mean, what he did with his voice, the laugh, most of it was really good I thought, the problem was the material just wasn't good or very nuanced. Very generic mob boss theme, he just wasn't given alot to work with. Outside of a couple lines, basically the lines from the trailers were good, the rest was just lame dialogue & very minimal development or purpose outside of freeing Harley.

It's obvious they cut alot of his scenes, I suspect the Arkham/Harleen scenes & the Batman chase was probably a quite bit longer originally, the scene with the grenade & Harley chasing him on the motorcycle were completely cut.

I think Leto can be great in this role, but he just wasn't given good enough material and they made alot of dumb choices about his characterization and look. Dump all the money/cars/clothes/club owning millenial mob boss crap, dump the awful tats and throw him in the purple suit, make him an unpredictable agent of chaos again, not a generic crime lord with green hair. Give him a psychotic plot of death traps and violence to screw with Batman, not have him sitting in a night club ordering goons around and going on joyrides in a ugly ass sports car.

They tried to reinvent the wheel to make him more "current", it was completely and utterly unnecessary and mostly corny.

I liked the purring. Instantly made me think of TDKR Joker. He seems playful but there was always this weird sexual intensity with him. Like this guy is a proper freak. He makes the guy from 50 shades look like a prude.

I think it fits Joker. I like what Leto's brought to the role. I just don't like that we don't have any kind of real insight into the character or a big moment from him.

I am fine if I never have to see or hear Leto's Joker again. I can pretend his 9 minutes of screen time never happened. Leto who?

Honestly I don't mind the tattoos one bit when I watched Jared do his thing. Didn't take away from his performance in any way. But the way I see it, if they can unexplainably change supermans belt buckle in BvS and tweak Afflecks batsuit for JL, why couldn't they tweak jokers look? I think they will, but like I said, the tats don't bother me. I would like his face, however, to be a more stark white. In certain scenes it looked like he didn't even have makeup on. He needs to be glowing like a ghost in every scene. The grills have got to go though. I think I get what Ayer was going for by trying to make his smile gleam but they're not needed and honestly I think they are impeding Letos speech. Maybe it's just me but it sounded like there was constantly something in his mouth when he's trying talk. A wardrobe change would of course be welcome but like the tats I feel that could stay the same and it wouldn't bother me one bit.

Above all else, give him some good material to work with. That will make or break this Joker

Yeah it's definitely affecting his speech. As for the make up I actually thought it was too much, especially in
the ending with Harley
he just looked weird to me

Saw the movie again today and I noticed when Joker is laying down after he says "Where is she?" he begins to laugh but then it almost looks like he starts to cry. I really do think this Joker actually loves Harley, again at ACE Chemicals after Harley jumps in the vat of acid he initially turns like to leave before getting annoyed and seemingly change his mind to dive in and rescue her, like he knows he needs her and it kills him to have this weakness. It's a definite change in direction one I'm still not sure how I feel about.

It's a bit better than having him be a abusive boyfriend. Remeber, kids watch this, granted he still does treat her kinda bad because he's still insane. It can't actually be as bad as it is in the comics because....well it gets dark in the comics.

The Joker is one of the most notorious killers in history. This is a guy who's targeted everyone from elected officials to babies. He has no lines and the fact that kids watch this shouldn't change that. At some point his abusive nature is going to have to be addressed.

I'm fine with it being cut from this film but it needs to be shown. At the end of the day, even if Joker cares about Harley to the extent that he sees her as strictly his, he's still a cold-hearted bastard who doesn't even give a damn about himself.

Like I said, let Leto work with Affleck. Someone who can really get him to channel the right performance and would be capable of writing effectively strong material that he can really work with. I am cool with what we see in SS, but Leto does need to be under someone who has better direction. Ledger had Nolan, Leto needs Affleck.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and everything but... Seriously? Over reacting much? He wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, just not what people were expecting. I like him and if anyone is to blame it's Ayer for giving him so little.

I am not overeacting and i dont want to see Leto's joker again. damaged goods. He was not good by any stretch of the imagination as the Joker. fine as an overacting curiousity. but i suspect he will be back wearing a joker vest in big letters and damaged tattoo to bring that mystique back

I like the interpretation in the novelization. Joker sees Harley as a toy, but there's a weird kind of affection because she keeps him sharp. He likes the mission of trying to find her in SS because it invigorates him and gives him a purpose.

Also as a narcissist I think he likes the attention she gives him

he basically created her. she is an extension of himself. part of his image now. a favorite toy that he can do whatever he likes as long as he is the one in possession of her.

I like that creepy smile he gives Monster T after asking him if he's enjoying himself

You are my gift to this handsome.. HUNKA HUNKA

His best scene IMO was the chopper shootout, it was just the sort of typical Joker stuff I would expect from the character, I really liked his laugh there (and at ACE Chemicals too) as well.

I liked it but I expected it to last longer because the trailers showed us alternate cuts of the laugh.

Now that's a deep burn.

;)

To be fair, I feel like I need to see more of Leto's performance to be sure that he's actually overacting here. We got so little of him that I'm not entirely sure.

Affleck though... yeah, I don't think he realizes that he's phoning it in, but he sure as hell is.

I enjoyed Leto as Joker. I really liked a couple scenes more than others. I honestly think that had Leto been given a rated "R" script and more screen time, I think we would have gotten something really spectacular. Leto doesn't seem to be the type of person to method a character like this and have rules... I think Leto really wanted to drop a bunch of f bombs and walk around half naked and watch people bleed. This was the joker I was really hoping for.

Funny, that's my most hated line/delivery. That or "You don't want no beef". His acting stood out way too much there.

The line itself is a little weird, but Leto saved it IMO :funny:
