The only feasible way, imo, to get him back to that state (without the metal teeth) would be introducing Dionisium. Otherwise, a chemical bath isn't gonna do it...if they didn't go away when he dived in for Harley, it'd be kind of tricky getting us to believe it'd work the next time around.

Still, I'd rather they just leave it there. No point in backing out on something that's already been presented. I'm not worried about his appearance anymore at this juncture anyway. I just want a fleshed out performance that lets Leto really get to do something extraordinary with the character.

Having tattoos & metal teeth won't hinder that, imo.

I can buy a universe where an alien from another galaxy flies around in a red cape alongside a middle aged man dressed as a bat, I can also buy into the Joker removing the tattoos and the grill with no explanation. ;)

Just seems like a minor aesthetic detail all things considered, especially since it was never called out in the movie. If nothing else.... get rid of "damaged".

I liked that he didn't have eyebrows. Very David Bowie-esque.

Give him another chemical bath to get rid of the tattoos and give him a regular set of teeth. Then we're golden.

Then you will have a really handsome HUNKA HUNKA!

Not that they'd really need an in-story explanation as to how he got rid of the tattoos, but perhaps the chemicals act as a skin peel of sorts the longer you remain submerged in them. Or, if he's willing to sit through hours of tattoo work, it stands to reason he'd be fine sitting through hours of tattoo removal. Here's a character who is all about reinvented himself, after all.

Either way, it's a comic book movie. An explanation isn't really necessary. If the next filmmaker wants a more conventional look for the character, then they should be free to do so. I wouldn't want filmmakers to necessarily feel shackled to Ayer's specific aesthetic.

Leto's Joker, with normal teeth and sans tattoos, wearing an expensive tailored suit, trench coat and fedora. That's the ticket, right there.

I don't have any preference for tattoos, so if they decide to remove them, I wouldn't mind at all.

The teeth is a different thing, it changes Leto's look, he does not look like Leto with them, so I would prefer that teeth stay, but I think WB might do the opposite, that is, they might keep the tattoos but remove those teeth.

The teeth changed Leto's look because they were larger than his normal teeth. So they changed the shape of his mouth.

The same effect can be achieved with normal-looking dentures.

God people, you are so obsessed with the psychical. :oldrazz:

I say, don't change a thing. The look is set, it's IMO works for Leto, it's different then before and just power through the hate. Don't crumble DC, don't crumble to the pressure.

Honestly, i don't care because on the whole his performance including the look worked for me. He didn't look or sound like Leto to me. Maybe some slight adjustments to the makeup, size of the grills and such aren't out of the question - you know, perfecting the look, but on the whole I wouldn't change a thing.

The look needs to go. It was very problematic. The tattoos are distracting and stupid, especially the damaged one. The pimp gangster clothing like the gold jackets don't work because they are so non Joker and generally non clown like. Same with all the bling bling jewelry.

The grills I can just about get used to, but I don't like them and would prefer they go. But it wouldn't be the worst thing if they kept them. But the rest of the look needs a big overhaul.

I don't care much about the look but man oh man they ****ed up the characterization

Truthfully, I want the look to change for my own personal reasons. But I doubt the general audience at large really has any problems with it. I doubt it changes unless the next filmmaker simply isn't a fan of it. It's possible, but I'm not about to hold my breath over it.

But then again, I'm not holding my breath over seeing this character again anyway.

Then he would just have abnormally large teeth.
Which would no doubt bring more comparisons to The Mask.
Or maybe Gary Busey. :funny:

Joker is usually shown in the comics with larger teeth, but I don't really care to see that in live action.

The metal teeth do the job without looking cartoony. They give him an accentuated smile and change the shape of his face.
I also like the reason for them.
I just wish we could actually see batman knocking his original smile out. :funny:

It's the joker.
We'll see him again. :oldrazz:

Pretty much how I feel. Only thing I'd change is making both he & Harley more chalk-white in skin tone. Other than that and maybe removing the "Damaged" tattoo, I really don't see much I'd change were it in my hands to make the call.

^ A revamp at this point would be even worse than them leaving Leto's prime work on the cutting room floor.

I think wishing for a redesign is giving yourself false hope, anyway. He's already made a film appearance in addition to the music video. If WB didn't care at all for the look, it wouldn't have been approved in the first place. It's not going to change now just because of a mixed reaction to a performance we didn't even get to see fully.

He seemed a little whiter in that music video.
Pretty much perfect IMO

And yeah, I'd like to see damaged disappear. All the facial tattoos actually.I wasn't bothered by them but removing them would be an improvement. I like the other tattoos but I wouldn't be too bothered if they disappeared as well.

It not worse to revamp current look just because it was used in movie he was barely in and a music vid lol. People not care as long as it look good and nearly anything look better than current look which is so ugly.

It looks ugly to you, so who cares?
Not once have I heard someone saying in real life that his look is bad, regardless whether it's the tattoos or the the grills.

What they should do: get rid of the damaged tattoo, tone down his jewelry, make him button up his shirts.

I've heard plenty of people in real life say it looks stupid. Especially regarding the tattoos. But that's beside the point. A redesign, which he badly needs, isn't going to be some huge disaster like some are implying. Audiences don't care about visual change as long as it looks good. Fans will happy to get a better look.

This was far from a beloved look that will be missed if changed. Its one of the best directions they can go, along with rewriting the characterization.

And some of you act like they absolutely have to change the design since everyone and their moms hated it, so I'd say your argument goes both ways.

Unless I've missed a post I don't see anyone here saying or implying everyone hates it and that's why it has to go. People want a change because they don't think the look works or is a good one for the Joker. No offense but you are the only one who brought up what you've heard other people say as a justification for your own opinion and as an attempt to degrade someone else's - "It looks ugly to you so who cares. Nobody in real life I know complained".

It look good to you so who cares lol. I speak for myself and you speak for yourself so you only care what you think.

Agreed about tattoos but all jewelry need to go and change gangster clothes to Joker purple suit.

I hated the look from the jump, but some parts of it have actually grown on me, like the grill and the lack of eyebrows. But the Damaged tattoo, the jewelry and some of the clothes are truly hideous.
