I don't think I have heard the former, tbh.

He stepped in for the game Batman: Arkham Origins. I'd actually recommend watching the cutscenes on YouTube. He sounds almost exactly like Hamill & the laugh is spot on as well.

You can't beat Hamill's laugh. Each variation of it is perfection.

Okay, but Ledger deserves credit for his. He had the laugh of a ****ing demon.

His very last laugh when he's hanging from the wire and the laugh in the video tape threat both send chills to my spine every time.

Definitely

What do you think about Troy Baker in comparison in to Hamill?

He was so good impersonating Hamill that a lot of people never even realized it wasn't Hamill voicing Joker in that game. Ditto for Assault on Arkham movie.

This thread should be retitled ...

Jared Leto IS NOT the Joker

I mean seriously. A love sick, emo, wannabe Mr. J urban gangsta? Sure. But the Joker? Bwahaha, now that's a joke.

Leto was terrible. Hammy. Over acting on par with Danny Devito, Jim Carrey, Tommy Lee Jones, Arnold and Uma Thurman Batman villains.

Who would've ever thought the Joker could possibly be so inconsequential or forgettable? He's too entertaining and frightening of a character. Even in small doses he should steal every scene he's ever featured.

And Leto was so hyped up with all his stupid, method acting on set antics and post production hype.

His lines were cringe worthy. His delivery unintentionally hilarious ... Hunka Hunka? Really?!

WB/DC was only supposed to bring the Joker back on screen following Heath after substantial time, and quality. But this? Guy was doing a piss poor Ledger impersonation with doses of 90s Jim Carrey. It was terrible. Not to mention the character itself was written wrong.

Jack Nicholson gave a legendary, entertaining, psychotic cinematic villain.

Heath Ledger managed to even surpass that by giving the greatest performance in a comic book movie, ever. The most formidable, disturbing and genuinely terrifying cinematic comic book for ever.

Jared Leto? Gave you a Justin Bieber Joker that was razzie award winning caliber stuff. Put this rendition of the character to bed.

Hope Affleck gives a better and more faithful rendition that ignores this ultra trendy and inaccurate take on the character in his solo.

Nah, thread doesn't need to be retired and there's literally nothing emo about Joker. And him reclaiming Harley is more about reclaiming what he perceives to be his property than it is about being love sick.

Also, what's suddenly wrong with DeVito's Penguin? His portrayal certainly shouldn't be lumped in there with Carrey, Jones, Schwarzenegger and Thurman. They were terrible, he wasn't.

Indeed. I was amazed by how good he was, to the point I almost still don't believe it wasn't Hamill. :funny: I really do hope they get him to voice the Joker in more projects down the line.

Agreed with all of this. Ben Affleck movie really need to change this Joker a lot for him to be good.

Hunks Hunka !!!

No, he's almost to the point of love sick when he's lying in his pent house apartment grieving the lack of Harley.

Joker is supposed to be abusive, and view her as disposable. As in he could care less if she's there or not. This wasn't portrayed like that at all. He is presented as basically a loyal, some what likeable but deranged prince charming.

All things Joker should never be.

Also, what's suddenly wrong with DeVito's Penguin? His portrayal certainly shouldn't be lumped in there with Carrey, Jones, Schwarzenegger and Thurman. They were terrible, he wasn't.
I thought Devito was ridiculously over the top. Possibly due to direction, and the scripting of his character. But kind of hammy none the less. He too did that same stupid unnecessary and pretentious method acting Leto was known for ...

Only difference is Devito was at least somewhat threatening and intimidating. Leto was just goofy, and stupid. Literally purring in various scenes like a ***** cat. He was embarassing. How can one walk away from a movie with the Joker, yet the character is so easily forgettable.

:whatever:

Guy did his best imitation of Ledger. And was totally un-memorable in the process. Well besides embarassing stuff, like the line that will go down in the most memorable aspects of Joker's cinematic history.

"Wait till they get a load of me"
"I'm the worlds first functioning homicidal artist"
"Where does he get those wonderful toys?!"
"My face on the one dollar bill"
"Never rub another man's rhubarb"
"This town needs an enema"
"Can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs"
"Where's the Batman? He's at home washing his tights"
"Ever dance with the devil by the pale moonlight?!"

"If you're good at something never do it for free"
"Why so serious?!"
"Whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you ... stranger"
"Wanna know how I got these scars?!"
"Do I really look like a guy with a plan?!"
"I'm an agent of chaos"
"Now there's a Batman"
"Come on I want ya to do it, come on hit me"
"It's not about money, it's about sending a message"
"Tell your men they work for me now, this is my city"
"Madness as you know is like gravity ..."

And now ...

"Hunka Hunka"

I thought Leto really sucked in the role. This movie was unfortunately really awful. Hunka hunka my ass.

I just reeeeealllly hope it was mostly Ayers directing and writing. Hopefully he is better with a different crew.

Leto's Joker isn't suddenly gonna change his stupid behavior over a different crew.

It's just disappointing that from the man who helped write memorable villains such as Alonzo Harris, could bungle with a character like the Joker.

Honestly I

What Is Harley to Joker?

I speculate that Joker's response towards Harley is as follows:

A Toy: Joker sees Harley as his creation; and one of his most special ones. He broke Harley apart and remade her into his own image and continues to manipulate and bend her to his will, delighting in watching her strive to please him. When Joker is bored, he can play games with Harley and she will always play back, willingly and with pleasure. He can hurt her and draw her back to him with well-chosen words and deeds. He knows that every time Harley makes an effort to break away it is simply a matter of twisting the screws in the precise way to have her grovelling once more.

A Joke: Harley is a joke, and a wonderfully played one. He took a beautiful, successful young psychiatrist and coaxed her into sacrificing everything she had for him. He broke down her sanity, her self-respect and her independence leaving in its wake a completely insane, dependent and madly devoted slave. Her life as Harley Quinn as opposed to Dr. Harleen Quinzel would be hilarious to The Joker, who delights in such perversion and would take great delight in a promising life so squandered.

A Mirror: Harley, in both her insane devotion and her adoration of him, is a mirror to The Joker's ego. Highly narcissistic, Harley would provide proof to him of his own genius and brilliance; both in the very fact of her existence and because she willingly tells him so and fervently believes it herself. Similar to above, a Joker in a funk could take one look at Harley and start chuckling again as she stares at him with wide, adoring doe-eyes. Harley is his, body and soul, and that must be immensely gratifying to someone as egotistical as The Joker, especially considering the ease with which he controls her.

A Loved One: Yes, I believe it. I think Joker loves Harley. Not in any grand, passionate, self-sacrificing or selfless way. Not in a way in which her wellbeing and happiness are important to him. Not in any normal, healthy way. But in his way, as much as he is capable of. Some fans feel that “love” is too strong a word for The Joker. Nonetheless, that he does feel some sort of affectionate emotion towards him. Her uniqueness in response to him, I believe, penetrated something very deep and buried within Joker's psyche and brought it back to life; a faint glimmer of tenderness consumed by layers of darkness and depravity.

I think for every moment like this

there should be a moment like this:
[YT]rVuEivvaIUE[/YT]
[YT]https://youtu.be/dXsDi0D7bao[/YT]

as a counterpoint. Joker should have been severely reworked in order to work. Even if he was just a cameo, if done right, he could have been the most memorable and anticipated part of the movie/sequels. But maybe under another director or actor(if David does come back, it should be back to the drawing board and rework with other writers).

From Faith No More?

He also voiced The Darkness in the videogames of the same name. It was a killer performance.

Yep. He does voice acting for a lot of games and did the voice for the creatures in I Am Legend. His musical versatility is also all over the place and a majority of it could make for great theme music for Joker anyways , lol. For example :

I think I would've much rather heard this in the chemical bath scene lol :

Ayers Joker sucked Leto is fine

Ayer had no idea what to do with him so it seems more like he's just there instead of making an impact.

I'll never understand the decision to go for an end of the world event type story right after Doomsday with a group of supervillains instead of doing something more contained.

I'd say it'd have helped Leto's Joker if he was the main villain, but at this point I don't think Ayer would've ever been able to come up with something competent enough.

So ... Does anyone think that Leto will actually come back? From the sounds of it, I think he's probably turned off from the whole thing now ... Based on some of the stuff he said on the press tour ...

I'm pretty sure he will. It would be foolish of him not to.

I know its the cool thing to hate on him since there's a bandwagoner mentality against his controversial take, but I enjoyed his Joker performance. Him not having enough screentime (even with the Extended Cut) is the film's biggest flaw IMO.

I enjoyed him too but this role might have wrecked his career. He is Academy Award winning actor and after Squad fiasco the first reaction people had to him being cast in BR2049 was either 'oh no' or laughing at the fact that Harrison Ford will probably punch him in the face :funny:

I think Leto has a good Joker performance in him, but this definitely wasn't it, not even close. The disgusting dialogue mixed with bad direction and constant overacting is so awkward to watch. Hunka hunka is just the top of the iceberg.
