Jared Leto IS The Joker - - - - - - - - Part 17

He definitely needs more guidance from the director and the character needs a more interesting role with better dialogue. This is the only way to salvage Leto's Joker.

I know its the cool thing to hate on him since there's a bandwagoner mentality against his controversial take, but I enjoyed his Joker performance. Him not having enough screentime (even with the Extended Cut) is the film's biggest flaw IMO.

It isn't "the cool thing to hate on him" and there is no "bandwagoner mentality against his controversial take". People hate him because his Joker was cringe-inducing rubbish, and nothing more. If you like it, fine, but don't make excuses for why people do not like something terrible that you like.

I think there is a little bit of bandwagon thing happening with this. It's an unfortunate combination of 1. a lot of people not liking his performance/movie 2. the studio focusing the marketing on him without him or us knowing how little of him will be in the film 3. the juvenile method stuff

Now 3 is nothing new with Leto, he was always doing weird stuff before this movie but it never overshadowed his performance. He was so good in DBC no one made fun of him even though he made it very hard not to by mentioning the fact he waxed his pubes off on every occasion ( :/ ). But now with all of this going on and how little of him was in the film and how much he was promoting it it is ridiculous he did all of that for so little. So people don't go 'well Leto is a good actor and it's only that Squad thing that was bad' when they hear he is cast, they go 'oh not him he will ruin the movie! he sucks! he is a terrible actor! *method acting jokes*'

I'm not so sure he can come back from this as an actor and it would take a lot to turn the majority's opinion of his Joker. I read a lot of websites, boards, gossip sites etc. and he is one of the few people who seem to be universally ridiculed everywhere

I think Leto has a good Joker performance in him, but this definitely wasn't it, not even close. The disgusting dialogue mixed with bad direction and constant overacting is so awkward to watch. Hunka hunka is just the top of the iceberg.

I agree. With a total overhaul in writing and design I think Leto could be good.

Truth

It's a similar excuse to people saying the DC movies are too dark and "intelligent" for the masses and the critics to understand. Which is obviously crazy rubbish.

When it was rumored some time ago that there would be an Interview with the Vampire remake movie (now Rice wants a TV show) and that Leto could be up for the role of Lestat, that's how many people reacted (quotes are taken from twitter):

yeah Tom cruise got the feel of lestat in seconds leto will over do it to the point lestat won't be recognizable

When you find out leto is going to be Lestat in interview with a vampire remake and you're holding in the baby vomit

I have to come here to say that everyone who wants to cast Jared Leto for Lestat in anything ever is wrong.

if they make Jared Leto play Lestat I'm going to kill someone

i've had to put up with him in fight club and american psycho and he's ruined my fav villain and now he's gonna be in blade runner i'm mad

Just found out jared leto is set to play lestat in the remake and god help his co-stars if he method acts like he did with the joker omg

i just remembered jared leto is probably playing lestat and i want to die

#InterviewWithTheVampire reboot?! Have all my dreams come true? Except please don't make Jared Leto Lestat don't butcher my favorite book!

if jared leto really gets cast as lestat in the vampire chronicles reboot im going to go live on mars

If they cast Jared Leto as Lestat in the IWTV reboot I will refuse to see it. Don't ****ing ruin this character too.

Was having a good morning til I saw Jared Leto is in talks to play Lestat in a new Anne Rice movie. Why don't they just stab me in the heart

Jared Leto is playing Lestat in the new "Interview with a Vampire." How many liters of blood do you think he's already chugged? #Method

If Jared Leto is playing Lestat my advice is for anyone within a hundred-mile radius to wear turtlenecks.

Leto already turned the Joker into trash, he is not going to even breathe on Lestat. NO.

Please don't let Jared Leto play lestat, I don't wanna hear about how he drank only blood for six months to prepare ...

Why is Jared Leto playing Lestat? Someone should hit him over the head with an axe. Oh wait..

It's going to be Lestat with a DAMAGED forehead tattoo. Basically Leto is out to ruin all of my favorite characters.

If Jared Leto abuses his co-actors because he's playing Joker, I don't want to imagine what's going to happen if he ever plays Lestat.

Exactly. Before Suicide Squad people would probably think it's great casting (and it would be great casting)

As well as better choices in mannerisms. The man is obviously a great actor as demonstrated numerous times in other films but yeash was this a miss.

Leto as Lestat was, indeed, a horrible idea. I would've given him the benefit of the doubt based on his previous performances, but now, I just can't .... Like they said, they already let him ruin my favorite comic book villain, and I would've rioted if they were to let them ruin my favorite vampire in literature as well.

I can't wait for that Vampire Chronicles TV series, btw... :woot:

So ... Does anyone think that Leto will actually come back? From the sounds of it, I think he's probably turned off from the whole thing now ... Based on some of the stuff he said on the press tour ...
Let's see what happens when the Razzie Award nominations are announced.

FIGHT NIGHT!

Bald vs Damaged!

MMM Boys! vs HUNKA HUNKA!

Annoying Introvert of Metropolis vs Juggalo of Gotham!

Fat chance. Eisenberg has the proud razzie trophy in the duffel bag.

I don't know. Leto was just as bad, and Eisenberg's character at least benefitted from having a purpose to the narrative.

I can't believe we're even having this conversation. If you told me a year ago we'd be talking about who will take home a razzie between Eisenberg and Luthor, I would've cried

why warner brothers, whyyyyyyyyy

"We have the best villains. Don't we have the best villains, folks? Tremendous tremendous villains, believe me."

Worst supporting actor will go to Jesse (at least Jared tried).
Worst screen combo will go to Cara and her ****ed up dancing moves for Enchantress.

"No one has better villains than us. Marvel's villains are a disaster."

Umm, DC does have the best villaims, and the MCU one suck.

SS disaster withstanding. Mainly due to the absurd bar set by previous DC cinematic villains. Even Eisenberg's performance. It might not be the take you prefer, but it was quirky and even nuanced. And at least he was creepy, threatening and had purpose. Unlike say that annoying, pointless German dude in Civil War.

But do you really want to go there?

Shannon Zod
Traue Faora
Ledger Joker
Hardy Bane
Neeson Ras
Murphy Scarecrow
Pfeiffer Catwoman
Hathaway Selina Kyle
Nicholson Joker

All these characters and performances PISS on anything MCU villain related. What's the next closest competitor? Loki?

:whatever:

You kill me, man.

Eisenberg wasn't quirky, he was just being Eisenberg. We've seen his tired ritual of being neurotic and jumpy in far less lazier performances.

Nuanced? When your acting is the equivalent of screaming so loud to tell people how quiet you are, it's not nuanced.

And at least he was creepy, threatening and had purpose.

He was cringeworthy and a dweeb. Purpose? Yes. Let's give DC a round of applause for at least having the decency of giving their villain that. Because in the next film they even revoke that privilege.

Unlike say that annoying, pointless German dude in Civil War.

Incorrect. Zemo is handled better than Luthor in every way.

But do you really want to go there?

Zod and Faora aren't anything special and the rest are not DCEww.

Razzie people love to give those trophies to Oscar winners and Jared's failure was bigger than Eisnberg or at the very least more people made fun of him which he also made it easier by saying things easier to make fun of than Eisenberg. If I were to bet unfortunately he gets it

Except that's not true. The main people disappointed with Leto's Joker are hardcore Batman fans. He was received just fine by general audiences. More of those jokes and criticisms (from the GA, anyway) were aimed at Eisenberg, so his failure as Lex was definitely bigger.

Wouldn't even call this a failure on Leto's part, honestly.
