Again... This want letos fault. This was ayer not being a great director. This was the studio.. STUDIO.. His movie is nothing but a few moments of okness.... Ayer isnt the director to stand his ground. he may come off that way... But hes not. Leto was that part. But we didnt see it. The studio made sure we disnt because they have no clue what they are doing with DC films....they give their movies to zack syder over and over... Why?!...point being.... They still have no idea what to do. everyone on here... Most everyone... Is calling out leto... Its not him!!!.... This should be an anti—DC WB forum. follow the money... Always follow the money... Thats where the problem is.. Idiot money... Bank cards with no vision... Just wanting to cash in. not leto. and i will give ayer some slack really... But he still wasnt the guy for this.

Whether or not you like tattoos, gotta admire the artistry involved in that.

That is some beautiful artistry

I'm generally a defender of the tattoos, but I do concede as far as execution it left a lot to be desired. For a 150+ million dollar blockbuster, I was hoping to get some top-notch artwork on full display. It seems like Ayer didn't even try, I read in the Art Book they found their main artist at a local street shop whilst they were filming on-location. Strange method of picking the main designer of such an iconic character.

We got some generic line work copy-pasted from any number of those create-a-player sections in video games. Absolutely none of them were unique, clever, or even just aesthetically beautiful. I suppose it's befitting of their interpretation of the character, but still.

And while we're still on topic, figure I'd post up one of my favorite tattoo designs inspired by DC:

I like the design, in motion the damaged tat doesn't bother me that much. However, the design should have been great

If they found there artist in a local street shop and Ayer based his Joker off instagram Cartel gangsters....

Either he really didn't have time to think this through or maybe he went method himself with the randomness of his selections. I guess to illustrate how random his Joker is.

Even though I liked the movie I feel like it would have been much better if they waited and shot for a 2017 date.

I did not like Leto's Joker, but darn it, I want him to have another shot.

Had they/Ayer made Leto's Joker the main antagonist, I think the overall movie would've flowed a lot better.
I agree:up: I wish they had done that.
I would say the only tattoo I truly hate is the "damaged" one. The rest are ok with me.

If I'm correct Gotham was based on Chicago. And if you look at the "chi-raq" criminals the j face tattoo and the the star make total sense to me.
Yeah, I was also ok with the tatoos, except the damaged one which thankfully didn't stand out too much on film and was barely visible most of the time. Like I said before I like that they went with a gangster motif referencing the Joker comic roots but with a modern flair, also reminded me of two other great tattooed cinematic characters De Niro's Max Cady in Cape Fear and Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises.

Same, as long as they give him a redesign, and a serious rewrite of his characterization. Leto's not the problem, its the terrible choices they made with the character.

I can't wait until the Blu-Ray announcement so there's something new to talk about. The well has run dry at this point.

Indeed it has. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed on an announcement pertaining to some sort of Joker cut.

It does but with WB ya can never be too sure.

I really like the teeth on Leto's joker. Its something different and it really makes him that much creepier. I do wish they had given the back story of how he got them, but I wouldn't change anything about Leto's joker. If there is a story that is associated with each tattoo and reason for no eye brows, then I am all for it. The only thing I didn't like is the lack of Leto's joker that we got.
I really hope suicide squad didn't put a bad taste in Leto's mouth and will come back to reprise the role.

Reading the comments here, it would seem like I'm the only one who actually LOVES the design of Leto's Joker; when I first saw it I was like "whaaaa....??", and like 2 minutes later I got over it and love every little detail about it.

I would definitely hate it if they changed anything about the design, particulalry the teeth....you have to keep in mind that they had to "ugly up" Leto, and white make up wouldn't be enough, he's an extremely pretty guy.

And before some "purist" jumps at my throat, the Joker has been my favorite fictional character as far as I can remember, and I deeply enjoyed MANY different interpretations of the character (and there are SO many interpretations), but curiously, from all the live action versions, I feel like this one is the closest to the comics, somehow...don't know how to explain it, it just feels like that to me; for example, before the movie came out I was at the comic book store and saw the "Joker: Endgame" TPB and as soon as I saw the cover I could hear Leto's laughter in my head, of course I bought it (and you should too, it's awesome) and then watching the movie, Leto's Joker felt like that Joker straight out of the page, or viceversa...

Bottom line, I love it and I hope he comes back and stays the same but of course I hope that the editing of whichever movie he shows up in next won't cut out his most extreme scenes and neuter him again (I truly believe that the editing job left his most monstrous side out of the final product, which is a damned shame...)

I agree, I did like the performance enough to be comfortable with him returning to the role. He has the cheekbones and the voice to pull it off. They just need to ditch the "Florida joker" look.

They don't need to. Keep the design and just get Leto in the hands of a more competent (Ben Affleck) director.

I just don't know how they would go about doing it.

I don't think it really needs explaining. Just have him show up in the classic Joker purple suit, with the tattoos on his face and the grill removed, and most people won't bat an eye as long as the movie is good.

For those of you who dislike the teeth, would it appease you if in the batman solo movie, they do a flashback scene of batman beating the **** out of joker after killing Jason Todd and seeing his teeth get knocked out and cracked and showing how joker got the "grill" ? (I still hate calling it a grill, because it isn't really a grill)

I actually don't really hate the grill. If I had my druthers the tattoos would be gone in the next movie, with the character returning to the classic purple suit. Given this, the grill would just look out of place.

But to answer your question, I wouldn't have a big problem if they did what you are suggesting, but I still don't like the shiny silver grill as a replacement for his teeth.

I just wish they had stuck with what the Joker has always looked like, as Leto has the gaunt cheekbones and thin face I've always pictured the character having. He could be the most comic accurate version of the character yet.

What if the grill wasn't as shiny? What if it was dull?
I wasn't sure about the grill at first, but I really think it makes his smile. They couldn't really do yellow teeth...its been done. I think they just tried to reinvent the wheel with his teeth. I like it...I almost wouldn't mind a scene where if they don't show a flash back of how he got his teeth knocked out by batman. Maybe a scene where Joker and Batman meet and talk...Joker takes the grill out and shows batman what he did to him and explains how he is now "Damaged". Would just be really cool to see what is truly underneath that silvery smile.

At this point, I can't see WB getting someone else to take over the role if Leto still wants it. Leto just seems to fit the bill so well with this role and I really want to see him really outdo himself. I mean, we already know the dude is a phenomenal actor.

That could possibly work. Again, my main problem with the grill is that I just think this bright silver mouthpiece would look odd with the direction I want them to go with the character. Granted they're probably not going to change his look from this point, which I can get over, other than the damaged tattoo.

Yeah I think that Leto's performance was good in what little we saw. They definitely need to give him another chance, and I think they will.

I think the grill is the coolest part of Letos joker.

The scene of him in the helicopter shooting the ak the grill stands out and I freaking love it. And he's in a classic tux.

I don't think if you put him in a purple suit that the grill would feel out of place.

The grill is the least annoying part of his design. It still looks stupid but its not as bad as the tattoos, pimp suits, and bling bling jewelry.
