Is he for real? If so, that's awesome. The pistol that we have seen him hold to his own head looked fairly generic, however.

The foundation of Harley's character is that she fell in love with the Joker then CHOSE to be his accomplice. If they take away her choice then they lose an important aspect of the Harley character.

Her ability to make that choice, however, is relative.

She's generally portrayed as having gone round the bend a bit by that point. She's not exactly thinking rationally when she decides to follow The Joker.

I'd imagine the gun would look something like this, but with purple of course.

Of course she's not thinking rationally. The point is Harley fell in love with the Joker and, as the saying goes "people do crazy things when they're in love".

The "mad love" came first then, when Harley was well and truly associated with the Joker, the abuse came but at the point Harley was in too deep and too head over heels in love with him.

Joker played on Harley's sympathy. That's all he did before she became Harley Quinn. Did he intend on turning her to his side? Yes to an extent. Having an Arkham doctor in his pocket would be advantageous for him especially during his stints in Arkham. Did he expect her to fall in love with him like she did? Probably not, though it was an opportunity to see how far he could push her and how far her loyalty to him extended.

Joker did not torture Harley into becoming Harley Quinn. She became Harley Quinn because she loved him. He is her reason to be. As twisted and dysfunctional as the Harley/Joker relationship is, that "love" is the foundation of Harley's character. She is what she is because of her love for him. Having him torture her into becoming Harley Quinn is a massive disservice to the character of Harley.

So... apologize to everyone? :o

God knows he has reason to :o

I think the key there is Deadshot. He really should be a pro's pro. A hired killer for top dollar with ice in his veins... But even he's like, "The Joker is a scary mofo."

I liked how Deadshot showed no fear to Joker in Assault on Arkham. He out crazied the Joker as Boomerang put it.

I'm not so sure. It does look like it from the trailer, however, Harley CHOSE to become Harley Quinn because she fell in love with the Joker after he fed her sob stories and made her sympathise with him. He didn't force her through torture. Her falling in love with him after he tortures her wouldn't makes sense.
It makes as much sense as a rational psychiatrist who decides to go crazy because she digs a patient

I disagree. Harley fell in love with the Joker because she thought he was "misunderstood" and she was the only one could see that. If he tortures her then that only proves that everyone was right about him.

We clearly are gonna see scenes where she's a bit conflicted about it. I remember them filming a scene where Harley still looked like Harleen and she pointed a gun in Joker's face.

have you seen the trailer?
getting hurt really, really bad isn't torture?

:whatever:

She doesn't get tortured in the trailer. What are you talking about?

Threatening her with torture is not the same as actually carrying it out.

I still don't think Harley gets tortured.
I can see it work both ways - if he tortures her and if he doesn't. He didn't hesitate to slap her face, so I don't see why he wouldn't torture her either. Maybe it's some sadistic mind game, that flips her switch.

Maybe, just maybe, and this is the way I'm writing it (a bit of shameless self-promotion once again. It'll be on my page!), it's just after his escape from the Asylum. Harley sprang him in the comics continuity after falling in love with him. Maybe she does the same here, only Joker didn't know at the time who it was who released him and Harley did it indiscreetly. Then, a little while later, Joker realises it was her and has her kidnapped in order to extract the truth from her: that she loves him. In Joker's world, as we know, hurting Harley is a form, at least in Harley's mind, of love. The torture is just the opening stage to a new world, where no matter how much he hurts her, she'll always run back to him.
It would be a cruel spin to the relationship, that she ends up enjoying the pain and loving him even more when she receives it.
How do we know she's even screaming in the trailer, maybe the sick bastard is forcing her to laugh through it, while she's crying...

have you actually seen the trailer?

there's a riot going on there, crazies all over the place.
she gets violently slammed on the table.
she gets strapped to the table with a strap tight in her mouth.
joker's telling her he's going to hurt her really really bad.
he holds 2 electrodes in his hands, getting ready to do something with her.

she was wearing a white lab/doc coat, her glasses and airs a smart doc look. the event takes place clearly far before the actual main story events.
in the main story events she's acting totally opposite of a respectable doc; dressed like a skimpy hooker, unclassy tattoos on her face, blowing bubbles, weird painted hair.

she is damaged as can be. how did she get damaged?
what do you think?

what are YOU talking about?

it's as clear as day she's gonna get tortured. how you or anybody else can remotely think that's not going to happen is rediculous and beyond the most simple logic. its facepalm worthy.

some kintergarten logic to understand:

hey look, looks like picard is getting assimilated

oh hey, later events show an assimilated picard

"MAYBE HE ISN'T GETTING ASSIMILATED DESPITE THE IMAGES SUGGEST OTHERWISE. AND, let's defend this retar....diculous idea by attacking the ones that do maintain logic."

then again, there are tools who think this joker is in reality a former robin.
people are........s-toe-pi with a d.

She doesn't get tortured in the trailer. You're conjecturing without proof.

If Joker were to say he was going to blow up Gotham with an atom bomb in a trailer, that wouldn't mean he'd actually be able to do that in the film.

I am not sure why you have adopted this childishly aggressive tone, but ThePhanstasm is obviously correct to say that no torture occurs in the trailer.

I'm not even saying that she won't be tortured in the film, I'm just saying we don't know.

For all we know, Joker could be about to torture her and then she starts laughing, and he stops, because he's never gotten that reaction before.

Or Batman could interrupt the process, only for Harley to be angry that he did so instead of elated.

Or Joker could just decide "what the heck, I changed my mind."

All kinds of things could happen after the words "really, really bad," and torture is only one of the options.

...or Harley was pinned down and was about to be tortured by someone else, until The Joker comes in, saves her, and then tortures whoever just hurt her.

We're implied with the threat of torture, as well as with Harley's reaction lending itself to that notion. But it never occurs and it may never happen.
