Jared Leto IS The Joker - Part 9

The thing is, I am not even a fan of Harley and I find it hard to believe they would go with the idea that she gets her brain fried or what ever and becomes Joker's moll that way. Again, I kinda hate Quinn but it would be a betrayal of the character and the fans to do that to her in SS. As others have pointed out we don't have full context of the scene so I don't see what is so out there to speculate that the scene plays out another way. But, you keep doing you Manofplastic. ;)

I get where your coming from but I don't think frying her brain is how the joker achieves 100% loyalty from her.
There are relationships that are very destructive, this looks like one of those cases.
On another note, I just came up with a scene. What if we had a scene where the joker is getting interviewed and he tells the killing joke origin, specifically about how he had a wife that he loved that got killed by the mob. Then later in the movie we have a scene with batman and Harley, batman shows harley a file he's gathered on the joker that shows he did have a relationship with a woman but it wasn't his wife. And she wasn't killed by the mob, she was killed by the joker, thanks to a calling card he left behind. This essentially invalidates his story proving he's either lied to her or is too crazy to know his true origin keeping him a creepy mystery. Harley's heart is broken and she
Finds joker to confront him, he sweet talks her in a psycho way "that corpse wasn't as sweet as you Harley" she gets a twisted smile on her face and they make up.

The whole torture thing can go either way. I don't think it's THE thing that creates their relationship, purely because Ayer seems adamant on staying true to the comics.

We will probably get some scenes where Harleen treats Joker in Arkham and there's a "thing" that grows between them.

Another theory. Perhaps Harley is already in love with the Joker. Sure, he's poisoned her mind, and she falls in love with him during their sessions, but does that mean she's insane? That just because she falls for the psycho, she instantly becomes one herself?
This "torture" may be Harley's induction to the world of madness and this is how Joker is able to get away with the way he treats her. The pain and abuse he gives her, she interprets it as his expression of love, because he's corrupted her mind further through the "torture".
It looks like he's going to give her electroshock therapy in the trailer..is that really torture? Because that kind of thing is supposed to help people through their mental problems. Joker saying he's going to hurt her...is that because he wants to do damage with just the intent of causing pain, or because in truth, that's what electroshock therapy does anyway, despite its effectiveness in treatment? :hmm

Killing Joke?

The hat and shorts combo is undoubtedly a reference to the graphic novel. Beyond that, what Leto is trying to say here is anyone's guess. It could be that he's just having a bit of fun or something else entirely.

He's hiking in California. Not much to read into.

Yeah, and wasn't he seen wearing a boonie hat when not filming on the set?

Anyone else hoping that leto keeps a diary of joker lore during filming like heath?

Was that ever published? I would be interested to read it.

Heath's family will most likely never publish it out of respect for Heath. The diary does feature in a documentary where you can catch glimpses of the contents.

I don't see why posthumously publishing something is disrespectful; indeed, it happens all the time.

It's more or less just to make money though. However, I could imagine Kim to do it purely for Heath's fans, because he seems that type of guy.

Right, so it wouldn't be "just to make money", as he had many admirers as an actor, and they are interested in his craft.

Yeah, that is different because it's in Kim's hands.

I'm just going on what Michael Jackson's estate does to him. Release his unfinished music that he didn't want anybody to listen to. That's not because of people wanting to admire him, it's because of greed. It's the same with many posthumous releases.

That's a good theory and it does make sense. Actually it fits with what Joker says yet explains why Harley is in love with him. Good call.

I think they had it on display at a Heath Ledger exhibit in an Australian museum at one point.

I think that's what it probably is as well. He doesn't do anything to make her fall for him, that's already happened. He just gives her that extra little push into total madness. Her pain turns to pleasure, and her screams turn to laughter :p

I did theorise a few pages back that the "torture" was Joker's warped twisted version of "helping" Harley such as "freeing" her from the confines of morality etc. However the line "I'm just gonna hurt you really really bad" seemed to contradict that idea.

Your theory of it being electroshock therapy fits everything together. The Joker has probably experienced electroshock therapy during his many stints in Arkham and has probably been told it would "help" him. He is now "helping" Harley via the same method only he's not going to sugar coat it. It is going to hurt.

It also explains why Harley sticks by him.

Yeah. ECT is designed to help pull patients out of their psychosis. If Joker has been tempting Harley to follow him into his world, then ECT is the perfect induction of allowing her to be free from the constraints of sanity, which he believes is the true insane aspect of life.

I agree, and the same can be said about Nolan withholding behind the scenes material of Heath. But in the end, the family owns the diary. Who knows, maybe his daughter will release it when she's all grown up.

Maybe in a couple years when the TDK trilogy celebrates its ten year anniversary, they'll release a new box set with more BTS interviews and docs.

It's an award-winning performance, and we only got to hear Heath talk about it a handful of times. It'd be a nice tribute to him to hear more about how he shaped the character (methods, preparation, etc).
