I think that there probably will be a good sized amount of alteration to the Aquaman/DC Atlantis mythos for the practicality of filming a solo film if we get one. I just seems there are some big hurdles to get over, as others have pointed out.
Perhaps the Atlanteans don't have to be in water continuously as is the case in the comics. Much like the JL toon episodes they can have cities that are separate from the open water? Maybe they have humid, almost jungle like environments inside? This would allow for dialog scenes that don't have to have all parties under water. I also think that Aquaman's weakness to have to be in Ocean water, or at least wet on an hourly basis should be done away with for him. Make it that he could live on land indefinitely. That way you get some actual tension as to what his choice will be between Atlantis and the surface. Transfer the hourly thing to the Atlanteans themselves, which is why their cities are indeed such humid jungles. I also think that Aquaman on film should just have some straight up mind to mind telepathy to humanoids as well. I'm not saying he should be able to delve into minds and control people like Prof. X or J'onn, but certainly simple communication and perhaps a low level empathic sense to go along with his power over aquatic life. As mentioned, there's lots to consider with a live action adaptation and finding ways to cut costs or enhance the character and story of Aquaman should be looked at, even if it means some changes from the fan accepted mythos.
