Comics Joe Q is an idiot

So Peter will never be allowed to date any woman ever again? Blech. That's just too awful for words.

I don't think it would get that drastic... he'd pine for MJ for years before...

a) moving on...

B) another EIC comes in and makes "changes" to the new status quo, perhaps reuniting the couple.

:csad:

But why would he move on? Wouldn't he be putting yet another woman in perilous danger?

I could accept Peter recourting MJ partly because their original courtship left a lot to be desired (living with BC in ASM 289 and proposing to MJ in 290?). But there has to be a payoff of reunion, which will probably never happen unless another EIC, as you suggest, takes over.

Well he moved on from his "can't let people know who I am or people I love will get hurt re Gwen Stacy" stance!!..*sigh* :(

Well....whether he moved on with his wife or another lady.....i hope MArvel makes sure he is not married before moving on with another woman and not just "forgetting" he is married. LOL

Plus, why will any of us truly CARE if he dates, because it can NEVER go anywhere substantial with a "no marriage" rule anyway. It'd be empty and pointless dating....unless he is just Peter-Sleep-Around like Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne or something.

If he puts his wife in danger, he can't have any "friends" either...because the "spectre of spider-man" by that logic must come between him and everything!

BUT....I AM SURE JQ IS THROWING US MANY CURVE BALLS AND HE IS GOING TO SOLIDIFY THE MARRIAGE DESPITE WHAT HE HAS SAID!

Yep... his identity will be known to no one... until Batman comes along, pieces all the clues together, and figures it out.

And in that cross-over event....Marvel could give Bats Organic bat-a-rang shooters too!!! :cwink:

I suppose, but the reason he was ok marrying MJ was because he knew that it was her decision to accept the risk and be with him. She had known he was Spider-Man all along and was able to deal with it. He was also originally ok with dating BC because he believed she had superpowers that would protect her. When he found out she didn't, he tried to break it off (leading to her desperate, mad rush to go get powers from the Kingpin).

So if Pete does date again after a mindwipe (assuming he remembers), it likely would have to be a super (unlikely since he doesn't want his ID out in the hero community) or a "normal" that willingly accepts Pete's ID. And if the latter's the case, then why not just have MJ? Sheesh.

And I totally agree on the "pointless dating" argument because it'll never go anywhere, so why bother? There's no challenge of "will they or won't they?" because we know it'll never happen anyway.

I think the whole "Spectre of Spider-Man" keeps Peter from the woman he loves angle will have enough "Peter pining over MJ" stories to keep him from dating for YEARS...

:csad:

Who is actually gonna stick around to see Pete pine over his (mindwiped)wife tho??

He has already dated her and married her and had her in his life. She is probably in MORE danger NOT being in his life now or ever. Pete knows this from every other time he has thought it would be better to be apart, give up Spidey, etc.

Any sort of scenario that forces them apart to be married friends or (re)date eventually...is just....forced.

It's like squeezing all the toothpaste outta the tube and then trying to put it back in again. It is pointless and futile.

If JQ wants MJ gone SSOOO badly (the marriage).....then go the divorce route or kill her...(although both would TICK ME OFF).....any alternative will cause even more harm than good.

At least, if they're divorced (which i am SO against) ((I love MJ))...Pete can eventually move on. (well, not really, because any relationship would not be allowed to go anywhere) If they're alive, married, but don't remember it.....that just creates a sticky situation making Pete a smuck.

Well, the Spectre of Spider-Man has ALWAYS come between Peter Parker and the women he loves... going all the way back to Betty Brant. He was about to tell her his identity until she got mad at Spider-Man for the death of her brother. In JQ's eyes, this is a perfect thing to happen because it just smacks of old school Stan Lee Spider-Man...

She'd be around as a good member of Spidey's supporting cast, alongside Betty Brant, Aunt May, Flash Thompson, JJJ, etc... And of course, Marvel would have plenty of stories that could last years of him pining to be with her, but he musn't touch the forbidden fruit so as to not spoil it (by exposing her to his enemies and such). He'll love her til the day he dies, but he musn't be with her because he's Spider-Man... it's his gift, it's his curse. They can weave this alongside the movies...

It's almost too glorious an opportunity for Marvel to pass up... because if done properly, we as readers will once again feel Peter's pain as Spider-Man prevents him from being with the girl he loves...

:csad:

But now everyone knows that Peter is Spider-Man, so they are already exposed to his enemies.
Also, how do we expect Peter to start dating again after him and MJ's marrage ending after 30 years? It would just seem wierd to me.
It's too late to fix the marrage problem.

Thats how I feel. Anyway didn't marvel try killing her off before and then having him date Jill Stacy afterwards already? And look at how dissasterous that turned out. Joey Q obviously has not learned from the past.

And I might add....MJ (was written) to be QUITE supportive of this (unmasking) as was Aunt May. (re-reading the Civil War trades, i feel many characters, not jsut spidey, are written out of character for the sake of the "event")

The writers can't have it both ways....write a forced thing depending on the "Event". Pete is ok with anyone knowing/pete isn't. I know a person can waffle on stuff..but sheesh...

Pete is ok with the whole world knowing...and may possibly suddenly wants to protect his (mindwiped) wife by not dating her or something and keeping things secret??..

They better tread carefuly in One More Day or many fans are gonna be dropping off Spidey comics like flys.

I almost start wondering HOW WILL spidey act in the next EVENT ARC since it seems to often not be in continuity of how'd he act previously or historically.

I'm pretty sure after this I'll strictly be reading Spider-girl. Defalco was always my favorite Spider-man writer anyway.

I dunno, personally i liked the whole love triangle thing with Jill Stacy, it was really getting interesting until JMS came and COMPLETELY deleted her from the Marvel universe. I hope she comes back, i would love to see her perspective on the unmasking.

Jessica Drew...they were pretty flirty in one or two of the first couple of NA issues....not saying I want that...I want MJ to stay put...just saying it's possible

I have a feeling, that if they mess with MJ (like before) to further JQ's agenda to get her away from Pete by whatever means....herds of fans will be dropping the book.

If he disallows this marriage...any future dating is a moot point also....totally pointless. It will have been made loud and clear by JQ that things can go nowhere.

Nor do i want to see Pete ever "date" MJ again. We've done that already.

I guess we're going to have to wait and see how this plays out...

Pretty much. I'll save my anger for the story, should it be lackluster, or just another "SHOCK" event. I'd like to see a well-written farewell by JMS, personally. Also, JQ is known for his misdirection and misleading comments, so I'm just going to interpret his sasnine little comments as such, until I see them come to fruition...then I'll gripe and complain like always.:cwink:

haha....yeh, we just need to wait. JQ will prolly do something WAY WORSE and more OVER THE TOP than anything he's alluded to so far.

Than we can get back on (here) and break it down point by point...

Unless, of course, this has all been misdirection and he and JMS go out in classy style, solidifying the marriage.

How does a MORON like that land an Editor In Chief position?

Apparently he's been watching Charlie Brown movies parts I II & III in his head.
Doesn't leave room for much else.

Maybe JQ will have Pete's head shaved bald during One More Day.............to better RESEMBLE Charlie Brown & to help his enemies not recognize him??

He could debut a new Spidey outfit too....a yellow one....with a black zig zagged spider on it across his abdomen!!

Might as well retcon Sandman some more too, change his name to Pigpen.

:woot:

Sweet. good stuff.

I love any thread w/ the words Joey Q & idiot in them because I feel so strongly on this issue.

I am not fond of JQ....i think he has done some good for Marvel....but he has also turned a lot of stuff into BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS.....BIG ARCS......BIG EVENTS..........BIG WRITER/ARTIST ARCS.....BIG OUT OF CHARACTER SHOCK AND AWE......

I am more and more missing the good old days where Spidey was Spidey...and i'd get 12 issues a year and an annual. Back when there was respect for the fan, for continuity, and less SHOCK.

I also like the supporting cast back then, intertwining stories (hobgoblins identity for instance went on a long time, talked about here and there...slowly built up) There was a real sense of excitement without making every little thing a BIG SHOCKING EVENT or STORY ARC with it's own story arc "title".

It's like we're back to the 90's...when everything was a shiny new wrap around cover with prisms and diamonds and awe. All just FLUFF to entice people into COLLECTING FOR PROFIT...not for reading for fun.

Now we're back to JQ wanting to entice little kids into buying a non aged spidey. Which is what i thought Ultimate was for..??!!

LOL, haven't you people figured out yet that Joey Q is the face of all evil in the MU?

He'll have Pete 'swing' again. Yup, on to the Black Cat/MJ wars all over again! We can toss in Betty Brandt for spice, not to mention a still confused Sarah...

Speaking of which. The 'baby' he'll introduce will be the 'twins' de-aged to infant size. Now Pete will have LOADS of diapers to change and mush to make. Lots of hot plots there! Little Sarah and Gabriel, left in a basket on the front steps...way to go!

And then...
Pete discovers he's Reed Richard's illegitimate son, thusly explaining the brain power.

Peter then defeats the Great Weaver and Omm, thereby becoming the supreme Spider God.

(meanwhile an angry mob storms Marvel Inc. with torches, feathers and tar...)

It is an interesting point. Why not just make Ultimate as the main line to get new readers hooked in with and let Peter continue to grow in the 616 universe.
