The Dark Knight Joker's real name

You might run the risk of someone actually saying Joseph Kerr being really, really cornball.

Jack Napier is close to the same level as Joe Kerr. I feel Jack Napier is clearly a reference to Jackanapes.

jackanapes

c.1449, "a monkey," also "an impertinent, conceited fellow;" apparently from Jack of Naples, but whether this is some specific personification or folk etymology of jack (n.) + ape is unknown.

  1. A conceited or impudent person.
  2. A mischievous child.
  3. Archaic A monkey or an ape.

    Jack of Naples- Jack Napier

Burton's Joker was clearly conceited, impudent, and rather mischievous to say the least. Pretty cheesy.

Take your pick:

Ben Dover
Seymour Butts
Jack Mehoff
Howie Feltersnat(#

I think the closest thing to a name we have in the canon is when Joker's cousin calls him "Cousin Ja--" and Joker interrupts him and says "It's cousin Joker now." And I could've sworn one writer turned the Ja-- that everyone assumes is for Jack into Jasper. But at DC Comics, his name is officially unknown.

I'm sure it's already been said on the thread, but remember when Gordon hands Bats the card and the file says Joseph Kerr? I think it was the officer's name too? That was weird.

J Kerr cant work because that was the detective's name that found the evidence.

Ok, I was right. That's so odd, I wonder if that was just a little wink to the fans or if that actually will have something to do with the story.

Btw, isn't one of the episodes of The Batman credited to a writer named Joseph Kuhr?

Wonder if anyone else caught that.

I don't watch the Batman so I really don't know but I can say that I never liked the Jack Napier name.

hasnt the name jack always been associated with the joker in the comics neways?
examples from wiki...

The story "Pushback" (Batman: Gotham Knights # 50-55), recounts that the Joker's wife was kidnapped and murdered by the criminals in order to force the engineer into performing the crime. In this version, the pre-accident Joker is called Jack

2007 story arc in Batman Confidential, written by Michael Green, shows a pre-transformation Joker giving his first name as "Jack".

In the graphic novel Batman: Detective No. 27, Jack Napier, is one of the two thugs responsible for the death of Wayne's parents, and pawn of the late Carr's scheme. Both speak the line "Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?", taking inspiration from the earlier film interpretation of the character.

and jack napier wasnt just in the burton movies either, the name was used in mask of the phantasm

im a 90's kid who grew up with the name jack napier and i wouldnt mind it being used in this franchise

So I guess Jack Napier won't be approved

Yeah, maybe if this was Burton's film. The name Jack Napier is a Tim Burton creation and is not affiliated with DC comics or the Joker's origins.

Not sure, but I think it might have also been used in TAS.

I also remember someone posting a couple months ago, something that had the name Jack Reipan (Napier backwards), anyone remember what that was about?

Jack Napier was used as a name in B:TAS and the Reipan thing was the last name of the Joker's cousin in the comics.

The origin for Tim Burton's Joker was connected with Batman's.
He also became the Joker during the movie and necessarily they had to come up with a name.

But unless we don't see Joker's whole origin explained in TDK I don't see why his real name should be mentioned... that's what makes this character interesing.

The name "Jack" most likely comes from:

1. The "jack" in a deck of cards.
2. Jack Nicholson :woot:
