A Justice League movie won't be like the Avengers, simply because the Justice League stories put a lot of importance about concepts such as truth, justice and trust. It's not simply about saving the world, it's also about inspiration. Which could lead to a great pop corn movie with depth.

Cloud Atlas could win Oscars but it's an ambitious sci-fi/fantasy film so it's not 'Oscar Bait'. I hope.

Oh, I was talking about it terms of release dates rather than the type of film it is. I can see the WB execs wanting to take a chance of that opportunity.

On the surface to the GA it will look similar. They'll only find any of that stuff out once they've already made the decision to watch the film.

Yeah, and it's not exactly going to be marketed as a film about justice, truth and trust either. WB will idealy want the same audiences that went for the Avengers.

So I guess the Avengers movie is only a themeless alien invasion movie.

The Avengers was all that and then some.

I agree. I also don't think WB is interested in making a superhero team-up movie with depth; they just want the money that The Avengers have generated at the box office. If TA had failed, I doubt WB would've been so quick to announce a writer for JLA.

Mark Millar's at it again.

A pal of mine is good friends with the new Justice League screenwriter and said his take on the team is incredible. Very real-world and not at all what you might expect. WB has a chequered history with their superhero characters. They're great with their boy wizards, but less consistent with their DC stable. But my chum said that this could be a thing of beauty and has been in the works for a little while now, not just an avengers knock-off. Best of luck to them. The tidbits I heard sound quite dark and mature, which isn't what I expected. But word on Gangster Squad is great too so I feel this is in really good hands.

There could be a meme about Mark Millar, it could be like the Chuck Norris facts but even more sad and pathetic.:o

If they do this movie without Superman and Batman, it will seem like a second-rate movie and more of a knock off. Wonder Woman would lend some weight, but not as much as having Superman and Batman. With those two, sure there will be comparisons with the Avengers, but those characters should silence any detractors and should be a draw in themselves.

Just having Superman and Batman on screen together would be enough to get people in in droves.

I just don't think DC has a solid enough handle on the individual films to do a JL movie.

Dude, it isn't DC that has the problem. It's WB. Had DCE been a separate studio like Marvel Studios then that be a different story.

They'd have their hands full trying to get World's Finest off the ground.

Not really.

I swear, people think the concept is like Quantum Cryptology. It's not. The issue here is how WB plans on establishing DC's universe without coming off as a Marvel ripoff.

They should just not worry about whether they seem like a rip off and go for it. Even if they had a solid plan to seem distinctly different from Marvel, when the film comes out, audiences could still be saying "Marvel ripoff". I honestly don't care if the Justice League seem like they're completely jumping on the bandwagon because everyone else does that all the time, and it's never stopped studios, directors, actors, singers etc before.

Agreed.

Eh.... Either way they'd have to deal with Geoff Johns, whose changes to the Green Lantern script hurt the movie.

Me personally, I would prefer if WB not follow Marvel Studios. They already tried that with Green Lantern, and the end result was not impressive. I believe if WB is serious about wanting big bucks from Justice League, then a director with a unique vision is needed.

Especially because his contribuitions to the Script amount to small notes about dialogue and portrayal of the aliens.

We all know what happened to Green Lantern.

What does following Marvel Studios have to do with the unimpressive results?

I think the problem with Geoff Johns' contribute in GL is the problem with DCE as a whole: they just don't have much influence within WB to do anything. However, the perception is that DCE helped screwed up GL, and I believe this is the reason why after GL bombed, we hardly heard anything about this "consulting" outlet for DC's CBM, and even in MOS we have Nolans being heavily involved, but zero input from DCE. I have a feeling that WB will do the same for JLA movie.

The problem with Green Lantern was that the script was passed around like a cheap ****e as well as Warner Brothers sticking their dick in the broth.

And then even after that a third of the movie was cut.
