What argument? Outside of TDK the Avengers has been pretty much celebrated as the best comic book movie of all time. And you can make a case for Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America being better films than Burton's Batman, Donner's Superman, and obviously the atrocious Green Lantern.

Yeah I dont get the idea that separate universe=overall better films

Throughout the day we have been posting news about the new Justice League movie.

Now we are here to reveal all we have been told!

Here we go:

• Our source tells us that the major developments are underway at DC Entertainment — and Man of Steel will spearhead it all.

• Man of Steel will be chapter #1 of a shared universe, it will all bend around that film.

• In chronological terms, Man of Steel is the first.

• Henry Cavill will be given a new contract after Man of Steel that would probably include a pay raise along with his new terms that feature Justice League and subsequent sequels.

• Lobo will be the second movie after Man of Steel, and is said to take place off Earth and won't affect any of the other films.

• The Flash and Wonder Woman (Nicolas Winding Refn is expected to be directing) scripts will be spin-offs from Justice League that should be released summer 2014/2015, and The Flash will be rewritten to fit around events that will transpire in Justice League.

• Ryan Reynolds will be expected to reprise his role as Green Lantern, and the events that transpired in his film - although they won't be ignored in Justice League, they won't be acknowledged either. It will sort of be hints to his backstory, and the character will be more serious than in the solo film (more like how he was towards the end of the film).

• The Green Lantern sequel has a treatment but the situation is unclear. It most likely will be brought to a stage where it is near getting the green light, and will be held there until things become clearer where that franchise is headed.

• The rebooted Batman film (won't be an origin story, but will focus on a Batman who is entering his second year as a hero) will be a part of the same universe.

• The details plot-wise for Justice League are unknown, but a couple comic book writers have penned the treatment that Will Beall will be scripting.

• The budget for Justice League will be around $270 million.

• DC are looking to release 2 films a year. So expect something like this:

Man of Steel (2013). Zack Snyder; David Goyer & Christopher Nolan; Henry Cavill.

Lobo (2014). Brad Peyton; TBA.

Justice League (2015). TBA.

The Batman (2016).

Wonder Woman (2016). TBA (Most Likely Nicolas Winding Refn); Michael Goldenberg.

The Flash (2017). TBA; Greg Berlanti, Marc Gruggenheim & Michael Green; TBA.

• Justice League is David Yates' to lose; he is the heavy favorite to become director of the movie.

• The look of the film will not be as colorful or as bright as Marvel's The Avengers — which looked like a comic book in real life.

• Justice League will look like an epic blockbuster film in tone with The Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel, which is something Warner Bros. is keen on — to avoid similarities with The Avengers.

• Christopher Nolan is "godfathering" the project from a distance, meaning more or less Warner Bros. went to him and asked his opinions and how he would he do things. He may well be credited as an Executive Producer on the film with wife Emma Thomas.

If true, then :wow:.

Wow thats quite the list I hope it all happens.

It would be interesting if it wasn't coming from that website.

Well good to hear they are pushing forward on the JL movie. But is Batman going to be a spin-off from Justice League then, since his rebooted movie will fall after that film?

Also, the thing is that, if anyone should have brighter colours, it should be DC. I don't get this dark tone similar to the Dark Knight and Man of Steel that they want for Justice League. JL is a bright book and they are all very classic heroes that should look like a comic book in real life. I'm not looking forward to the muted colours. If people want dark colours they can go and watch Bryan Singer's X-Men.

Why are they so obsessed about making themselves so different from the Avengers? Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman have been in the public consciousness for over 50 years, so it's not like someone just came up with a bunch of brand new heroes to cash in on the Avengers craze.

Im wondering the same thing and the idea of David Yates directing isnt that far fetched he seems like a good choice I never cared for the Potter film but from what it seems fans liked him.

Yates is a very believable choice. He helped make a lot of money for WB as well as giving them a good number of critically acclaimed and fan liked movies

Even if that's not true that should essentially be what they need to do. Except I'd have the rebooted Batman before the Justice League.

It'll test the waters with the rebooted Batman.

You know what, even if I thought that the website had a legit source, at this point I would still think it was mostly useless PR or a wish list from someone at DCE right now.

Sure you are, because trying to be totally different from TA is why you announced it 1 month after that film grossed over $1bn WW :D

I wish I believed any of that was even remotely true.

I'm talking about better from an overall film perspective. Look Avengers was a fun ride, but it wasn't this ground breaking piece of story telling or even a ground breaking piece of cinema, it was an entertaining ride that was executed fantastically and deserved the money it got at the box office. But the results for Nolan's desire to self-contain Batman speaks for itself. With no (or few) restraints he's been able to craft three very different movies, each with a unique and compelling story that is full of depth and great character arcs that require multiple viewings. There is no-way we get TDK or TDKR if Nolan was told by WB to go in a specific direction for a DC universe. We'll see with Man of Steel next year what happens when the objective is to treat each characters movie as it's own universe but I fully expect that film to also set itself apart. And I'm sorry, Thor and Captain America are still not in the same league as Donner's Superman.

I respect your opinion on Donner's Superman being better than Thor, Cap, and IM but they all seem to be considered in the 7/8 out of 10 range so like I said you can make a case any of the above films were better received or at the same level. Personally, I think Superman was a little overrated and has aged poorly but obviously people do share and disagree with that.

Also disagree about the Avengers not being groundbreaking. Being the first to combine the efforts of four major franchise carrying properties while providing some of the best choreographed action scenes I've seen in a long time; while continuing all of the individual character story arcs makes a movie that in all likelihood will be more memorable than Superman: The Movie, Burton's Batman, and pretty much every other superhero movie besides TDK.

Seems to me like your using the Nolan films as a rule, when it should be considered as an exception.

Look, I'm not going to argue about Avengers, it is what it is, doesn't try to be anything else and it doesn't apologise for it, which is fine. There's no one way to do a movie which is perfectly ok. That said, the quality of the films Nolan's produced is an indication of what can happen if you just leave the characters alone in their own universe and don't 'save' things for later, he just wants to make the best damn movie possible and that's how it should be and I'm all for that, I'm not one for holding things back because of something else down the line. For all the aweomeness that Avengers is, it really shows how lacking the solo films are in comparison with the exception of IM1. I'm hoping with the self-contained mindset Nolan and Synder have place on Superman that Man of Steel next year will really stand out and deliver, and if the results are of a similar level to TDK trilogy then that will further back up the argument that separate universes leads to a better overall film.

Yates as a member of the group is a good idea as he is a solid director.

The rumour is basically too good to be true and waaayyy too detailed so Im not really buying it. Plus, Nolan involved isnt new.

Regardless, the heart of it is in the right place. They need to do their own thing and its clear they have found a good formula.

Nolan at some point made a comment about the dc library of characters being different than the marvel ones and their individuality being a key element of their iconic imagery. If he is indeed godfathering these projects, then this is the way its going to go. Marvel does the comic book movie thing real well, and DC shoudl do their epic blockbuster of these legends in the real world.

DC characters are extraordinary beings in an ordinary world. Gods/myths/legends among us if you will and there is a whole lot you can do when delivering that kind of material in terms of tone and epicness. A serious enactment of a legendary iconic figure in todays world should be the formula to follow.

Were staring to see a shift, a weird shift. DC was always looked at as the more comic bookie one out of the two for ages while marvel is more real world, yet in the movie scene were starting to see the opposite. Its this beautiful synergy that will keep these pop culture myths/legends and industry in the minds of fans for the rest of humanities existence.

So we're supposed to believe that the second film in their fancy new shared universe is Lobo? C'mon.

It's not really part of the shared Universe. It's just there.
