I wouldn't be surprised if this actually happened. I mean the shared universe beginning with MoS, not the Wonder Woman thing.

Not sure your understanding the way studios do their bottom line and how that dictates what they make..but it doesn't matter. LOL!

That would be most of the fun if your only going for a small portion of the audience. Such as the comic book lovers. But even then your going to want a strong CHARACTER driven movie. It's not enough to have just guys running around in spandex. Much of the fleshing out of the characters were already done in the individual marvel character movies.
"Neither Harvey Dent nor Joker were established in The Dark Knight, you jumped right into the middle of Harvey's Mayoral campaign and Joker terrorising Gotham. Different circumstances, but the principle is the same."
Of course harvey was established in "TDK". He's the heart and soul of the movie and the only one to really have an 'arc'. So much so that he is pretty much the reason for the "Dark Knight Rises".
And the principal is entirely different. Your not talking about a TEAM movie there. Your talking about individuals in an individual movie. BATMAN.

Well there we sort of agree. Although your kinda making my point. Superman as well as Batman have a story that has been told time and time again. IF you were going to make a Superman/Batman team up, then I would say you would have something. Which I think is the better way to go. BUT...since we're not talking JUST of those TWO ESTABLISHED characters...then you need to have a telling of those other characters stories. You can't just have them thrown in there, or tell their stories in five minute each segments. Thats pretty lame. AND THATS what I mean about 'cutting corners.'
The public will reject that. As they should. Their being denied a good story about a team of INTERESTING individual characters, for the sake of an easy buck (that ultimately wont make their money back.)
And it doesn't matter that some of them "grew up on an animated series of the JLA. Who cares? You still can't just have a character like "Hawkman"---just BE there. LOL! Your banking a movie upwards of 200= MILLION dollars on the hopes that everyone has seen the animated JLA?
...comon.

Yes. Exactly. Individual INTERESTING storylines that was only made possible because NO TIME had to be wasted on the telling of WHO these characters are and WHAT they are all about. That time was already spent in each characters individual movies. And done WELL. Even LOKI's story was told in "THOR". LOL!
Which just goes to my point that you don't want to eat up valuable (and expensive) movie time during the TEAM movie, fleshing out each character (batman and supes aside.)
You can't cut corners in this case. Its too risky to do that and really not all that wise on a story front.

Your talking about a studio making a 400 MILLION DOLLAR movie (200mill to make and about 200mill to market) and do it on the cheap of how the Avengers did it.

Now you can maybe just throw in Hawkman and just gloss over his story. But you can't do that with "Grean Lantern". You SURE CAN'T do that with WOnderWoman. And what about the Flash? Jeez!!! You cut corners there and you are making a very expensive "B" movie. Thats not what I want. And neither do you.
And your basing all your cut corners on the hopes that Batman and Superman thrown in will help people not see the lazy after thought development of the other MAJOR characters.
AND your hoping that the very NAME of Batman and Superman will sell it alone.
Lets not forget that both characters had MAJOR bombs at the box office. And BOTH characters names couldn't sell it alone.

One has to love these characters enough to resist their inner fan-boy to 'just get something out there'! Enough to give these characters that have been around for generations...the time they deserve.

I pretty much disagree with everything you say.
Who says having individual movies leading up to a Justice League movie is the right way?
Superman and Batman's origin have been told so many times, do we really need to see that again? Sure we can, but it won't be told in a justice league movie.
Likewise, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern all had their origins stories told to the mass audience. I doubt we would have to go through that all in the Justice League movie.
The movie don't have to show anyone's origins, we've already seen that before. Thats one advantage DC has over Marvel. DC heroes are household names. Everyone knows who Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman is. This Justice League movie could simply be how these heroes meet each other for the first time and fight a greater evil. Is there a need to have a 2 hour movie leading to Justice League showing how Wonder Woman came from Themyscira? I dont think theres a need. a quick display of how WW came about like what the new 52 did or Justice League animated series did would do. We also don't really need to show Flash's origin. We don't need to know that Flash had a terrible accident in a lab and doused in chemical to wake up and find out that he has these super powers where he can run really fast and faces captain cold then earning a badge to join justice league. Just like how we did not need to know Storm used to be a slave or something in africa. We also did not need to know Wolverine has a arch nemesis called sabertooth and how he got his powers.
A good script can be done to showcase each individual's strengths and powers and we don't really need to know their origins at all. That being said its not even sure if we would get a justice league movie. But in the event that we do get one, I don't need 4 films to lead up to Justice League. I don't need to know how every superhero got his powers and faces their arch nemesis.

Basically, there's only one data point, and it points towards "build up with prior movies." You can claim that one data point is too few to draw a firm conclusion ( which is broadly true ), but you can't argue strongly for the opposite position, because you have no evidence for it.

It's a mixed bag if that rumor is true.
First off I mean if Man of Steel is successful than obviously they'll fastrack the sequel for 2015.
But onto the points on the rumor:
1) It's a good idea if they actually take the time to make the films good. No more Green Lanterns, no more Superman Returns type situations.
2) I'm glad if theyre gonna use the time to make a good shared universe.I still think the idea of introducing 7 heroes in one film is a beyond stupid, risky idea. So if theyre gonna make solo films first. I'm all for it.

They did. Didn't Hal said to his nephew that he should return to his "Superman Birthday Party". I took that as the kid is having a Superman themed birthday party but I can't recall if we actually see it.

hey man, if they can make watchmen, a team movie with characters no one has ever heard before except fans of the comic, than they can damn well make a JLA movie. people who don't read comics, nor watched any of the animated series, probably know all the main characters due to pop culture. batman, superman, wonder woman, flash, and green lantern are all household names as far as i'm concerned.

What about Lobo that was rumored to have Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. I was getting excited about that.
I really think Lobo and Metal Men are exempt from that. They aren't big superhero blockbusters that tie into Justice League.

Given that Watchmen was a box office fizzle, you pick a poor comparison. And you *vastly* overestimate the exposure of DC characters not Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman.

The other characters don't need exposure beforehand. They have Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman...
That link's from Cosmic Book News, not Comic Book Movie. I agree, the latter used to be pretty unreliable, but they've gotten a lot better in recent years. Its beyond me why all links are banned from here, it comes across pretty childish.

Think of it like this:
A team like the Fantastic 4 or Watchmen are comparable to the Miami Heat. They have a lot of good players. They're exciting to watch. They're a good team. Now imagine The Avengers or the Justice League as an NBA All-Star team, they also have a lot of good players, they're also exciting to watch, and they're also a good team. The difference between the two is that less people would give a damn about the NBA All-Star team if the members weren't already established stars on their own teams. That's the whole point of an NBA All-star team, the fact that they come from completely different places and team up together creates a dynamic that wouldn't exist if the players were already on the same team. Now, A Justice League movie without movies leading up to it could probably work, just don't try to advertise it as an "NBA All-Star Team" like The Avengers was because that type of schtick doesn't work if they already start out together.
