Justice League Status Updates Thread - Part 2

They have to avoid the laughable casting if they want people to invest in the solo movies & Guardians Of The Galaxy is the MARVEL wild card right now

Is this thread not redundant now that there exists a JL section on shh?

The spin-off strategy is wierd, but having the actors in JL be different then the solo movies could work. Make a JL movie, a JSA movie, several solo movies, then bring it all together for a CRISIS MOVIE! That could be AWESOME!

I was being kind of tongue-in-cheek about it but I guess that kinda slipped past you.

Yes, yes it did.

Not really, it makes a lot of sense actually. Have the people get invested in the characters in a JL movie, then have that interest and investment carry over to the solo movies so they have a guaranteed audience.

JJ Abrams has to take a break from Star Trek after the upcoming sequel, and team up some DC heroes.
But I guess it would be even greater if we got Ridley Scott or Steven Spielberg. (Jackson is BUSY with Bilbo trilogy and directing next Tintin).

Or why not Oliver Stone? Alexander the Great proved that he can do overblown epic adventures with a lot of characters.

Now that the JL adaption seems to be set in stone... things heat up and we have to come up with directors big enough for something of this scale. Remember the claims that this is going to be more serious than Avengers. JL isn't a job for just anyone. It requires the big elephants

Alexander was epic, but I thought the character development etc wasn't interesting. The pacing was awful.

This has disaster written all over it, but I really hope Im wrong. They better hope MoS turns out to be a megahit (800 million plus worldwide). Anyone who assumes this project will be successful is going way beyond "glass half full" optimism.

All of WB's plans for the future, including a JL movie, will hinge on what happens the 2nd week in June next year. The rest is blather. Their existing "plan" is nothing of the sort.

someone has to be smoking something serious if you think Ridley Scott or Spielberg will direct this. Both have a lot on their plates.

somebody comics credible has to be involved at various levels- producer, screenwriter, director. Get Geoff Johns involved for sure, and Jim Lee for costume design. They need to have a solid core team based on the Nu-52, and include several credible villains- the Legion of Doom.

Jim Lee for costume design means unnecessary lines and gloves. Big NO on that one.

I'd actually rather they avoid having Johns directly involved. I don't think he really gets big movie universes and possibilities. Somebody like Grant Morrison has far more three-dimensional vision if they want a comicbook consultant. However, the ideal would be the Joss Whedon equivalent, i.e. a talented filmmaker with a keen knowledge (maybe even experience) in the comic world.

Even if MOS is a true blockbuster (a big if at this point), the JL movie won't be able to capitalize on its success and build on what it creates because it will exist in a separate universe. Snyder has given interviews in which he emphatically stated that MOS and JL won't share a common world, nor will Cavill play Superman in both films. Though I'm sure that JL can get a boost from having both Supes and Bats in it, the fact that neither will be played by the actors who played them in the solo films is going to be jarring for the general audience.

Bale's absence won't matter because the Bat-trilogy has ended. But with Cavill starring in MOS next year and possible sequels that will come out in the same time frame as JL, the situation will probably become confusing. It will be like seeing Robert Downey, Jr. play Tony Stark in Iron Man 3 in 2013, only to find the character being played by someone else in The Avengers 2 a couple of years later.

In a way, I can understand WB's position on this. Building a shared universe is a very risky proposition. The failure of one movie in the multi-franchise could undermine all of the others, just as surely as the success of one can help the others. But wasting the opportunities that creating a consistent and interconnected fictional words could bring seems shortsighted to me.

There's only weak rumors that Cavill wouldn't be in the JL movie. I wouldn't be surprised if those rumors partly came from WB not being sure what Superman they would have had rights to. That's been taken care of obviously.

That quote was a long time ago, and his last quote on the subject was a lot different.

This was his quote over a year ago
"It doesn’t. Like what Chris Nolan is doing and what I’m doing with Superman, what they’ll do with Justice League will be it’s own thing with it’s own Batman and […] Superman. We’ll be over here with our movie and they’ll kind of get to do it twice which is kind of cool.”

Then his quote 2 months ago
Asked if he thinks Justice League will happen, Snyder says: "We know Superman is the jewel in the DC crown. We want to get his house in order. And then? Who knows what's possible..."

But Spielberg got enough time to make Tintin. Your logic stumbles a little here.
Let me try to sum things up: Tintin is a comic book character. Spielberg directed a Tintin movie. Check
Justice League consists of comic book characters. Will Spielberg make such a movie?

It's a matter of priorities. If SS want this, he does it. Simple as that.
A very few directors have too little time to do the projects they want. I don't think Spielberg is one of them.

WB's position on the matter, re: MoS and JL, has changed several times over the last year. I'd keep an ear out, but I expect that ultimately, MoS *will* be canon setup for JL, whether Snyder likes it or not.

It almost has to be. Unless they're going to reboot Supes *again* 2 years after MoS, or else not include him in JL.

Spielberg wasnt hired on for Tin Tin. He and Peter Jackson love the character and developed the project. Anyone who does this movie will be a director for hire. Spielberg hasnt been a for hire since around Jaws. He does his own thing.
Case in point: Spielberg loves 007 and wants to direct a 007 movie.

Barbara Brocoli:
Well, early on it was very sweet, because when he was a young filmmaker he approached my father. My dad said, ‘Yeah, kid, ya gotta get some more [films] under your belt. Years later, when he did Schindler’s List, my father wrote to him about how much he loved it. Spielberg then sent a really sweet note saying, ‘Now will you let me direct a Bond movie?’ [Laughs] My father said, ‘Now I can’t afford you!’ That’s the way of the world.

I'm not against a JL movie being in separate continuity.

But the only problem I really have is that sequels would be confusing if somehow they managed to coincide with another DC continuity film :/

While your overall point is correct, that quote is obviously a bunch of Hollywood ********.

If both the producers and Spielberg wanted to make a Bond movie, money would hardly be a deal breaker.

Yeah, if the 1970s was too early for him to direct James Bond and the 1990s was too late, why didn't they tried to work together during the 1980s?

Are these guys legit? I would rather read it than read some review of it.

Looking at their website they seem no more credible than the likes of Cosmic Book News. However, a few years ago, a guy on 4chan was posting excerpts of the film and basically gave us a very short story treatment of it, which we collectively got archived, now, since the server move, the thread is gone from the archive, but depending on what they include in the review, we'll know if they were telling the truth.

Should probably stick to like Batman-News and stuff. Chris is always legit.
