As opposed to that TV show that never materialized, or the movie they won't make? Or all those video games... they never made.

it's clear they didn't put much into that tv show. her uniform looked like ****. you gotta spend money to make money you know.

how well do WW toys, figures, etc. sell. In comparison to the other big 7

What's a TV show have to do with it? Aren't you people saying that Wonder Woman merchandise won't be able to ever move?

Again how come that's been such a lucrative resource for DC for decades then?

My point is, what else is there? Look at Batman. Immensely popular video games, a multi-billion dollar film franchise, award-winning TV series, DVD sales, countless toys... god knows what else.

Wonder Woman has a comic, and apparently some merchandise (not sure what truth be told). That's it.

I gurantee if they make a new JL show (especially spun off YJ) and all the toys/figures, including Wondy, will make bank

Well, I don't know what they were thinking with that travesty. I don't even like the character, and I thought that was doing the franchise a disservice.

i think a lot of it has to do with the choice as well. whoever plays wondy has to have all the goods (the talent, the beauty, the charisma) she's got a lot more to fight through then the men do sadly.

Guy they push her as Batman and Superman's equal not because of equal comic book sales. It wasn't till recently that her book and books starring Bats and Supes were all top sellers. Wonder Woman always gets pushed as their equal because of merchandise sales.

She's one of the best licensed properties for DC along with Batman and Superman. She's one of the most licensed characters ever. Even if they never made a live action movie they're still eating good they make way more money with merchandising than they do with movies.

Luckily for them they're profiting off the comics now a days too and not just the merchandising. So I'll still see the character in animated shows and DTV's and such at least. I'm good; more a comic book fan than superhero movie fan anyway so at this point it does jack for me.

I'll believe in a WW movie when I see a trailer. But it's ridiculous to think that if a good and accepted movie version of WW came along her merchandise wouldn't sell. Since she's already a stable merchandise commodity without a good and successful live action movie right now.

because little girls don't exist and don't like to have crap too?

Stating the obvious... little girls aren't the target demographic for the superhero films' merchandising.

Toy sales, the primary focus, are aimed specifically at boys. Boys wouldn't want to play with Wonder Woman dolls, and WB knows this.

Wonder Woman action figures would be much bigger peg warmers than the Green Lantern movie merchandise.

The stuff marketed towards little girls are things like Justin Bieber, Twillight stuff and Bratz Dolls.

Superheroes is the male domain. That won't change.

That's not entirely accurate. I can only speak from my personal experiences but here goes.

When I was a kid playing with GI Joes, my collection always felt incomplete. Here we had a bunch of male action figures shooting up the place, but where was the damsel in distress that was in all those action movies back in the day? Yeah, young boys think about that stuff to. They will gladly add female action figures to their collection as long as they don't Barbie them up. This is Wonder Woman we are talking about.

So toys wouldn't be a problem. How do you angle it to young girls? I don't know. Don't think it would be crazy difficult, considering I saw some young girls at the Avengers on late showings on Friday night. I think Black Widow was a good draw. They played the perfect blend of a romantic sub plot without alienating the male audience. Thought it could not have been better between her and Hawkeye considering the limited screen time.

Just to add, I switched to Star Wars toys because I had a Princess Leia figure and my re-enacted stories weren't 100% sausage fests.

I guess the slave suit is another exception.

Is this Justice League movie ever gonna happen :(

Probably not. WB doesn't value the property and has allowed a director to dictate terms about it. (Now that I've said it won't happen, watch them greenlight it tomorrow. :cwink:)

WB has plenty of other properties, so why not just take a chance with the JL and make a movie of it. It's not such a big deal. At least they will have tried. I don't care if they're though of as Marvel copycats (would anyone ultimately care as long as we get a decent movie?). At the moment it's like they don't even want to take the risk. Sure, it could flop big time, but it could also be a huge success like The Avengers. They won't know though until they try, and try properly (not half-heartedly).

If Warner/DC wants to use Bats in a movie against Nolans wishes they will. What's he going to do...not do another Bats movie? ;)

Actually, I think the best plan of action for them. Is to do a World's Finest movie with Bale (bats) and Cavill (supes). If that works well then they could go into a JL movie.

So now its Nolan's fault that Green Lantern tanked as well , and WB can't get Wonder Woman or Flash off the ground .... Nolan just didn't want his films to have to worry about tieing into a JL film . The wb should have been doing other films to establish a universe and than once Nolan finished ..... You can get a new batman.

Nolan isn't the reason we have no JLU film ... WB has far bigger issues than the one guy who has given them a good superhero franchise . Singer failed . Campbell failed etcc

i'd prefer batman/superman team up over JL personally

JL imo would cost way more than avengers

Anyone who thinks Wonder Woman is as marketable as Batman really needs to look at the numbers. Batman has multiple animated shows (including one of the most acclaimed animated shows of all time), those continue to make DVD sales, he also has an ongoing multi-billion dollar film franchise which spawns all kinds of merchandise on its own, then there are the video games, some of which have been critically acclaimed and are top sellers. Oh, and the comics.

Wonder Woman isn't in the same league as Batman from a marketing standpoint. Not even a distant second.

Wonder Woman is definitely as marketable as other popular female action characters though. Look at all the popular action films with female leads in the last decade. Look at all the greek action epic films that have been popular in the last decade. WB is really ****ing up not releasing a Wonder Woman film because they are missing a huge opportunity to make some bank and release another credible adaptation of a DC character besides Batman and Superman.

But I honestly think that with The Avengers being so successful already... the next DC project we're gonna hear about from WB is going to be Justice League. And as I've said before, instead of taking the approach that Marvel did (solo films first and then the team up movie) we are going to get JL first and then spin-off characters for all the characters (Wonder Woman, Green Lantern reboot/or sequel, Flash).

Or WB will just make a Man of Steel trilogy over the next eight years, along side the rebooted Batman and leave it at that.

Considering all of the other films WB, as a studio, have in the pipeline, it's not mandatory that they do a shared universe just because Marvel did it.

If anything, the only bankable shared universe they could really do is just Superman and Batman together. The others? I have no clue about.

Kinda OT: Who was in here talking about Marvel having their heroes have their masks taken off in their films? I think it was Artisean.

Even though I loved the film, the way they forced off Cap's mask was so "clunky" and unnecessary

Okay, have to throw in my two cents here, I've gone to dozens of stores where I find wonder woman merchandise. A target they had notebooks, folders, and other stuff like that. I came back the next week and they were all gone. They also sell tons of shirts and wonder woman clothes. And just this past week, I was at work looking at a coke bottle when I saw dc comics on the back, I turned it over and there's a small picture of wonder woman, they were selling coke with a WW picture. I can take a pic tomorrow if you don't believe me. At the movies they were also selling wonder woman, batman and superman cups. They sell wonder woman products ALL the time maybe not action figures but def merchandise. And that's without movies and video games. Everyone knows who she is and most people like her, again, WITHOUT movies and such. She was the first female superhero after all and one of the first superheroes period. Also, her costume sells like pancakes on Halloween. With a movie, her merchandise would sell even more.

jesus christ. just read avengers has made 700 mill and is on pace to break a billion by this sunday. ****ing incredible. i thought it do very well, but that much this quickly? no way.

Yup, it's insane alright. I knew it would be huge and challenge a billion, but I had no idea it would chew up real estate at this clip. It'll probably end up # 3 on the all time list.

I'm not saying that they're going to do it because they need to keep up with Marvel or for competition. I'm saying now that WB realizes how successful a JL film would be because of The Avengers. Now they know that it would bring in MAJOR cash flow... possibly more than any other film they've ever released.

I mean seriously... The Avengers only had Iron Man, Captain America, and Hulk as far as the big name characters that everybody knows. I guarantee you a lot of people who have gone to see The Avengers have no idea who Thor, Black Widow, or the other guy are and look how successful it's been.

The fact is when you have a team of characters that just look that freakin' cool it's going to be succesful, even if a lot of the characters aren't that popular. People know who Bats, Supes, Wondy, GL, and Flash are so JL already has more for going for it.
