BvS Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 1

I guess the problem with Batman and Superman being in the same universe is its impossible to make Batman look badazz. I mean its not like he's going to kill Zod or anything remotely like that. He didn't even have the balls to kill the Joker.

Firstly, Superman killing Zod was not even portrayed as a "badass" Dirty Harry-type of moment...it was portrayed as a sad, tragic moment where Superman was left with no choice. And second, Bats not killing Joker had nothing to do with Batman not having "the balls". It had to do with Batman not taking it upon himself to be judge, jury, and executioner...he stopped him WITHOUT killing him, because he's smart enough and well-prepared enough to do so. IF Batman had been put in a similar situation as Supes as at the end of MOS, a "no-choice" scenario where a villain was AT THAT VERY MOMENT about to kill an innocent unless Batman killed the villain, Batman would either A: Come up with some ingenious non-lethal way that you or I would never think of...OR...B: he'd do the same thing that Superman did and take the villain out to save an innocent life, but it stil wouldn't be "badass", it would be portrayed as another tragic moment, where Batman had no choice.

Batman has infinite ways to prove himself Badass without killing .

Exactly!

I could see 85% of the movie Bruce is acting more as a behind the scenes detective helping Superman, then at the end he suits up to help Superman with some big conflict.

No way, the two heroes will definitely be at odds for at least half the movie, with Batman possibly being manipulated by Lex into helping him take down the "dangerous alien". After all, the movie is currently called Batman VS Superman, and they used that 'hands around your throat" line from Dark Knight Returns to revealthe project at comic-con.

I no longer think Cranston will be Luthor. Id dig it but since cosmicbook started this ****, it's probably false. Im thinking Lex will be Affleck's age, maybe mid 40s. I don't think it's Mark Strong either.

Ill say Affleck chooses Cranston to be Gordon once the solo movie hits.

Lex Luthor will be anyone from Michael C Hall to Matthew McConaughay to Leo Dicaprio to Brad Pitt to Matt Damon (hehe).

Josh Brolin or even Ryan Gosling may get the spot too, since these things happen sometimes when 2 people WB want for the good guy role don't pan out, then they're cast as the other villain.

Remember what Snyder said about Lex 2 months ago. He'll be casting a big name actor on the level of Russell Crowe/Kevin Costner/Amy Adams and he'll be a multi billionaire version of Brad Pitt. So he'll be a handsome man to the people. Is it actually Brad Pitt? I doubt it. But im thinking Gosling, Dicaprio, Damon, McConaughay are the 4 that have the best chance at this. Leo is taking a break and so is Gosling but Ryan is probably returning to acting before him, so maybe.

I just have a hard time thinking of Lex with an accent. Whether that's McConaughay or Pitt, I just don't hear that voice for Lex.

Now, could that change? Yeah, if WB or Affleck forces Cranston on Lex then Zack's wish of a dream Luthor goes out the window. But ill say Bryan doesn't get cast.

Interesting theory. Wasn't it said too that Snyder was looking for a Richard Branson-type too? Branson is 63 right now but tries to keep his youthful bleach blonde locks and spirit going so maybe that's what Cranston would be, but yeah... Cranston is my number one pick for Gordon, and it'd be a shame for him to have that chance to play him in live-action versus voicing him. His narration was beautiful in "Year One." Even Katee Sackhoff as Essen was great.

You need a guy who would be a mad around town, handsome, charming and debonair, someone who could run for public office if given the chance, a real people person until he is exposed for the crook that he is.

Well, if that one report is true, Gosling doesn't do sequels so he won't be Lex. But someone like DiCaprio might be a possibility.

The thing is cranston would look almost exactly like walter white. It would be huge typecasting for him especially seeing as cranston isn't even bald in real life.

He's an amazing actor but i could see even him tuning it down due to it being too similar a role to the one he's just leaving?

It's really hard to imagine Cruise successfully playing a genius. Or a menacing character. Freaking Matt Lauer kicked his ass without even taking a deep breath.

Wait.

So all this time...we've been thinking Cranston was going to be Lex...Because of a CBN story? :lmao: :funny:

You know who strikes me as a cross between Richard Branson and Brad Pitt?

Karl Urban. If you didn't get him for Batman, why not Lex?

This isn't even a hypothetical. The answer is B according to Goyer's take on the character so far. Yes, Batman did not kill the Joker in TDK, but Harvey put him in the same position that Zod put Superman, and we all know what happened there...

WB are going for the 1 billion movie. haha so..........NO.

i would like a movie like you wrotte. but no way to make 1 billion.

Honestly, the biggest support for this Cranston rumor is that neither WB or Cranston have denied it yet.

Perhaps they think CBN doesn't warrant the effort of a denial.

Whoopdie doo. Other movie pundits have already said this and no one has listened.

Oh, yeah! Well, listen to this!

Damon has just joined Nolan's Interstellar. You know what that means, right?!

That he won't be Lex Luthor because he'll be filming Interstellar?

Ok and Phoenix has done 2 movies with Amy Adams. Quite a convincing Lex

yeah, gosling turned down batman. i couldn't believe that ****.

Yeah, I wish he hadn't either; he was one of my top picks for the role. But you know, acting is a craft and Gosling has been choosy with his projects. I would imagine stepping into the role of Batman isn't appealing for a lot of actors because so many people have taken on the role before and it's hard to try and take it in a new direction. And even if you can, there's no guarantee that people will like it.

Nolan isn't that much connected as he once was to this franchise now. That tale of him suggesting Bentley for Batman was pure BS....CBN again?

But it's WB that might put Damon in spotlight for the role.
